Absolutely Crucial Things you should have installed first before anything else.

Download SKSE

http:\skse

You can just open your Skyrim Folder the one that contains the TESV.exe and dump the contents inside.

You should now have it installed.

Understand THIS, SKSE does not enable memory tweak by default

Here is a file that contains these tweaks in the SKSE.ini plug, which is also not installed by default.

Contents of the SKSE.ini File

ClearInvalidRegistrations set to 1

SKSE memory tweak also enabled

No other popular stuff enabled

Note, its usually expected that we make the folder structure and the file ourselves and this is entirely possible for anyone with a legit copy of windows.

Drop the Data folder into your SKYRIM FOLDER.

Without this Tweak your effectively using the same amount of memory that a consul platform such as XBOX has.

Without this Tweak your going to crash hard.

Your game has a low priority meaning it can be interrupted by other programs

OneTweak by virusek on Nexus

This tweak forces high priority.

I am not responsible for anything that happens to your game or computer/life

This Tweak may interfere with normal computer back ground functions much the same way as many suppression programs like GameBooster.

The exception is that OneTweak does not shut these back ground operations off, so they are still running, just with a lower priority than Skyrim.

This means Windows cant rob performance from Skyrim when it is in the foreground.

Yes you can crash because some silly program or another in the background told windows it needs more power! BUT with this installed Windows simply cannot take power away from Skyrim because the Task Manager now thinks that Skyrim is more important than AdobeFlashPlayerUpdator/whatevertheFprogramBSthatjustCrashedYou....Yes until this tweak a stupid updater that you don't even care about can crash you and you might not even know it was an updater.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40706/?

Install that to your Skyrim Game Folder,

I didn't say use NMM.

Pro's

With this tweak you can ALT-TAB without issues such as crashes and lighting failure.

Game gets a higher priority so background programs don't rob your game of resources

Con's

Your Brightness level is now tied to your desktop settings >< meaning color just is not the same and many lighting and ENB's will not appear as they should, includes adjustments by weather mods.

ENB Boost

Text File containing links and pictures attached to this post.

If you only installed the basic download version from the nexus page you have not actually configured your ENB to your computers specifications.

This means that the Boost may not work at all.

I just took these pictures at random from the internet so I don't have whatever card that is in the picture.  It's just the only way I could figure out how to share this in case someone speaks some other language or needs pics.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not a user of ENB presets but since my own FPS had to be clamped at 60 once I successfully installed ENB Boost I'm actually considering it again.

I have only just started reading this guide I found over at Nexus.  I put the address in an attached txt file sorry I cant be buggered to learn how to actually fully edit a webpage to busy tinkering with my game.

I think its important that if your going to use an ENB that you make sure its working properly an all to often complaint by new users is Low FPS.  It takes forever and a day before they say I'm using ENB.  Well uh how am I supposed to help you with that?

Typically what I hear is that 30FPS is about tops for an ENB user, if your not running optimized, and you haven't read everything about ENB I really don't think you should expect people to fix your problem.  If you look around you'll realize that's a lot of shit to read right?  So uh why should I know about that if I'm not using it?

It has been my understanding that ENB's come in a variety of Flavors and guess what some are going to hit way harder than others....Just because you met the authors specifications doesn't mean jack because until you have done every little thing to optimize your game before you modded it guess what you have no idea if its a mod esp, a texture, or what.

You should be tackling these things before you get carried away with modding not after.  I have no idea if the game was running at 60 FPS before you installed said ENB.  I have no idea if you'll get 60 FPS with ENB, what I've heard is 60 FPS is unlikely with ENB.

Skyrim Configurator

A painless way to configure your Skyrim.INI and SkyrimPrefs.INI

What you don't think you need help altering your INI files?

Would you like to enable Multi-threading the Right way or the Wrong Way.

Want your game to behave like its on an XBOX Emulator or on a real computer?

The reality is most Threading posts you will dig up anywhere are going to not work as promised.

You don't have to download Config if your using Mod Organizer it comes packaged in.

Your Shadows look aweful, lets do something about that.

INSS Improved New Skyrim Shadows for Medium-Range PC

Found on Nexus, I use these.

You will be adjusting your SkyrimPrefs.INI File now, it would be easier with Configulator or MO version of Config.

