Typically if you crash right there, it means you are have a bad load order, or you are missing a master file. By master file I mean, say mod X requires mod Y. If you don't have mod Y you will crash right there where you are.

Do what the poster above said and try using TES5Edit, it should fail and give you a error. Then you should know what is missing.

Okay it's fine up until it hit's Iorveth's Light armor then.

Gonna have to look up how to clean that. It did that before yet...it kept loading, the armor in game worked fine, and even worked with the Device Devices, though it didn't unequip when my character got into armbinders and stuff. don't know if it was supposed to but *shrug* had no issues.

And besides those ARMA out of order subrecords....no issues.
Link to comment

Ok well then you know that is the mod causing the issues. Either it has a missing master or it is conflicting with another mod.

My first suggestion would be to just uninstall the mod, run loot, then load up skyrim and see if it loads. If it does then you have confirmation it is that mod. Then I would go to that mod page and see if it lists any mods that are incompatible and see if any of your other mods are on that list.

Link to comment

No errors, but a lot of messages saying files were 'Injected' into others. I might have to go through each mod one by one to figure this out. 100 + mods. >.> my eyes...my...poor poor eyes.

unfortunately that's gonna have to wait till after work. Thank you all for your help so far. Hopefully with your help this can be fixed without resorting to a new Install. Which is the Nuclear Option.

Link to comment

For the life of me I don't know what it could be. Going through them on the NMM all their masters are in, and in the proper order. Loot doesn't mark any as missing one...*shrug* Skyrim is a fragile little piece of Software ain't it?

If anyone replies and I don't right away, It's because I had to leave.

Link to comment

Well TES5EDIT when run will pick up any mod that has a missing master or the master is below the one needing it to be above it.

Whenever I run into a mod that has errors like the Iorveth one I get rid of it the errors in that one seem to be coming from the armor addons for the mod. You might have something installed that your game isn't liking if all else fails you might have to try turning a few mods off at a time try your game if it works great if it crashes go back and turn a few more off and try again and keep doing it till you narrow it down to the last group you turned off them go and turn 1 of them back one 1 at a time while checking your game till you find the one that causes the problem then you will know which one it is and to get rid of it and reactivate the other ones you turned off.

Link to comment

That's a really good idea. I'll have to try that when I get back. Turning them off in NMM will be enough right? Won't have to uninstall the mods again and again? I did fully remove the Iorveth armor. What happens if the game won't load with just the base files? Skyrim, update, dawnguard, hearthfire, dragonborn, and the unofficial patches?

Link to comment

Yes just untick the .esp make sure to watch which ones you turn off as some might have other requirements and if you turn the requirement off but bot the mod that requires it then you will still get a CTD from that one because it will be because of a missing or turned off master.

If the game wont load with just the base mods then something messed up those base files and you would have to redo everything to fix it. If the base files are messed up best thing to do would be to wipe out the *whole* skyrim folder then uninstall it from steam then reinstall it back this way you make sure you have gotten rid of everything from your old game otherwise if you just uninstall it and reinstall it back there will still be crap in your game folder from the old game because steam only uninstalls what it originally installed into the folder and your new install will still be messed up because of the stuff that was left behind.

Link to comment

ok look. i agree with myuhinny. this is so not worth the headace you can and will get from this if you try and simply fix it (i was noob, tried to fix everything when these things happned and the result was that there where such a big mess in the data folder even after i cleaned every single mod i had.) in these rare ocasions take the advice and uninstall and reinstall. (when i didnt i ended up having to reinstall windows becouse tea HDD kept overloading and i still have permanent damage to the HDD) just this time. to get the most stable game possible install these mods in that order before installing anything else (these are essentials and shuld be made shure to work proper before any other installation

  • SKSE (this shuldn't even need a motivation)
  • SKYui (mainly for the MCM menu wich is very very essential. there is a mod called SKYUI away if you dont like the new menus)
  • The Unofficial patches (fixes every game breaking, major, anoying and minor bug the vannila game has. will make the game 99% bug free if playing at vanilla)

Now after i'd made sure these work perfectly install every graphical mod you want. and i mean every one you will use. every texture replacers you want and even mesh replacers like SMIM. Lighting mods awell. body mods can be installed whenever though recomended to install now aswell. after this install skyrim performance monitor and start up skyrim. then find a very recource demanding location and stand there (windhelm docks orwhiterun on the stairs overlooking the entire town). this is just to get a good image of how much power your system has left to work with. do not let the RAM usage go over 3,1 GB or you will crash. there is only one workaround and that is ENBoost. but this is not a full workaround. just gives more room to move in. (it decreases RAM used but will make it use VRAM instead. and skyrim can alocate an infinate amount of VRAM without crashing)

a common mistake many makes is that you think only by hitting the RAM limmit you can crash the game. this is why we installed Skyrim performance monitor. try not to let GPU and CPU usage go over 90% for the best performance and stability. try to keep GPU heat under 70°C (158°F) to prevent damage.

