Griningjoker666 Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I can find no answer to this problem i manual installed all the stuff needed for this mod and it just keeps this on the top of the screen and never leaves any help would be greatly appreciated
gregathit Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 You need to put the loverslight.ini file at the following location: Oblivion\data\ini\ Unless it is at that location, the mod can't find it.
prinyo Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 You need to put the loverslight.ini file at the following location: Oblivion\data\ini\ Unless it is at that location, the mod can't find it. This answer would have been even remotely helpful if actually said where can I find the ini file. It is a shame that people who pretend to be helpful are simply toying with the ones that need help. Shame... So WHERE DO I GET THIS FILE FROM?
Baron Of Hell Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 You need to put the loverslight.ini file at the following location: Oblivion\data\ini\ Unless it is at that location, the mod can't find it. This answer would have been even remotely helpful if actually said where can I find the ini file. It is a shame that people who pretend to be helpful are simply toying with the ones that need help. Shame... So WHERE DO I GET THIS FILE FROM? Wow that is pretty off base. The original poster of the question was getting the message "Unable to locate or read loverslight.ini". This does not mean the poster wasn't able to locate the file. The fact that he did a manual install would make anyone believe he knows where the file is but he doesn't know where to put it. To find the file use the search option in file explorer. You know in the little box that says search in the upper right corner. I'm on windows 10 so if you are using something else it might be in a different location but you should be able to find it or a similar option.
fejeena Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 ?? Griningjoker666 downloaded the Mod, so he have the ini. He asked where he can find the installed file, or where you have to install it. So the answer is correct ! ! ! If a Lovers Mod has a ini it is in the download folder. Not all Mods have ini files! The Lovers Light ini is in the "LAPF Supplemental Plugin Pack 1.7z" http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/355-lovers-supplemental-plugin-pack/Unpack the file, and in the "ini" folder you find the "LoversLight.ini" Next time a little friendlier, please.
prinyo Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 "The fact that he did a manual install would make anyone believe he knows where the file is but he doesn't know where to put it." I can appreciate that an assumption like that makes the answer so pointless. The assumption is obviously wrong. The OP says "I installed the all-the-things manually and now it shows an error all the time on my screen." The wording of the OP and the fact that it is the first post of the user means that it is more likely that they did not bother to install a mod manager so they performed a manual install. The OP says - I installed "all the stuff" and now I get a permanent message on my screen. Nothing more. Also the point of those forums is to provide some kind of references and "general" support. Even if the OP was from an user that knew what they were doing there will be many others with the same problem that will find this thread. One of those others is me at the moment an I simply reacted to how unhelpful the answer was. (I'm using NMM but I get the same persistent message.) "To find the file use the search option in file explorer. You know in the little box that says search in the upper right corner. I'm on windows 10 so if you are using something else it might be in a different location but you should be able to find it or a similar option." I blame Microsoft, they obviously gave me a very stupid Windows :-) (both NMM and the game are on this drive) "?? Griningjoker666 downloaded the Mod, so he have the ini. He asked where he can find the installed file, or where you have to install it.So the answer is correct ! ! !" The answer is not correct because 'the Mod' does not exist as such from the user's point of view. I don't have a mod called "Lovers Light", Google doesn't know where to find this ini (https://www.google.nl/search?num=30&q=LoversLight.ini&oq=LoversLight.ini), Windows did not find it and this thread is not attached to a specific mod. I spent quite some time trying to find it and could not. I ended up completely reinstalling Oblivion via Steam and install all the mods I have again, because while the missing ini file is probably not a serious problem, the persistent error message written in big letters on the screen is extremely obtrusive. "The Lovers Light ini is in the "LAPF Supplemental Plugin Pack 1.7z"" Thanks! This was really helpful "Next time a little friendlier, please." I don't see anything unfriendly in my post. I was simply expressing my disappointment in how unhelpful the help was. Misinterpreting any negative feedback as a personal attack doesn't help anyone. Thanks again for your help!
gregathit Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Let's see......you necro post in a 5 month old support thread and claim I was being vague and unhelpful...........and yet I solved the posters issue. Methinks you need to pull your head out of your ass. You have no ground to stand on claiming my post was unhelpful when your was totally pointless. Pot calling the kettle black and all........ya know. Oh and NO. The point of this section of the forum isn't to provide general help. It is to provide SPECIFIC help for specific questions. Which is what I did. If you have trouble with something, then ask for help and quit making your assumptions. Kind of a shame that I've spent the last several years releasing mods, updating mods, helping folks trouble shoot, and this is the kind of thanks I get. What have you done????