Backup your INI file and follow his steps.

Shadows you have now no matter how badly your running Ultimate Shadow via the Graphics Panel guess what?

Your Game still thinks that shadows should be rendered like its on an XBOX.

So your going to see Stripping, weird shadow overlap glitches, and more oddities.

Making those changes to your INI file will create a stark night and day difference for the overall appearance to the game.

I choose the Medium Range, and what I have as a result is way better than what a normal end user will experience.

There are no ESP plugs for this kind of fix, no scripts, and this modification will work with what ever else you decide to do to your install.

So what's the difference?

I mean really your game might have been running great and even made some people envious in your nieborhood right?

Well here's my lame ass probably wrong way of trying to give you an idea what is going on.

Default Game Engine Settings

CPU               Single Core Threading  (Meant for consul)

Video Card     Your Actual VRAM

Memory           3.1 G possible  < that now comes patched if you own the game legit it has been fixed already.

Memory Allotment for tasks: 256 memory for tasks in waiting (called a heap task ie waiting to happen).  A possible 256 outgoing IE stuff the game has to forget (called a dumptask)

Game will crash if TaskManager decides it needs to allocate extra memory to some other task

Your shadows are weird.

Vs

TWEAKED !!!

CPU  Multi Threaded usage (ie takes its supposed to use more than one core when it can)

Video Card  Your Actual VRAM plus (if ENB Boost is enabled properly and you have 8+ GIGS of RAM extra memory allotted to help via enbhost.exe this should have a direct impact on possible FPS and FPS stability)

Memory  Still 3.1 G possible

Memory Allotment:  Forced via SKSE MEM Tweak at its default setting allots 756 to primary heap, 256 to the dump heap (important difference here is that this is 1/4 Gig of Ram on standby its waiting and ready to do its job, where'as before you could just crash because the game engine failed to start this dump process)

Taskmanager thinks Skyrim is important so its not going to take memory away to run some other background program.

Shadows look better.

We still haven't added what people like to call mods.

Pictures with no FPS counter cause I failed at capturing the Counter Oh wells.

So I just painted my observed FPS right on the Picture.

------------------------

Whiterun Market Place

Skyrim2K Medium Pack, Bigger Free DLC Texture Packs

JK's Whiterun

Inconsequentail NPC's

HD Items out the wazo ok all kinds of HD textures here Im talking even the frying pan and the egg on it.

SMIM

Now without ENB Boost, this area would be slideshow.

Also note that none of the textures have been optimized, though I wouldn't get too crazy about compression giving uh optimization with no visual loss.  There is going to visual loss, I hear resizing helps.  However I have not tried a true resize tool just yet, no "Optimized Textures / Ordinator" does not count for that.

I choose a location that I knew for a fact would have a shit ton of stuff in HD with lots of NPC's moving around.  Now sure there might be better spots but this one has HD Textures and way too many objects actually because well JK put too much shit right here.

Intel I-7 3.9 GHZ

GTX 550TI with 1 Gig

8 Gigs of RAM

yada yada

Nvidia says that at ultimate settings Pre-HD DLC Textures mind you is like 40-45ish FPS.  Dude understand this is without any mods or even a texture pack from Bethsada.

So ENB enabled 9 FPS

ENB BOOST no enb effects right 32 stable

Without all those tweaks I covered it'd run at 5 FPS or just crash.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Base Game Resolution 512 Textures

HD DLC Textures 1024

Skyrim2K Textures 2048

Your Probably thinking that a jump from 512 to 1024 is just x2???

Right I mean it's twice the number right?

Well your wrong.

Just thinking about it in terms of actual amount of hardisk space that jump is around 4X+ you see its not linear like a line but more like a square.  Kinda like 512 to the power of 2 in actual amount of data that needs to transfer around and quickly.

In like 2011 we had Fallout 3 and people were playing with only 256 MB of Vram, its only 2015.

Its kinda unreal whats expected out of gaming.

SMIM about X 100 times as many polygons on everyfreakin thing yes it hits the FPS bro.

Too many loose objects from JK's

Too many extra NPC's

It all takes a toll, and there is only so much miracle working that can happen with tweaks.

So what am I trying to say???

