vram1974 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I've played through Skyrim 2 or 10 times before but I always dread the fight with Alduin because I always get humbled. I waited until Level 65 this time and gave it a shot on Master (my usual playthrough difficulty) but he really can't be killed based on what I have to offer. After 2 hours I had barely hurt him and his constant fire and ice attacks almost kill me in one shot so I can't stand still. I do have DEADLY DRAGONS mod so I'm not sure if Alduin is harder because of that? I tried using dragonrend and a bow from range to keep away from his attacks. Do you find that Gormlaith Golden-Hilt, Hakon One-Eye, and Felldir the Old are in general super useless? I mean they could at least use dragonrend. Is there a way to make this battle go smoother (not necessarily easier) next time? Maybe I just don't know the the right strategy?
Ashra XIII Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Honestly there's a point at which you have to understand that you've made the game impossible for yourself. Master difficulty + mods that make dragons substantially more difficult can be overcome, but only with certain character builds that essentially exploit game mechanics and are thus massively over-powered. I don't really understand the fun in making the game so difficult that you have to save-scum through any significant encounter, but to each their own. In your case though, it doesn't sound like you are having fun, so why not just lower the difficulty to make the fight do-able?

I did turn it down to Expert but at that point it just felt like cheating. I'm going to playthrough on the delevelled Requiem next time so we'll see if I do a better.
sweforce Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 On the other hand you are fighting a dragon that essentially a god so it is kind of appropriate.

Bethesda has had issues with difficulty scaling in past games, hence the mods that try to correct that. Ashra is right though, at some point if you mix the wrong mods and levels, you will make the game impossible, under the limitations Bethesda has. You might need to tweak the Dragons mod and figure out what is a possible, but difficult, encounter for your build type.
