Im using Mod Organizer and sometimes when I install a new mod, my character and sometimes select other NPCS around me become black. If I zoom up on any npc thats black, or my character, they become blocky with little bits of skin color and black mixed together. My Character is a female nord. She is still black with or without armor. Here are my mods  and the order I installed them.

More Info

This is not the first time this happened. This happened a few times before. I would install a new mod, run SKSE through Mod Organizer and when I came into the game, my character and sometimes other select NPCS would be black. This particular time it happened when I installed "No Bethesda Intro". Currently I am in windhelm and the only people that are black are me and all the female NPCS and female guards (Which are from AllFemaleGuards). Whenever this glitch happened, I would uncheck  and or uninstall the last mod I installed before my character became black. This never works. The only solution I could come up with is to delete all installed mods and reinstall them from scratch. This seems to work but I would like to not have spend 15 minutes doing this every time this happens. The glitch happens even when I have all my armor on or absolutely NOTHING on. Although its not everytime I install a new mod this happens, its still kinda often and its starting to really piss me off.

WHOEVER CAN GIVE ME AND WORKING SOLUTION WILL BE SENT 20 EUROS THROUGH PAYPAL OR BITCOIN!!!

That does look a bit like you'd be running out of VRAM. As you are using MO it's quite easy to test, just disable your texture overhaul, Skyrim HD - 2K Textures or whatever it is that you're using. Although as it seems you can see some parts of the textures as those "blocky" thingies it might not be because of VRAM. Other suggestion that comes to mind is to update (or downgrade) your gpu drivers.

I searched forums for people who had similar issues as mine and solutions also had VRAM in it but I have no idea what that is :D

Also if by texture overhaul you meant realvision ENB, I disabled it and nothing happened.

Doing a bit of google searching in the background, will update here if I find anything else, but I did find this post from the Nexus forms. Putting under a spoiler so they take up less room... Also, the first post has a long to another nexus thread that shows the same issue.

Hiya Caliente,

First of all, great mod!

I'm having a bit of a difficulty on the vanilla body version of the mod. It seems that the farther away i am from a female NPC or zoom out of a female character, their skin gets black and pixelated. It seems it might be a problem with shadows, though i'm not sure. After some research, I found that if you increase the amount of the "iBlurDeferredShadowMask" field in the SkyrimPrefs.ini file the problem is solved, but only temporarily. After a few hours the black pixelation returns and i must increase the amount again.

Have you or anyone else come across this problem before and have a permanent fix?

Here is a post someone made in the Nexusforums that shows what the pixelation looks like:
http://www.thenexusf...iangles-closer/

Thanks for your time and keep up the great work!

The response:

@laughingman2:

That is...odd. I will say I've never had that issue (I only use the slim version as well), but then, the texture I use is an edited one, and has a different compression level to what Caliente uses. Looking at that thread, it seems most agree with there being something wrong in the alpha channel. If you have photoshop/gimp, try opening the file and save it as 'DXT1 (no alpha)'? Be sure to back up the textures, though, just in case something, somehow, goes wrong. wink.gif

And the only two follow-up posts:

@Jeir

Thank you for the reply! I made a slight mistake in my post, i'm actually using the vanilla body style as opposed to the slim. It seems Cal is using different textures for the slim body than the vanilla so that might be why you've never come across that problem as well.

As for the file that you're saying to modify, which one(s) are you referring to, the texture files themselves?

Thanks for the time!

@laughingman2:

The file I'm talking about is 'femalebody_1.dds'. Try opening it up, then saving it as DXT1 (no alpha). =)

Silly question, but it looks like a textural issue to me... What happens if you uninstall and reinstall FairSkin on top of everything else?

Nothing

VRAM as in Video Memory. That's the place where the textures are stored for diplaying them in your screen. If it gets full and not all textures are loaded, those will be black. But seeing yours are not completely black it's probably not about that. And no, I didn't mean ENB even tho it does affect VRAM as well. I meant something like http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/607/?

Where exactly can I find that file?

textures/actors/character/female/femalebody_1_msn.dds

assuming its not in a bsa file. youll need the nvidia dds plugin for photoshop.

here is mine. throw it in. or reinstall whatever mod your textures are from. or try a different texture set all together. if the black bug goes away then i was right. if you aren't unp it wont line up right, but all you need to know right now is if im right or not.

if you are using MO: \Mod Organiser\overwrite\textures\actors\character\female

else put it in your data dir same folder structure.

femalebody_1_msn.dds

for me i played quite a while and then for some reason out of the blue it started doing that and not even every time. sometimes i would restart the game and it would be fine. or i would switch armor and it would start fucking up. so i did that and it fixed it.

This is undoubtedly a memory issue.  Happens a lot, actually.  Too many high resolution textures is causing the game to not be able to render some textures.  Happens most often on armors and faces.  Sometimes happens when you install an armor that has too high a resolution, or too many of such armors, or too many hair or face mods with high texture resolutions.  The most common fix is to move to an unoccupied cell, save, and reload the save game (since reloading causes the game to essentially flush memory).  When that doesn't work, look for versions of your mods with lower texture resolutions, or remove some extra armours or remove some hair mods or remove your ENB, or if you have a high texture body mod, get a lower texture body mod, etc.  Another solution is to get a video card with more video RAM, or to play around with the memory settings and your ENB (look for those handy S.T.E.P. guides).  Slowly disabling mods (at least those that impact textures), one at a time, can help narrow down what is throwing your system over the edge.  Especially textures that affects multiple NPCs (as opposed to just the player).

The "Fix" that one person gave for re-saving a body texture (using something like Gimp), almost certainly results in a lower-resolution texture for that body, which is another option, but time consuming, and may not work if the body isn't the high texture causing the problem.  But I've done that with great success on certain armors that I really liked.  Just re-saved them with greater compression, and thus a smaller file size.

One way to see what might be the culprit is to go traipsing through your textures folder Skyrim//Data/textures/ and all of its subfolders), looking for files that are particularly big.  For example, a "standard" armor size is maybe 6MB.  If you have an armor that is like 60MB, that might be a problem for you.  A standard body is only about 16MB.  But a high resolution CBBE can be 65MB or more.  You could even have a follower with a custom body that has a super high texture.  Lots of possibilities.

what, what?  Just saying that's why it worked.  Compare the before save file size and the after save file size, and I bet the after is a lot smaller, because of higher compression and lower resolution, unless you were really careful to make sure that wouldn't happen.

As the others have pointed out, it could be several things:

If the black texture is random body or armor:

- Not enough VRAM

If the black texture always the same body or armor:

- Not enough VRAM (the texture for the body/armor is too large)

- Corrupt texture file (diffuse, normal, specular etc.)

- A problem with mipmaps in the texture.

Download GPU-Z and keep it running in the background while playing the game. It should tell you about the maximum available VRAM and the maximum VRAM usage. If the max usage hits the physical limit then remove some of your large texture mods or optimize them (reduce their resolution, make them smaller in size).

If there's a problem with a specific texture, you may open it with GIMP or Photoshop and save it again properly, regenerating its mipmaps.

This happened to me as soon as enabled texture compression in my enblocal.ini , never happened again after i disabled it.

If you have ENB , then open up your enblocal.ini and set

EnableCompression=false

If you don't have enboost , then get it , it'll help manage your RAM and VRAM

Lol im not sure what happened but when I uninstalled sporty sexy sweat, the problem left and never came back. Thanks anyways for anyone who tried to help :D
