You can still get it directly from the GIMP homepage.  Sourceforge is apparently just a mirror

It's not worrisome just because of GIMP but because Souceforge has been important to the open source community in general, particularly to small projects.

Unfortunately, there's still others who think SF is still reliable. I'm mostly getting stuff from Github, but otherwise anything I download I usually check first if it's safe or not.
