thekaptainn Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 So I reached that point (again) where I'm going to do a fresh install of Skyrim. My loading screens have been getting longer and it's at the point now where it really disturbs my immersion. Fresh saves start out "better" as in lower load times but still not as quick as they should be, based on past performance checks. Also new saves end up with long loading times within about 10 hours of playtime. So the important part of this topic that I think it's time to trim some mod fat and I am looking for anyone and everyone's opinion on mods that I could remove to increase my performance the most. I've pretty much cut down most of the mods I could live without and ended up with this list but something still has to go. I will appreciate any and all advice in regards to this subject including advice on increasing my performance without removing mods. Ok its like this that load order is totally borked it would never make it further than 10 hours of play before your whole Skyrim installation goes KerPLewIE BLAM SRRRRCCCRRWOOOOOOWWWWWW. Its Dead Jim. Over half of these mods are hugely bad on performance, many of them make huge edits to vanilla stuff in bad ways. Some you would have known if you carefully read every installation instruction, I know its tough. DCL and SD+ are not compatible. Paradise toss that. BBL anything throw it in a can, put gas on it, lite it on fire and run away. Throw out SPERG, Frostfall, and all immersive mods. Throw out Creature Framework and More Nasty Critters. Use the old Files that More Nasty Originated from, this is due to CF putting a script on every freakin creature in the game and no it doesn't despawn or cleanup after itself. That or just use only More Nasty and forget about every other script you want running. In short summery, You went way over the limits of possibility with script mods.
thekaptainn Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Thank you for the tips Gameplayer! I'm going through them now and editing my loadout. I'm torn about DCL and SD+. Those two are some of my favorite mods. I also enjoyed the combat improvements with SPERG, I guess I'll try and find a replacement. I appreciate you taking the time to go through the entire mod list and mark up the problem mods. Really, Thanks. If anyone one else has any other information I can use please post it. I'm looking to gather all the information I can before I start the process. :-) Edit: Another quick question for anyone viewing this page. I've read a lot of information about mod managers (some of it might be outdated) but I'm wondering which one you would recommend? I've been using Nexus Mod Manager, which should get me some heat, but I'm going to switch with this reinstall.
gvman3670 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Seriously consider Mod Organizer if you're reinstalling anyway. At least you won't ever have to do it again. Why? Clean data folder. That's why. And you can add then remove mods without ripping stuff to shreds that's been overwritten because MO doesn't actually overwrite anything (stuff can still get stuck in your game saves, though, so remove stuff with caution).
WraithSlayer Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Throw out SPERG, Frostfall, and all immersive mods. But... but... MY IMMERSION! In short summery, You went way over the limits of possibility with script mods. I'm not sure that applies to everyone the same way, it's more of a "your mileage may vary" thing. My current playthrough (about 80 hours in) has Frostfall, Creature Framework, half the SexLab mods on this site, the old Papyrus-hogging SexLab Aroused, a modified version of Deadly Monsters running a wide-area cloak to apply buff/debuffs to hostile NPCs/creatures, the XPMSE plugin (which runs on every NPC), and possibly other 'Papyrus nightmare-fuel' mods I may have forgotten, yet with all that piled up on top of each other, it still manages a script latency of around 50 ms in most areas, and load times are around 10-15 seconds for loading from the main menu, then usually 2-5 seconds through most of the game session. To OP: That's not to say having a large amount of scripts running is really a good idea for lower hardware specs, but if you're noticing a huge difference in load times just a few hours into a new game, I'd suspect the issue is some serious save bloat; which you don't need to have 200 script-heavy mods for, 1 misbehaving mod is all it takes to ruin everything. I can vouch for at least Frostfall not being the culprit of your problems; it may be script-heavy but it cleans up after itself.
thekaptainn Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Thanks for the info WraithSlayer. I'm with you, I do enjoy the immersion. I feel like it can add a lot to a playthrough. I may try and keep Frostfall. SPERG; I'm still on the fence about. I'm still looking for replacement. It does sound like you have a much better computer then mine though.

WraithSlayer Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 so what? well... that don't mean anything too mod a with mod b may be problems, but if someone only use one of them, no problem I was just letting the quoted poster know that there isn't an arbitrary limit when it comes to script mods, as he was claiming there is one. Some people can run pretty heavy stuff without running into problems. Also, I'm not sure what a screenshot of your quest stats has anything to do with the topic.
yatol Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Also, I'm not sure what a screenshot of your quest stats has anything to do with the topic. most of the game was done without problem and that don't mean my load order work, had to fix conflicts to make mod a work with mod b
Nasseliten Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Are you sure it's the loading screens getting longer? The reason I ask is because I recently started having this problem myself and I noticed it was actually saving the game that was taking longer. After disabling auto save on changing instances my load time went from 20 - 30 seconds to near instant. I have no idea why it's taking longer to save my game tough. I never had this problem before.
azerty852 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I would also remove alternate start. It will save you some compatibility headache.
thekaptainn Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Thanks gvman3670 for help with my manager choice. That one was one I heard a lot of good things about. Nasseliten, you make a good point. The time it takes to save does increase as well but I always figured that was part of the same problem. When I disable auto-save, my load times do go down quite a bit. I really do love the alternative start mod, I can't stand sitting through the starting cutscence. Azerty852, would removing alternative start help my load time issue or it is to improve potential loadout problems? I do appreciate both types of advice. I'm just curious for my own knowledge with the hope of creating a good re install.
azerty852 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I don't think alternate start causes load times issues. But it is incompatible with a lot of stuff. If you decide to use it read the incompatibilities and known issues in the readme twice. If you have any doubt don't install it.

If you decide to use it read the incompatibilities and known issues in the readme twice. If you have any doubt don't install it. There are quite a lot of mods that have the same number of (or even more) incompatibilities, LAL is just better than most at documenting them. Any time you add a new mod, it's smart to run TES5Edit to see if it overwrites anything you don't want it to.
CrimsonOmegaLance Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 If LAL can cause a lot of issues, how do people circumvent the Helgen start? I think I've found more issues with the Helgen start than with LAL.
Akzyra Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 It is not LAL that has the issues. Some mods just don't work well together (edit the same stuff; not clean; buggy). If you want details, read the README of LAL. If you have compat. problems, remove it. There are other ways to avoid Helgen Start.