Kind of a shame that I've spent the last several years releasing mods, updating mods, helping folks trouble shoot, and this is the kind of thanks I get. What have you done???? I apologize if my post made you feel personally offended! It was not meant this way, but when I read it now - a day later, I can appreciate it sounds aggressive. This post should help understand why I posted it the way I did. I wrote it while reinstalling Oblivion and getting ready to try to install all the mods from scratch again. All because I couldn't find the ini file as described in my previous post. The forums, been forums, are general support by default in the mind of most people. Many times when a user asks a question another user will tell them to search the forum for a solution. Most users understand forums as a place for general reference and help. Even if there is a "local rule" that states otherwise. Also the forum is a public space, indexed by search engines, so different users with different backgrounds and level of understanding will find a post that discusses the problem they have. In my case Google showed me two relevant results for the ini file, both posts in LL. One of them has no answer, the other one is this one. In this case the problem comes from the fact that Lovers LIght is not a standalone mod but is a part of a pack. This makes it hard to find for an inexperienced user like me. If it was Skyrim where I have more experience in what is what I would have been able to debug it myself. Here I failed. The OP poster has only one post ever so there is no way of knowing if the answer was helpful for them or not. We are both assuming. You assume the answer helped them, I assume it did not because the fact that this is the first post the user ever made here and the way the question was worded means that the user is far from been able to understand the answer. (The way I understand OP is that someone wanted to have sex ingame as quick as possible and did not want to "bother" with mod organizers and other "mumbo jumbo") If we don't want to assume anything - the OP says that after they installed "all the things" now they get an error. Nothing more. The correct way to address this, without assuming anything, was "take the file from here and put it there". The omission of the first part is what makes the answer unhelpful. The problem that I reacted to is that answers like this make users feel stupid and discourages them and other "noobs" (like me) from asking any other questions. I'm starting to "seriously" play Oblivion for the first time ever and it is safe to assume I'll face other problems in the near future. I can appreciate the fact that different modding communities have their own ways of dealing with newcomers and people asking questions. The general "who do you think you are"/"what (good) have you ever done" attack came way too early so I assume it will be best if I try to deal with the problems myself and never ask or post anything anymore. I'm sorry if I incidentally stepped on someone's toes while trying to find my way in this unknown for me territory. It will never happen again. P.S. I think it is important to understand that there is a glass wall between the novice user and the mods (in terms of the knowledge required to use the mods). And the user needs to put some effort into navigating around this glass wall. So when they ask a question here they not only expect the answer to contain enough information to help them navigate around the problem in technical terms, they are also relying on (hoping to get) a psychological assurance that everything is alright and what they do is correct. Answers like this (the answer to OP) do the opposite - they say : "see this glass wall, it is here for a reason - to keep noobs like you away". And my reaction was "ok, I'm stupid and I annoy you, I'm sorry to bother you with my existence, but would you please please tell me where the file is without making me feel even more stupid than I already do". And then your reply told me that while we both make assumptions yours are always right and mine are always wrong because I'm a worthless "nobody". So be it.
fejeena Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 But Griningjoker666 had the Mod ! He got a error message in game. Only if you have the Lovers Light esp installed you get the message "missing ini" if ini is not installed or in wrong folder. He ask where is the ini ! Not where is the Mod ! That's why he post in the technical support section and not in "What Mod is this?" thread. So gregathits answer was 100% correct and contained all the info Griningjoker666 needed. ( Why should he post a download Link if Griningjoker666 has the Mod ? ? ? ) Your first post sound as if you are looking for the ini, not the Mod ! "This answer would have been even remotely helpful if actually said where can I find the ini file." "So WHERE DO I GET THIS FILE FROM?" No word about that you do not have the Mod. I only posted the Link because I thought that you may have downloaded an (very)old version without ini or a corrupted file ( no ini after unpacking ). So you simply could have asked "Where is the Lovers Light download ? " Just ask. We are not hostile to newcomers. Just a little torture, waterboarding, branding irons with the LL Logo, thumbscrews, .... and hidden downloads. EDIT: If you play Oblivion for the first time read my yellow Link below. Do not install the game in C:\program files... Do not use LOOT for Mod sorting! use BOSS ! ! Sort Lovers Mods manually ! Unpack Mods before installing ( delete skeletons in armor-clothes Mods, so you don't overwrite the LAPF skeleton ) Do not use the Nexus Modmanager ! use Oblivion Modmanager or TES Modmanager. clean your Mods ! .... ....