What I'm getting at is that sure I could get a higher FPS, but....I would have to consider pulling out textures which actually if I was hard up for an ENB might not be that bad.  See I don't know about you but it seems to me that a lot of people fail to notice that the texture quality gets washed out and muted by ENB effects.  In other words there is no real point in having really having HD textures when seriously using an ENB.

I certainly would steer away from more NPC's and more clutter as in the case of something like a JK mod.

SMIM, more stuff just got seriously complicated when you toss in even a performance ENB.

COT weather?

Have you seen how dark ENB's usually are at night?

ELFX....uh have you seen how dark shadows are with an ENB?

Seriously if your tight on Computer Resources and you want an ENB you gotta be real about your mod addiction expectations.

Have you even tried ENB without any mods or HD texture packs?

ENB isn't something you should install mid game with a mods list the length of an Army Barracks Grocery List.  Believe me I've seen some lists that go on and on, its like they want me to wave a magic wand that says Oh I know change this number to this number blam instant 90FPS.

You should be installing it and trying it out right out of the chute without mods after you've optimized.  The thing about a real enb is its too be expected to soak the lions share of your resources.

Its going to be out of reach for many modders for some time to come.

Sorry we didn't have computer classes beyond typing when I went to school.  My college level class for computers only covered pagemaker for 2 weeks.

Figuring out a good pagelayout just was not really covered and I never took the time to learn it after the fact.

The reality is that making mods and modding take a whole lot of time and that's where I'd rather spend my free time.

Set this to false

ExpandSystemMemoryX64=

As i had it on true (figured from the name would be a good thing)

Set this to true (was on false as i figured i have 16GB of RAM so it would help)

ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=

Played for about 3 hours last night and no CTD anymore

Thanks for the advice

you can use the spoiler tags in the in the options looks like a bubble with an exclamation point in it, also I have to also mention to people who like to play in windowed mode that the game can't properly apply gamma to the game therefore there is none.

Unofficial Skyrim Patch

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19/?

Its been my experience more often than not that many people asking for help for crashing are in fact not using this community fix or have installed it after having started the game.

This is really important to understand START A NEW GAME after having installed this.

There are some really important things to know for one these are hugely game changing and though you will or should never actually notice these changes they in fact change around 10's or thousands of things.

Importantly they fix bugy scripts, those scripts if already present in your game well installing this after the fact of a game is really not ever a best practice.  For one you just tried to force a script to now behave differently in an environment where it was already present in the game.  It's not like we can go into the game rip out Bethsada Scripts and install fixed ones and hope everything is honky dory.

2ndly This fixes borked quests, unless you have already started said quest then your boned

3rd...Maybe its just me but I do notice when the actual landscape itself has breaks or spots or perhaps that mountain right there is actually hovering above the ground in some spots....Yup I have no idea how those went unnoticed but the bulk of the fixes done fixed crap that wasn't connected together like it should.  Not just landscapes but doors, floating boxes/barrels/chests and all kinds of stuff just a little too numerous too list.

I shouldn't have to say this but, I will say it again you done shoulda installed these first man.

Memory Fix Part 2

Its important to make sure this is actually working

Important Notice

It may not be working at all!

With SKSE 1.7.2 alpha release test version, it would appear that end-users are reporting that it is in fact not working.

However there is a work around.

USE the old way, SSME

How to test and tweak the Memory Fix

Uh?? This important?

Yup,

According to Sheson himself the memory fix actually takes memory from other Skyrim Processes.

Say What?

Yes, you don't want to dedicate more than you need to this fix.

Its like this you will have dedicated a specific allotment of memory to cell load functions this handles cells, objects, and most importantly all those npc's running around.  If you use the popular 768 memory block one, you may actually have a whole crap ton of memory sitting around doing exactly nothing.

Use Sheson's Memory Block Log to determine exactly how much Memory you need to put in the blocks.

Find it here, also there are instructions from the man himself.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50471/?

According to Sheson, the guy that figured all this out.

You do not need more Memory than your blocks will use,

If there is memory unused dedicated to the blocks its doing nothing to help your game.

In fact unused blocks memory is wasted memory that would have been assigned to other tasks and in fact you may experience issues such as crashes, lag, and stutter.

With the Memory Block Log you can determine exactly how much memory you need and also if it is in fact actually applying the memory patch!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Example,

I myself just took some time to find out how much memory I needed allotted for my heavily modded game.

