How to align body for porting

Hi I'm currently trying to convert oblivion cloth to skyrim. (3dsmax)

From what I can piece together from bits and pieces heres what I think I should be doing

1.adjust the mesh to fit the body

2. rig using skin wrap and/or skin envelope

3.nifskope tweaks

I did a couple of easy ones already and I think it looked ok in skyrim, but when I comes to harder ones I find it difficult to do because I can't even align the skyrim body with the oblivion cloth, skyrim body has a "normal" stand (arms by the waist) to it while oblivion cloths have the "cross" shape like this (arms straight out to the side)

[head]

(left arm)-------------(right arm)

|body|

| |

|L leg| |R leg|

How can I move them around to align it without deforming it?

Thanks!

see I tried using that but not sure how to import it, I followed the instructions but I'm pretty sure he said it wrong because there were some discepancies as to whether the skin data should be imported with the cloth mesh...

Posted

1. Import skyrim skeleton and/or female body with skeleton.

2. Import oblivion to skyrim skeleton,

3. Import oblivion armor without importing its skeleton.

HOLY SHIT IT WORKS THANKS

EDIT:

i'm confused, doing that ports the oblivion skin data over, what do I do with that?

in the video he posted his model didn't have any skin data but it was still in the right pose :/

NVM I think I just learned what collapse all is for

Forgot. You can't edit it as it is.

4. copy skin data from skyrim body to all oblivion armor parts.

5. Export all objects to nif.

6. Clear scene.

7. Import the nif you've just created.

8. Remove skin data and adjust mesh as necessary.

Hmm I made mesh edits but the skin data is pretty ****ty, so far all i know is making skin data from skin wrap but I'm getting pretty crazy results, can anyone provide a good link or advice on skinning with skin modifier?

Don't know a whole lot about weight painting. And I can only brush away irregular weighting from meshes that cause stretching to the spine or breasts. I couldn't get paint blending to work the way I wanted it too either.

To tired to write the guide right now.

1. Import all necessary Skyrim body parts with import skeleton selected.

2.Import Oblivion to Skyrim skeleton nif with import skeleton selected.

3.Import all oblivion armor parts without import skeleton selected.

It should conform to Skyrim body. I made Skyrim body see through so you can see it better.

4. Click modify icon in upper right.

5. Click on on the skyrim body (CHSBHC_1_fullwieght_NEW or whatever it is called). Click on the skin tab. Right click and select copy

6. Click on an oblivion armor mesh (leggings in my case). Click on its skin tab. Right click and choose paste.

There should be two skin tabs. Repeat for all oblivion armor meshes.

7.Select all parts.

8.Export as nif to where ever your textures are located. Do this so you can re-import quickly without worrying about Max not finding the textures.

9.Clear scene with new all. Save if you think you need to.

10. Import the nif you've just created.

11. Oblivion meshes have only kept Skyrim's skin data. Remove it from each part now so you adjust them to fit new body.

12. Conform each part around the new body. Reskin each oblivion mesh by copying/skinwrapping. Add BSDMemberSkin and smooth modifiers.

Export.

How to do this in blender:

Go to start menu> control panel

Uninstall programs > blender> ok> finish

Download 3ds Max Studio

Install Max Studio

Follow the above tutorial

Any questions? =D

Seriously tho.. If you must use blender, go to nexus forums. Search for oblivion skeleton in skyrim pose. There's a blender package. When you import your armor be sure not to import the skeleton with it. Set the blend skeleton as the parent and follow the bone weight/skin guide. I'm way too tired to give a how-to when there's a million tut's available for blender as it is. Max is a LOT faster tho, trust me.

I used to use blender like you.. Then I took an arrow in the knee.

;)

Edit: nexus mods

Yes. I'll bite. Why would you go through that hassle when Blender already has a vastly superior alternative, posted exclusively at this very site.

No. Just no. That meme died a year ago. No memecromancy.  But then, I suppose you've already mastered threadcromancy, so why not spread your wings a bit.

Since this thread has already be necroed, here are some more complete instructions for anyone wondering how to accomplish this in Blender.

Just grab Pose Converter

So, if you want to convert an Oblivion posed mesh to Skyrim

1. import that body as you normally would

2. Delete the partial armature that came with the mesh

3. Select the mesh and import an Oblivion skeleton.nif.  Ensure that 'import skeleton only and parent selected' is enabled.

4. Select the skeleton and run pose converter.

5. Select 'Oblivion to Skyrim pose'

6. Select the mesh

7. click 'Make Real' and then 'Apply' under the modifiers tab in the editing pane of the buttons window

8. Delete the skeleton.

9. Import the skyrim body that you will use for your base boneweighting

10. Use the replacement boneweight copy scrypt to add Skyrim weightpainting

11. If desired, use the automated BB weightpainter to add BB weightpainting

12. if you want to convert the armor to use a Skyrim body type, generate a re-usable conversion lattice using the Clothing Bodytype Converter

From here, any of the Skyrim for Blender tutorials should get you what you need

This thread may have died.. But believe me, the subject hasn't. Over the past week alone I've seen this a hundred times in tons of threads on all the networks. If this came up in my google results, then it's doing that for everyone. My tip wasn't just aimed to the person who asked, but rather everyone still wondering who wanders into this particular thread as I did. And even when an obvious solution gets posted, you still see the, "oh no what did I do wrong? Why can't I do this?". So yes, until a thread gets locked, I'll keep helping the sad little bumpers out there. :/

Are you...responding to me?

Or did you accidentally post this response to the wrong person?

Relax, take a deep breath (or several), reread your post, reread my posts, and ask youself a question. Is this really how you want to present yourself to the world?

This sort of drama is unnecessary and it has no place here.

*Edit*

This response refers to a post that has since been sent to a very nice farm in the country.

Umm.. What are you talking about? See.. I made a joke, then a serious post for the bumpers who'd eventually see this topic. And resurrect it anyway. But, no. You disregarded the fact I had already mentioned "pose converter", and said the exact same thing during a sad effort to "troll" me without breaking the "rules". Well, that's quite distasteful, but if snitching to your moderator friends is how you handle your business whatever. I was here for the same reason as everyone else. To help, and be helped. That's classic tho.. "abusive" language. Sure.

And while I'm here before you get me "banned", as if this place is my life.. I feel like I should point out the irony in you flaming a meme while using "cromancy" multiple times in the same breath. Dude, that died out "200 years ago during the oblivion crisis", long before people started taking arrows in the knee.

Just some advice.....

Drop the subject and move along before you get yourself in more trouble. It not wise arguing about something that after you just got a warning from a moderator. For someone who has only just registered to this site your not having a very good start to your time here.

Take my advice and move on before you get even more warning points.

Thank you, and I now have. I only responded due to being warned multiple times for the same incident when nothing I said was "abusive". I know the rules are strict, just didn't know THAT strict. Lol.. In my book we were just playing I thought. Guess not. But, I see how it's harder to interpret joking in black and white. I'll avoid further sarcasm, and apologies to anyone I've offended in some way.

Edit: I'm on mobile and apparently accidentally clicked a check mark which now shows an x.. Not sure about features on mobile, so sorry in advance for whatever that button does if it's bad. =s