Just a little torture, waterboarding, branding irons with the LL Logo, thumbscrews, .... and hidden downloads. What makes the specific case harder is that "the Mod" that you refer to doesn't exist from the point of view of the user. I have about 10 LAPF based mods and none of them is "Lovers Light". When I installed them some time ago I would have known which mod it is as I took care to install them one by one and to play for some time between installs to be sure that everything is OK. But then the NMM 0.61 update came and reinstalled all the mods. And the message appeared. I didn't react to it imediately as I was playing other games. Now I decided to do a serious Oblivion run and I had to find a way to fix it. The problem is that out of all mods there is none called Lovers Light. So this ini is obviously a part of another mod. But which one? At that point I didn't realize that Lovers Light is actuqally a merged mod. The name of the ini makes it sound like a helper file that is simply a part of one of the mods. Only after your reply pointed me to the pack I realized that such mod exists. After the Windows search produces no results I turned to Google and it sent me here. The OP has exactly the problem I have - I installed "all the things" and now I get this error. You can't expect an user with 1 post to know that there is a thread "which mod is that" and to post the question there. The user sees an error on their screen and asks in the technical support subforum how to fix it. What made me react more emotionally than I should have is the fact that here it is the same question that I have but the answer does not help. So now I need to ask again and wait if somebody will reply and in a way that would help. I actually did not expect an answer at all. If the original answer was full I would have simply fixed my problem. Me and other noobs are used to this kind of answers and usually ignore them in order to not get involved into conflicts. The problem this time was that there was no other way to find the information I needed. The end result from all this for me was that I gave up and downloaded FO4 to play instead. So now Oblivion will wait some more and there will be a day where I'll spend a full day in patiently installing mods one by one again I also have big yellow squares with exclamation marks in them, but at this point I'm too afraid to ask about that. The complete patient reinstall is probably the best solution. Added: I'll read it. Thanks!
gregathit Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 As Fejeena stated, we are not hostile to new comers, quite the opposite. Now we may prod them to read the pinned threads when it is obvious the answer is there, but there are quite a few folks that take a very active role in trying to help people learn how to fix the individual problem as well as troubleshoot in general.....the old feed them AND teach them to fish at the same time. If you have trouble, then ask. We only bite when we are bitten first. The proof of this is the thousands of posts spread over 67 pages of threads. Take the time to read a few and you will realize that your accusations are not only groundless, but they are a grave insult to not just me, but the dozens of other members who do their best to aid folks. Quite a feat considering how old Oblivion is don't you think. Now as to the history to put this to bed: Lovers Light has never been a stand alone mod. It used to belong to what is now an outdated pack called lovers minor mod pack: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/20-outdated-lovers-minor-mod-pack/ Since most of the plugins in that mod are outdated and it confused users to tell them "install this but not that", I put in into a new pack called lovers supplemental plugin pack: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/21242-lovers-supplemental-plugin-pack/ All needed files are included in both packs. Both packs require manual installation, either that or they require you to build your own omod or bash file. Thus to those who use mod managers, they are a not a normal installation. NMM can't seem to find its own ass with ini files (and has other serious issues with oblivion), which is why we recommend oblivion users run away from it screaming. This is posted in many of the pinned threads and hard to miss. Thus, when the user had the error, all they needed to know was that the ini file was not properly installed to the oblivion\ini folder and BOOM the annoying error message is gone. Incidentally, Lovers light isn't critical to running the LAPF. It just provides light so you can see your character (or NPC's) shagging in dark places. Finally, there are two txt files inside the lovers supplemental plugin pack. One gives a description of the files and one tells you how to install it. Obviously reading them would have solved your question. And by the way, a google search with "lovers lab" and "lovers light" pulls up the supplemental pack right at the top of the list. Now, hopefully you can see why I responded to what was clearly a hostile post the way I did. Let's put this behind us and move on. Ask your questions, but leave the barbs out and you will get all the help you could want. PS: Your big yellow squares are more than likely due to not archive invalidating, that or when you used NMM to install something, the install went sideways on you and didn't install the meshes to the correct location. If you are going to use NMM, please don't use it for Oblivion, it will just make your life hell.
prinyo Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 My point is quite simple: There is no way for the user to connect "loverslight.ini" with the pack. And the name of the ini file sounds quite general, in fact I didn't associate it with "visible light", but with "basic" (as opposite to "extended"). An ini file with such a name could be part of any Lovers' based mod, providing options for some basic install or something. But even in the context of the visible light, an ini file that deals with the lights can also be part of any mod. It sounds quite general and can be part of anything. So I did a Google search for the name of the ini file which is what I always do in this situations. After fejeena posted the link to the pack I immediately did a test Google search for "lovers light" and it was the top result (I do like to learn from my mistakes) . However my 20 years of debugging practice teaches me to never assume that "loverslight.ini" == "lovers light" as a search term or in any other way. Any programmer would understand why not. Have I known that the ini is part of "Lovers Light" (which does not exist as a mod) I would have made the correct search, would have redownloaded the file, read the instructions and remember, that the first time I did install it I also performed some manual actions. And because of those manual actions the mod was working correctly. And then the NMM 0.61 broke it with the forced auto-reinstall of all mods. I would have done this and fixed everything have I known where the file belongs. I never said anything about the mods and the pack themselves. It is thanks to the good documentation that I was able to install everything with no problems the first time. You and the other creative people that make all those amazing mods have my respect and admiration. I apologize again if my first post in the thread has offended you personally. I understand that it sounds out of line and I'm sorry for that. I spent quite some time after that to try to explain (not so successful it seems) why I wrote it and what is the actual problem I faced back then. If someone wants to understand - I have written it all. While all of this was going on I decided to postpone the Oblivion run for some time in the future and deleted the game in order to make space for FO4 on the SSD. So hopefully my next attempt to ask questions, that will be in several months or years, will be more successful than this one :-)
