Setekh Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Skyrim is a single player game, what people do within it is their businesses and no one elses.
Guest Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Imagine one of your acquaintances. He's so obsessed with fictional stories made by a group of people to the point that he dictates others' interpretation of said materials. Do you want to talk to him? I personally don't.
Guest Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Most video game lore gets a retcon at some point anyway. Chris Metzen routinely retcons his retcons. And comic books do it all the time. Peter Parker dead? Pffft. They'll just mutter something about multiverses and Ultimate versus NEW Ultimate and let the fanboys stew over it all for a bit. It's really quite pointless, these hardcore fans getting their melons twisted over every little scrap of lore being in it's precise and hallowed place when the people who make these worlds tend not to be anywhere near as anal as Tolkien and will merrily turn it all on it's head if it suits them to. The gods they worship are fickle. And in pursuit of personal gratification, so am I. That's all she wrote.

The gods they worship are fickle. And in pursuit of personal gratification, so am I. That's all she wrote. It's a valid point. SWTOR, that I griped about in an earlier post being a good example. For the first decade after Star Wars came out, Lucas kept a tight rein on the Star Wars universe and held the continuity together. Once he started getting royalty checks though, it ALL went out the window. There's so many contradictions now it's silly. Even more so when you get into the deep past where KOTOR and SWTOR are set. It happens even with games like City of Heroes though where the continuity does stay consistent. And when the nitpickers couldn't fight over lore issues, they split hairs over things like the Longbow forces (think a UN backed version of SHIELD for those who don't know) using weapons like gatling cannons and flamethrowers that blatantly violated the Geneva Convention. Some people are just going to complain no matter what, lol. And rather than derail the thread about the validity of those weapons really being against the Geneva Convention... Suffice it to say if you research it, you'll find that they and several other weapons are, but there are TONS of loopholes. Heavy machine guns can't be used on troops for example, but they can be used on equipment. What do troops carry? Equipment. Lets leave it at that instead of derailing the thread though.
