OMG wrong sub forum oh gawd that's so embarrassing, please move the thread. Dear god.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello community,

I started meshing, wanted to create a glamorous dress (cause their aren't enough out yet kek) and yea while thinking about making it more complex I suddenly realised: the skirt won't MOVE. So I stopped immediately and started screaming hysterically (cause I don't know how to add physics, captain obvious.

So my questions is, who is willing to help me (eh I know rude rude) and to teach me something. Or how do I get a cheap 3ds max version? (thanks to CPU, I have acess to a  student version now. Yay)

I srsly want to learn this, so I won't give up.I know(technically) how to weight/skin the mesh, how to do the morph etc. But I haven't gotten into this physic thing yet and I see no way around 3ds max, I'm a poor student so I'm kinda distracted and searching for help.

I don't have 3ds max yet,I know it's required (I already read the tutorials here on this site). I have to buy it or something, I know, but I don't know if I can afford it yet. Ugh.

Have mercy guys :-0

(The ugly thing is in the attchment... Uahh)

You don't actually need 3ds max for meshes but it's much more simpler with it. That's the sole reason why I haven't bothered to get any models into skyrim from blender as it'd require so much more work. Not sure if you can do anything Havok related in blender but what you can do is add HDT physics. There was a guide how-to somewhere but can't find it atm. :-/

As you are a student you can get a free student license for 3ds max as well, so there's that. http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/3ds-max  -CPU beat me to it.

I'm afraid I can't help much with rigging or weighting as I have only tried it once. But I'm sure others will pitch in!

And that mesh ain't that bad really. :P

You can hit edit on your post and change the directory yourself without the need of waiting for a mod to see your thread and move that is if it gets seen.

Not sure for skirts as I haven't used it much on them but I use the mesh rigger by Gerra6 to add ninodes from one mesh to another. I use it all the time to add boob butt and belly nodes to bodies and outfits. All you need is a template body that has the nodes that you want to add and use it as the template body.

YES thank you so much. I just made an account there yea. Ehh, are the nif and havok plugins compatible with all versions, even the newer ones? I can only choose betwenn 2014, 2015 or 2016. It doesn't even matter that I'm not studying art or something similar, I'm studying law and still get acess. Lol. #teamautodesk

EDIT (I saw you guys too late)

@Tepi: Oh I thought the havok physics are only for 3ds max? But I just started modding 1 day ago, so basically I'm a noob.

@myuhinny: I already tried but I couldn't find an option to change the section. Damn. Help.

So I would only need a similar mesh with front and back "tail" centered and copy everything?

Yes, Havok plugin (afaik) is only for 3ds max. But HDT is a different system. http://www.loverslab.com/forum/52-hdt-physics-extension/

And you don't need a plugin to make a mesh use HDT. Just bones set up correctly and an .xml file linked to the .nif.

That aside, if you can get the 3ds max, it will be much easier for a "noob" to get stuff into game.

For files you go to your profile click files then hit edit might not have a edit option for threads.

Just checked you can change a thread category from a file page you don't have that option for threads. I thought there was a option before.

I hope so bro :-P

So I can make the dress "moving" with HDT or Havok? (Very noobish, I can smell the noob). But to set up the bones , I need havoks tools or nah ( 2 custom ones, one for the front and one for the back?!)? I already understood, that linking a xml file to the nif gives the correct TBBP/BBP bounce (HDT ?) thing to the body (with correct weights).

Dear lord, this is my second day "modding" Skyrim and I'm already fucked. Lol.

Pls forgive the noobness.

No you don't need havok tools to set up bones. I'm not quite sure if you can just extrude the bones from skeleton root (or from some bone node that nearby) or if it's enough to just add bones without them being attached to the skeleton root itself. As I said, not a pro here either. :P But you need more that 2 bones for sure. More like 4+ per side.

If you just add one bone to each, nothing moves.

2 bones and it'd move but be rather rigid, like a hinge.

etc.

About linking the .xml. Yes, and no. T/BBP is not physics driven but animated. HDT is.

Here you have HDT enabled cloaks which you can download. Open files in nifskope/notepad and try to figure out how things are stitched together. Also you'll get an idea how the bones are done. It will be pretty much the same in your dress. Except the fact that you'll need to make a new .xml file for it but that should quite easy with the aid of JFF, editor that can be found on the HDT subforum.

Thank you very much for the information and thx for the link, I'll try to learn from these files :-) I gonna check out the JFF tool. Wow so much new information, my brain is burning uhhh.

Draconic Bloodline has HDT skirts might want to look at those.

Yes sir yes I will. Yeaa.

Another problem occured: while running the Mesh Rigger tool to set up the weights, it creates no nifs in the output location. And it keeps saying rotation matrix error. Wtf.

So I just added the weights in 3ds Max.

EDIT:

I went in game today to test another simple mesh, just for fun and ... yes, I'm sure it has something to do with the nif setup.

Is someone willing to take a short look on the nifs?

I also added an alpha property, maybe that's the problem??!

EDIT: Now the body mesh is visible but not the cloth. YAY. I'm dying.

From the looks of your screenshot, the body replacer's textures are affected and not just your mesh. I'll just jot down important guidelines, since I can't view your nifs atm. :)

After successfully exporting from 3Ds Max, this is what you should usually do to your nifs:

1.) For every mesh present, go to the NiTriShapeData, and make sure "Vertex Normals" are YES. and "Has Normals" are NO

2.) Remove Branches of BSLightingShaderProperty present in your nif file. Since the exporting screws this up.

3.) Open a vanilla nif file and Copy Branch its BSLightingShaderProperty,

4.) Once that's done go to your exported nif file and per every mesh, go to its NiTriShape, and look for its BS Properties under the Block Details.

5.) Expand the BS Properties and Paste Branch on the 1st property.

6.) OPTIONAL: If you're mesh has alpha textures, apply NiAlphaProperty, but its best you copy it from a vanilla nif.

7.) Select your mesh(es) on the viewport, and rightclick, go to mesh, and select face normals.

Okay thanks, I tried to follow your instructions  but I can't open more than one file at the same time in Nifskope (newest version)???! Not even by clicking the desktop icon multiple times. I'm afraid my system (Win 7) won't let me open more than one instance. Nice. So I can't copy properties, oh help :-( Is there a trick behind?

EDIT:

(1) I changed the Normals tag to no and did the Mesh->face Normals - thing

(2) I changed the shader type to default for the clothes, skin tint for the body

(3) I changed the clamp mode to wrap

(4) I checked the texture paths (I had the full path in there lol)

(5) I checked the normals direction in 3ds max. Just to make sure nothing is messed up here.

...but the cloth is still invisible. The body is visible.

Dear God.

Darth to get around that one window problem go into menu and select open new window. It's a PIA but better than not being able to work it.

AHHHHH thank you @rhody01, your trick saved me :-0

I finally fixed the shader problem now. There is just another 'thing' I have to fix: the keep the poly K minimal, the dress mesh is a simple one.side mesh. I have to get the double-sided mat for Nifskope working...

I added the NiStencilProperty, but it messes up the nifs...

(1) the dress with proper shaders

(2) yea... I need double-sided material :-(

(3) with NiStencilProperty. A mess.

Thx for all the support yet, you guys saved me :-)