Good mods to improve stability

and after you install all of this and the game is as stable as its gonna get backup the skyrim data folder to an external folder (like create a folder called backups and copy the entire skyrim folder there) now keep modding like hell. push it to the absolute limmit if you want to but keep performance in mind. GPU overload will crash the game as fast as hitting the RAM limmit. but now if you much it up you dont lose as much progres. you basicaly have a patched and grapichally improved syrim to work with and it is a good base to start with so that you have a good base on how much power you have left to work with.

Tip: when installing all the grapical mods try installing the mods you find essential. the must haves. the ones you cant live without. like more hotkeys if you want it. just make sure everything is stable and have a framerate of over 40 at least

Tip 2: ENB:s make more of a diffrence over texture reselutions. try installing the ENB you want and turn the quality on skyrim up to ultra. than decrease the diffrent render distances to like half the original values. this saves much more resourses and does not look that bad. do keep in mind that if you have a weak GPU DO NOT install a heavy ENB. go performance. even those make a big diffrence. it makes the textures seem higher quality the they acctually are

Tip 3: Windowed mode boosts performance for most people. just make sure that you install the mod OneTweak to get rid of the acctuall window and make the game look like fuil screen but its windowed. only downside is that you cannot tweak brightness in windowed.

So... after that huge amount of work you skyrim shuld be set to work for forever now. do keep in mind thatif you delete the main folder and replace with the backup nexus mod manager will probably think you did nothing. not sure how to fix this. what i do is treat the mods i installed as with the main game so i basicaly dont need to be able to uninstall them. teherefore make shure that the mods you backed up will not be mods you may want to deactivate later. this litteraly took 80 minutes to type so im gonna go to bed now.

Edit: i looked it up. Safety load is not obselite.

Edit: your core files are good? Well then you probably dont suck as i did on my first install :)

Link to comment

Well so far it does startup with the core files. Okay and already I am finding an issue. Now to narrow it down, The last couple mods I installed before things went tits up was the ELFX mods and Immersive College or winterhold. and Improved College of winterhold NPCs. Turning just those on causes a CTD.

Turning off: TCoW Improvement stops CTD. TCoW Improvement.esp...which Oddly enough is  a Compability patch between

Immersive College of Winterhold

and

The College of Winterhold NPC Improvement.

Lets see if it will run with the other mods on and that one off.

And indeed it does. Seems that was the one causing the issue. gonna have to uninstall it.

*looks at the post above this.*.....wow didn't notice that till after this post. O.o Hmmm...That is really good advice though. I'll consider a full uninstall/reinstall. If I have anymore issues I will in a heartbeat. But the Core files are fine for right now.

I like ELFX but it doesn't work with some mods and can cause issues.

Not sure how those last two would cause a problem, I looked at both of them and one looks like it only changes the way the NPC's at the college look and the other changes everything else at the college.

Now for the improvement one with the ELFX patch I could see that being a issue if it was made for a older version of ELFX, sometimes when a mod like ELFX gets updated. Old patches in other mods stop working with it.

Did you try loading your load order into MO to see if it can pick up if any mods are missing masters? I don't use MO myself other than using it to diagnose if I crash at start up to see what master files I accidentally remove when I do some mod pruning.

Played a few hours last night. Game is running fine....but after TheUsefulPotion's post and this thread: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/47360-anatriaxs-wonderful-world-of-skyrim/ still considering a full reinstall. If only to make the game look better from the get go.

I lost my old saves a while ago due to a Harddrive breaking, and I'm not very far in this new save game so...reinstalling at this point isn't a big deal. Just annoying and time consuming.

Yeah the reinstalls is really anoying. but soo woth it in my opinion.

given the amount of mods you have you probably have leftover scripts thats is taking up alot of power.

BTW the guy on the thread you linked to have an overpowered system. that prossesor is so powerfull he will never have to worry about CPU power. this is a rough comparison of my GPU and his http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-8760-vs-GeForce-GTX-960. that SSD will boost performance alot aswell due to faster read times so the CPU will not need to cahce as much data. the 4 GB VRAM will make skyrim stable as a rock with ENBoost. the RAM he has is more then what skyrim can alocate and windows needs only 4 GB (essentially meaning that he will have 900 MB RAM free at all times when runnig skyrim.

so that system is more then enught to (i havent read anything but his specs yet) run skyrim with a fperformance heavy ENB, skyrim HD set to 4K, game running on ultra with full render distance and open cities skyrim with a decent 40-50 fps as worst. so i wouldnt follow his guide fully. (unless you have an overpowered system too. the feel free. just keep in mind the more VRAM you have the more mods you can use without skyrim crashing due to RAM usage reacing 3,1 GB) i am gonna read it afer posting and i'll get back to you about it

however if you are inded going to reinstall. try to write down all mods you want and possibly even pre downlaod the graphical ones. (really boring to stare at a download that will take forever when you can just download it in advance)

now if you chosse to download the mods in advance. make a folder on your desktop named skyrim mods or something like that. then manually download every mod you wanted and drag them to this foler (without extracting them first, save the archives in the folder). then on nexus mod manager (i use that and have not tested on anything else) click on the blue pussle piece with a green plus sign on it and start adding the mods you intsalled. (this is like downloading with manager but way more stable downloads) now you can just activate the mods.

