greyspammer Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 This problem is so weird, I don't even know how to come up with a good subject for it. Sorry about that. Anyway. I created a new (and rather small) exterior world space. In the CK, it looks fine: Note that the COCMarker is right next to the DoorMarker. It also looks fine if I 'coc' directly into it right after I started Skyrim (taking a few steps away from the COCMarker and looking back at the entrace): But: If I enter it through a door (like the AutoLoadDoor01 you see in the screenshot from the CK), then it suddenly seems like the floor is split into several planes that hover in the air on various heights. The mountains can be seen somewhere far down below. After the level has been screwed up this way once, it will always look that way. Even if I 'coc' out, do a 'pcb' and then 'coc' back in. The only way to get it to look correct again is to quit Skyrim, start it again and 'coc' freshly into the worldspace. I'm lost as to what the problem might be or with what words I could even attempt to feed Google. Does anyone have any ideas what I did wrong? My other two worldspaces never had this problem...
Shadowhawk827 Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Wow, there seems to be a small epidemic of this happening lately. Third or so post I've seen about it. One of a few things is happening here. Most likely you have a bad or corrupted mod overwriting the worldspace. If you're familiar with TES5edit, you can use that to wipe the edited cells with a standard clean operation. If that doesn't work, you'll have to ditch the mod or edit it yourself, after you find the culprit of course. IF Skyrim itself got corrupted, you might be able to salvage it with a "Verify Local Content" via Steam; Right Click on the game in your library list --> Properties --> Local Content tab ---> Verify Cache button. Occasionally this works, usually it just overwrites the changes I've made to my Skyrim, ini file. >_< This is SUPER rare, but I've heard that in extremely rare cases it may be a case of not enough system memory or VRAM and the game brainfarts. I *REALLY doubt that's the case here though, since you don't seem to be running crazy high graphics settings. When you find the culprit, you may still need to use something like Skyrim Save Game Cleaner to remove the bad terrain data from your save file.
greyspammer Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 Well, the worldspace is of my own creation. It is not overwritten but a genuine addition by my mod. So I didn't overwrite anything and nothing can overwrite my stuff because noone knows it's there. TES5Edit doesn't show anything to clean up. It also reports no errors or warnings regarding that worldspace when I check for errors. Or am I missing something? It also cannot be a savegame problem because I 'coc' into the worldspace directly from the main menu. There is no savegame loaded. Memory shouldn't be a problem (16GB RAM, NVidia GTX760 with 2GB VRAM). That should be plenty for a 4 year old game running with FullHD. As for verifying the Skyrim installation: I'll have to try that. But it seems strange that it would affect a worldspace that is not even a part of vanilla Skyrim and nothing else. I'll probably run a filesystem check as well. Just to be sure.
Shadowhawk827 Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Mods overwrite the vanilla textures / worldspace. Clean your mod with TES5edit and you'll solve the problem. It probably wasn't even anything you did. The CK just ate a good portion of Riften on me a few months back without any terrain editing on my part.
greyspammer Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 Update: I checked the filesystem, the installation and even reinstalled Skyrim and all mods from scratch, just in case. I also tried to clean the mod but there was nothing to clean. At least nothing I could find with TES5Edit. Everything that it overrides from vanilla Skyrim is there for a reason and, if removed, would just have to be done again in the same way. Which I did for the cells where the door to my worldplace was placed. But it did not solve the problem. After spending one complete weekend on this, I gave up and simply removed the worldspace from my mod. It was not crucial and not worth the time I had to invest in it.
