ShadowMaster41 Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 But I need some help with setting up Sexlabs and all the various components into my Skyrim from Steam. I cannot find the directory file and Id rather not mess anything up. Any help would be appreciated
NamelessRogue Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Do Not install anything into your steam folder (even the cleaned masters). download mod organizer install it into for example C:/Games/Mod Organizer you can go to youtube to watch videos on how to install setup and use mod organizer (either gopher or dirty weasel productions both have good tutorials). I also suggest going thro the Step guide for Skyrim as it gives you a cleaner start as long as you follow the instructions (hide files that need to be hidden, put certain plugins into optional so there not used, etc)

Just gotta find it after tending to a 8 year old neice.
myuhinny Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 You can use either NMM (nexus mod manager) or MO (mod organizer) to install your mods. MO will be a lot more work if you have never used a mod manager before as it has a learning curve to use.
NamelessRogue Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 No for the Skyrim Total Enhancement project http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.9.2. and use mod organizer as it is not harder. and is much easier than NMM which i used for years "which asks everytime it overwrites something" mod organizer will overwrite anything in a folder above it unless you hide the file itself. modding games no matter if you do it manually (did many times with morrowind) or with a manager has a learning curve.
Sural Argonus Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I understand the hate for Nexus Mod Manager, but they've done a lot of improvements over the years. It's a lot more functional now. It's simple to use, and even works a lot better for the novice then Mod Organizer or other Mod Managers. Leave those for the more experienced. NMM even tells you when you fucked up and forgot to install a mods requirements now. It tells you which mods are missing, and does a pretty good job at load order sorting.
myuhinny Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Not mine I stopped updating NMM a long time ago back when they broke FNIS I reverted back to a older build and stayed there I don't need all those bells and whistles they kept shoving into it making it harder to find where they placed your mods and things like that.
TheNoize Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Even if you do not use NMM, the Beginner's Guide to Modding Skyrim from Gopher is a good start for modding in general. I highly recommend the OP to watch it:
ShadowMaster41 Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 OKay I admit Im thoroughly lost. I installed NMM, and then the zipfile for Sexlab, where does it go after it's extracted? Again, sorry if I seem too much a newb at this
ShadowMaster41 Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 One question. My skyrim data folder doesnt hace the tools folder, is that needed absolutely?
shane4244 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 One question. My skyrim data folder doesnt hace the tools folder, is that needed absolutely? Tools folder is where FNIS is located. It should be there after your install FNIS which is needed for any SexLab based mod.
Sural Argonus Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I have no problems using NMM. I just drag and drop the files into the NMM window. If it drops them into the UNASSIGNED category, I then move them to the correct category (I created one for Sexlab, or followers, Utilities, etc) and as long as the modder packaged them up with the correct directory structure, they are handled correctly like any other mod handler.BUT, if you insist on installing manually, generally all your Steam games are installed (generally) on your C Drive under Program files I think. I have a custom install. I run an SSD drive as my main drive and my games drive is a 4TB secondary internal SATA. I can't remember the exact default directory, but I think it's Steamapps/Common Files/Skyrim/DataFNIS gives you an option to place a shortcut on the desktop...I HIGHLY suggest taking that suggestion. Tools shows up after FNIS is installed properly.
ShadowMaster41 Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 I have one last question: Is there a way to delete everything and start over fresh from scratch? By delete everything I mean all mods, FNIS, etc?
Sural Argonus Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 If you are manually deleting everything, then you just go into the folders and delete them. Each file that you installed. Worst case scenario is a complete uninstall/reinstall of the game tho.Using the mod managers they take care of it for you.
WaxenFigure Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I have one last question: Is there a way to delete everything and start over fresh from scratch? By delete everything I mean all mods, FNIS, etc? Unwise thing to do. First find the downloads where all the mods you have used are stored and copy them to a safe location. Then you can remove the SKyrim folder and with it will go everything else unless you've installed things to other folders. Then you can use Steam to download a fresh new copy of Skyrim. Come to think of it, if you have enough space to do so just rename the existing Skyrim folder to something else just to be sure you have everything you might want later but can no longer find.

Does that include the generate FNIS or should I delete it and get it from the NMM page?

You should always check to make sure you have the latest versions of your mod before starting another play through but if you can no longer find the mod keeping the older downloads will allow you to continue using the last available version of the mod even if it is remove from the web entirely. As a rule I download all mods by hand to a folder no controlled by the Mod Manager I use and periodically archive that folder to other storage. I could reinstall any version of the Sexlab Framework from its very first release to now if I wanted but that's probably too much for most folk, just keep a copy of the mods you like and keep using while periodically nuking things you downloaded and decided were not what you wanted after all. Also if you haven't yet, switch to using Mod Organizer (MO) so you don't have to wipe the main Skyrim folder completely again. Since MO installs mods to separate folders instead of the main data folder it can keep the root game folders pristine leaving you a clean fallback without waiting the hours it takes to download Skyrim from Steam again.

Nevrrmind, I found Gopher's Youtube video
Sural Argonus Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 It took me several reinstalls of Fallout 3 to figure out how the hell to mod a game before I figured it out. I think I broke the game at least a dozen times. I broke New Vegas at least a half dozen times too. Skyrim I still break. In fact, I think I am due to wipe Skyrim again and start fresh soon. It's starting to act a little flaky.
WaxenFigure Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 For Step by Step instructions, you really can't beat the STEP project. Follow it and you can get a stable modded Skyrim game that also looks a lot better than vanilla and a good base to which you can add the mods you want from here. Downside? It takes hours to set up the first time. http://wiki.step-project.com/Main_Page