that was just a more convinent way to download so that you wont need to do it once more. you can leave the archives there and you will not need to download them again. if this is just stupid in your eyes then fell free to ignore it. just keep the VRAM part in mind and that his system is above avrage.

also im swedish so excuse any misspellings i may have not seen while going through this before posting

Edit:i have now read everything (mostly)

and i was right about the FPS. his SSD will still make a diffrence over the HDD. but if its three years old it is probably starting to loose performance.

his CPU... i have a weaker one (FX 8300 3,3 GHz Octa core) and im usually fine. but if you got an intel CPU like a I5 4460 your more then good.

as of GPU. no more FPS is probably just becouse the GTX 960 4 GB is only newer then the 660 2 GB. still more powerfull but only slightly. u see any seasoned tech guy or gamer will know that as for Nvidia cards the first number is gen and the second is version / power. had he bought a 970 he would have seen a 5-10 FPS boost if not more. the extra VRAM is probably what removed the stutering. stutter (also called frezze lag) is usually caused by not having enugh VRAM. (most games it's the normal RAM but skyrims RAM is capped at 3,1 and everybody's with a PC that is 2 years old or newer will havce at least 8 GB. and windows only needs 4 GB) as my GPU likes to remind me about... alot... in skyrim...

i suck at motherboards and colling systems so nothing to say about that

otherwise hes good at this. if you have the specs for it just follow everything he says (or do it your own way and take tips from the guide. (that acctually does require that you know some good bascis and perhaps more then basics about modding) if not then try to prioritise graphical mods. as tey are the main GPU power theives. scripts use the CPU though. but try not to overload papyrus (or whatever the scripts in skyrim are called. im no mod maker) or you will crash pretty damn fast.

Edit: (i type to much)

I actually use a GTX 960. When my Harddrive broke I upgraded my system. I have 16G worth of Ram. I'm not gonna go with 4K textures because I don't think my monitor can go that high. Yeah I'm gonna go through NMM and the mods I had to DL manually and pick out the ones I want to Re-download. Skyre is something new I want to try need to check if any of the mods I had conflict with it. The Overhauls I had at least, since Skyre seems to overhaul everything expect the Civil War.

Link to comment

yeah id not go with 4K. the diffrence is not worth the performance loss even if you do have the monitor.

skyre have a custom made compatability patcher that uses skyproccer. so just run it and everything that will not be compatible with it will show up in LOOT.

as of the civil war theres really only one mod that overhauls that.

i personally run skyre and i belive it adds imersive weapons to the game (can have been perkus maximus i dont remember). it is also incompatible with mods that overhauls the perk trees but it wont crash, just get overitten by the other mod.

it also boosts weapon damage for all vanilla weapons and boosts armor rating for vanilla armor. you will require separeta mods to make it work with modded items. i can post links and a good video if you need it.

BTW given your graphics card. get ENBoost. with a simple INI tweak you can download and run ENB:s at the same time as its on and will redirect some RAM usage to the VRAM.(i may have already said that... idk :))  ENBoost will turn of the ENB if not told to not do that in the INI file

The only things I had that altered Perks was Nock2tip. and from what I saw of skyre, I'd prefer it's trees. I don't think my vampire mods altered perk trees. I Have read about a slight issue with how Skyre affects unarmed damage, in regards to werewolf form. So there might be an issue with Bloodmoon Rising/Moonlight tales.

Modded items...is that just something that alters vanilla items stats? Or that add new items? like If I add Bosmer Armor, or Scoiatel weapons would that cause a conflict. And yeah that video would be helpful thanks.

I've been to the ENBoost page and I can't find a DL link to it. I have never used ENB's before this will be the first time.

Link to comment

ENBoost is not an ENB. its an ENB ini file with the graphical stuff turned of (its the enblocal.ini)

Modded items is any item that the vanilla game did not include. a good example is the bows nock to tip adds. they will suck becouse you will have imperial bows doing more damage. i can post a link to a good video explaining how to make it work with other items. basiclaly it just alters the item stats. it does not change anything else so shuld be perfectly compatible with every single mod on the nexus.

can be a few that has not been covered yet. in short donwnload this, this and this then watch this video. the video is a bit outdated so basically balbor and steelsoulds skyre reproccer project is the skyre compatabillity and reproccer patches. (you can use balbor and steelsould but this one covers more mods)

i am unaware of the unarmed issue but i dont play werewolf.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well having a new issue....an odd issue.

I upgraded from Skyre to Perkus Maximus.

did everything right.

Mage save crashes when I try to save or leave....I think it's boned.

My Newest save however seemed fine. Worked great Monday, Tuesday, yesterday and today. Now...after I came home from work. The Save, Quick save, and all but the third Auto Save crash when loading. I'm at High Hrothgar

The Third save will play until I go to follow Borri out to the Courtyard then Bam infinite Loading screen.

I think my saves are corrupted. Especially since according to the Papyrus logs they seem to be looking for ESP's to mods I fully deleted before my reinstall.
