Such a finicky game >.<

This game is so damned picky, I'm just about to give up on it! 

Install a mod, works fine. Install the next on my list? Crash on launch. Delete .ini in \My Games\Oblivion. Run launcher, set to medium, works fine. Go in game, Change from Bloom to HDR, close, install next mod, crash on launch....

 

 

I'm seriously about to give up on Oblivion, period. How you guys have the patience to make this game work properly? I'll never know.

I don't think it works right for everyone I guess it depends on the computer. What are you using to organize your mods?

 

Heh. Presently, Wrye Bash. I tried MO at first, with no success. It's totally borked for Oblivion, I suppose. From what I've read all of the work arounds to make MO work with Oblivion basically nullify the point of using MO (aside from a clean data folder, and the guide I'm following has you install your data folder as a mod in Wrye Bash, anyway, so you always have a clean copy to revert to). 

 

My PC shouldn't be an issue. It runs EVERYTHING else just fine.

 

This only happens whenever I change the Oblivion.ini in ANY way (besides setting screen resolution in the launcher). If I turn off Bloom and turn on HDR? Crash. If I turn off V-Sync? Crash. If I tick to have LOD Trees? Crash. 

 

I'm starting to think I'm wasting a lot of time and energy on a game that I'm never going to get to enjoy.

I use wyre bash too, I found out the hard way that if I alter a mod with CS or CSE I have to use the redate option win wyre bash then move the mod back to where it was in my load order before starting the game again.

 

I think there was something about oblivion where you can't use AA if either HDR or BLOOM was on?

Frankly, the worst I usually have is a ctd on exiting when I install too may mods, which is easy to exit out of, and some fps drop with fancy armors.

 

Try less overhauls, more gear and quests.

I'm not using any real overhauls. Some UI stuff, some suggested OBSE plugins, a few texture packs, and some weather and lighting mods. As far as quests? Heh. Morroblivion. Nuff said. I'll have my hands full for awhile. LOL


I THINK I have part of it figured out. It seems some mods in Wrye Bash want to edit the .ini, and that's where my issue is coming in. I set it as "read only" and so far so good. I'm installing one at a time, and testing after each mod. I've also done all of my .ini edits manually, instead of in game, as per UESP suggestions.

Things like morroblivion and kvatch rebuilt those kind of never finished mods always cause problems even things like better cities and weather mods too.

 

You can right click on a mod in wyre bash then go to file from the pop up list and select redate from the next popup list.

 

I think you only need to do that after altering a mod though.

Ah. I'm not sure if I'm going to have to worry about backdating BSA's, though. Hishutup has me unpacking most of them.

Any suggestions on load order? That's the only thing I can think of. It can't be my .ini anymore. It was working fine before these UI mods were installed, and is set to "read only" so no changes *I* don't want to make can be made.

Didn't the unofficial oblivion patch include the fix for that citadel door?

You can always run BOSS or compare to the BOSS masterlist.txt

And be sure you have any needed OBSE plugins required. Always good to double check install instructions to be sure.

You may benefit from 'cleaning' the DLC mods.
