oaja Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 So I have been having trouble with my fallout 3 for awhile... and its starting to piss me off... so i would like some help.  Windows 7 64bit. i5-2450 with 6gb of ram. it worked fine running vanilla. worked fine before, then like a dumbass i uninstalled and reinstalled, and anyone with windows 7 and FO3 realizes how annoying this is.  anywho...  load order is as such...  Fallout3.esm Anchorage.esm ThePitt.esm BrokenSteel.esm PointLookout.esm Zeta.esm Advanced Recon Tech.esm CALIBR.esm CRAFT.esm Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow.esm FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esm FO3 Wanderers Edition - Alternate Travel.esp FWE - Combat Overhaul_Core.esm RH_IRONSIGHTS.esm 1PipboyPDA.esp Advanced Recon Gear.esp Advanced Recon Tech.esp CALIBRxMerchant.esp ColtM4Carbines.esp CRAFT - Activation Perk.esp dD - Enhanced Blood Main.esp Enhanced Weather - Radioactive Rain and Snow Plugin.esp Enhanced Weather - Rain and Snow in Fallout.esp Enhanced Weather - Sneak Bonus during Storms.esp Enhanced Weather - Weather Sounds in Interiors.esp Flora Overhaul.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esp FWE - Combat Overhaul_Equipment.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Followers Enhanced (BrokenSteel).esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Followers Enhanced.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Broken Steel.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Anchorage.esp Alternate Start - Roleplayers.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Mothership Zeta.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Point Lookout.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC The Pitt.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Optional Restore Tracers.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Optional Restore Tracers (automatics only).esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Optional VATS Realtime.esp FO3 Wanderers Edition - Optional VATS Halftime.esp Gloveless Readius.esp H&K PSG-1 Sniper Rifles.esp RH_IronSights_Basic_AnchoragePlugin.esp RH_IronSights_Basic_ZetaPlugin.esp RH_IronSights_Basic_VanillaPlugin.esp RH_IronSights_Basic_PointLookoutPlugin.esp RH_IronSights_Basic_PittPlugin.esp RH_IronSights_Basic_BrokenSteelPlugin.esp RH_IronSights_Pitt_NewRifleSights.esp RH_IronSights_PL_NewItems.esp RH_IronSights_RemoveReticule.esp Stealthboy Recon Armor - CRAFT.esp ZL-ACR.esp  Total active plugins: 53 Total plugins: 54  it crashes shortly after first note of intro. leading me to think its a missing dependent on a mod. but none i can find. so thought maybe load order... not an issue i can see. im at a loss..  if someone can help id be very happy.  "tl;dr Fo3 goty win7 64bit fucked my face by uninstalling, help with working again."
myuhinny Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Have you run FO3Edit? http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/637/?When you did your uninstall reinstall did you delete your fallout 3 folder? If not that might be the cause as when you uninstall a game from steam it only removes what it installed and anything else is left behind so there might be left over things from any mods. Have you run BOSS for load order?Â
pantherlux Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 i'm not sure if this will help you, but searching arounf with "fo3 goty, crash on start up/intor" mostly came up with the same solution: (copy paste from steam forum) Â Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3Find the line:bUseThreadedAI=0 change it to:bUseThreadedAI=1Add another line after it and insert:iNumHWThreads=2This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze.*If the game still crashes write this iNumHWThreads=1 Â since you allready said you dont found a mising master... (remember to back up the ini file, just in case)

If not that might be the cause as when you uninstall a game from steam it only removes what it installed and anything else is left behind so there might be left over things from any mods. Have you run BOSS for load order? Â Yes I deleted my entire folder and started fresh. I'll run fo3 edit and boss anyway to check. i'm not sure if this will help you, but searching arounf with "fo3 goty, crash on start up/intor" mostly came up with the same solution: (copy paste from steam forum) Â Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3 Find the line: Â bUseThreadedAI=0 Â change it to: Â bUseThreadedAI=1 Â Add another line after it and insert: Â iNumHWThreads=2 Â This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze. Imperfection Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Try the following in no particular order... Â 1. Make sure you have latest NVSE and such if required by any of your mods 1. Standard troubleshooting, disable mods 5 or so at a time until problems stops, start adding 1 at time back in till problem comes back. 2. Load entire load order in latest version of FO3edit and check for errors, if missing master it will tell you <error code 2> I think 3. I also dont see that you have created a merged patch, try making one in FO3edit. 4. Backup your fallout.ini and falloutpref.ini and create new ones via the launcher. Â inumHWThreads=2 should work and is requried for FO3, all the other threaded this and that settings have been debunked as doing nothing or actually causing crashes by the author of NVAC. Â Hope that helps,
Halstrom Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 While we're in this thread, there's something that has to be done to FO3 GOTY to run under Windows 8, No Mods added yet. I can't find where the thread went telling me what to fix, whatever it was, I get to this screen and when I click play it disappears and nothing else happens
JerseyWalrus Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 I'd recommend you get the UPDATED Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch. It's very necessary. Not only does it come with bug fixes but has a built in CTD reducer plus other such neccessities that run the game smoothly. Back when I played Fallout 3 (before TTW), I almost never crashed with the mod active. Â PS, I use Windows 7
oaja Posted May 28, 2015 Author Posted May 28, 2015 I will be trying all of these and will let you know. Â And tried it. UFP helped get to see the Knight before the menu, but crashed there after... Â
eludicous Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 If memory serves the starting title screen crashing has something to do with a codec ffdshow. Â Google it. Â Have you use the games for windows live disabler?
Guest endgameaddiction Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 If I'm understanding correct, you reinstalled Fallout 3 with no mods and it's not working now, or is it not working with mods installed? Â CTD on slide screen, indicates to me like it's an incompatible mod, or if you've merged plugins, odds are you merged one that requires another compatible plugin and that will cause you to CTD on launch because it cannot find it as it's included in the merge. Â I have Win7 OS 64bit and I've uninstalled/reinstalled Fallout 3 GOTY so many times and never had a problem. Â Â

Anatriax Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 http://wiki.step-project.com/User:Kelmych/Fallout3#Texture_OverhaulsFound this little gem on the web. If you want a super cool game, with little to no problems, read his guide and follow it word for word. His guide is the inspiration for my Skyrim guide, here in Skyrim Tech Support. Partly stability, partly immersion, partly beauty. Just an all around good guide to have handy.
oaja Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 OK so i removed all old content, removed all local content from steam, all the mods, fresh start. Forgot how much of a bitch FO3 is with windows 7. Got the game to work without mods. installed the mods you see, and then it started acting up. I feel it has a problem with the mods, it acts as if there is a required mod missing, but according to the pages I got them from I'm not missing any. Load order looks fine to me and i'm just at a loss. If I'm understanding correct, you reinstalled Fallout 3 with no mods and it's not working now, or is it not working with mods installed? I try not to mess with things that I know little about, especially without checking if the plugins needed merging. I too feel as if its a mod problem, but I dunno which, they all have the required mods and it LOOKS fine, but I dunno, my skyrim has 270 or so, and can play for hours without crashing, NV has 100+ and is fine, so i feel I am ok at following directions, but this is frustrating..
Guest endgameaddiction Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 The other suggestion I can offer is installing one mod at a time while starting Fallout 3 at the same time until you run into the specific plugin(s) that's causing your CTD.

He runs you through several things before you even start modding the game or open it up that, I suppose, make sure the game works the way it's supposed to work.  I really would check out his guide.
oaja Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 My guess was the Advance tech was crashing the game, left that and the weather mod off, works now, thank you all. <3