I ran the memory block log, what I found out was the patch didn't even work.  In fact a lot of crashes I had was because I was capping Block 1.

I then figured out it was due to using SKSE 1.7.2

I then applied the SSME old patch method.

Memory Block Log reported that I was using 314 Memory stable in block one.

So in fact there was no need for me to use the popular amount of 768 for block on or the 512 either.

In fact I could drop that down to 368ish mem and be better for it.

Point in fact do not allocate memory that goes unused to these blocks.

I saw a list of patch changes that were really sorta minor.

It's not that an x64 version is available. Do you remember the old 4gb patch where it changed the marker to allow for 4gb+ of RAM to be used? BASICALLY what Bethesda did with the .exe file. There's not really a difference in an x86 and x64 .exe, except a few markers are changed.

Your mistaken its not 4GB its actually 3.1

We all know about that.

Also these tweaks are entirely relavent, your coming onto the thread and saying it like that is kinda crazy.

We're talking about sworn by stuff here and your talking like nope recent patch makes Skyrim awesome without em.

Going to want to read up this guide of yours.  I mean really people want a magic bullet a do "One Thing Switch" get 60 fps no matter what but it simply doesn't exist.

Modding a game like this is a ton of work, we're talking like not an evening worth to have what I have now in game.  Like more like weeks of evenings.

Anyway Im getting back to re-merging some files.

The problem with Skyrim and many end-users.

Grass.

? Grass you say, man now I know your on crack.  Phst he says mother Fn grass is the problem.

Think about it you go to an exterior cell there is tons upon tons of animated grass, shubs, and tree's.

Every one of those is in fact animated this is costing you big time even if you don't want to believe me.

Here is a simple tweak to test this out, its easy, quick, and just as easy to revert.

Open your Skyrim.ini file.

Find [Grass]

If its not there add that in.

Then find or add the following

[Grass]

imingrasssize = 120 ; This is what I'm getting to here

Lower values increase the amount of grass ( the number is the spacing between grass shrubs higher number more spacing and less grass )

At about 120 you will have half as much grass as the default game, and you should have an appreciable increase in frame rates outside.  If you have not done this tweak and your having trouble getting consistent frame rates around 50 and above this is something that you need to consider doing before your running around downloading apps and other crazy snake oil methods to increase fps.

This tweak is safe and wont run the risk of harming your game.

Don't like it? Just remove the line or set the number back to 60.

I can promise you this.  If your runnin low FPS your game isn't stable and you should expect crashes as a normal part of gameplay.

Hialgo Boost

So what if I were to tell you that there is a program that can remove your stutter problem, enhance performance, and responsiveness well above and beyond.

Snake Oil??

Well no, this indeed does all of that.

There are some tradeoffs but?

Ah the tradeoffs I knew it!!

----------------------------------

Alright lets consider this even say if your having high frames per second most of your gameplay there are going to still be times for some of us when we dip down below an ideal FPS.

For instance I find that I have very high frames moving forward pretty much almost everywhere and including some problem spots but when I turn the character in say JK's Riverwood with SMIM, Water Mod, Etc etc mod that is to make things pretty well guess what....

The FPS just plummits in that spot and then well now there is stutter.

So whats Hialgo Boost going to do about that, well.  HB will take some of our possible top fps away, a reserve but what you get in return is that the Screen Resolution will Drop by as much as 1/2.

Now sure that's pretty damn jarring yup....But consider whats more jarring pushing above 50 FPS and then you turn FPS can drop hard like down to 20 this can cause stutter.

With HB the moment you turn your screen the Resolution halfs and your FPS will double or even be 5 fold as high as normal!  So no stuttering possible.

Considering that this would mean that when the real action hits the game doesn't slow down, well I'd say this really is an interesting trade off for those of us that feel we need great performance while we play the actual game.

HB also can be further configured and more importantly you can shut it off when in the game, so if your not in a problem spot and rather your hardware handle things on its own to avoid the sudden Resolution Drops well guess what its tied to a button....So its something you can turn on and off!!!

You can also configure HB's Resolution Drop!

Which means if say the Standard 1/2 drop is too much or not as needed you could configure it to say drop down only by a 1/3 or 1/4 at its max....So the Res Drop would not be as jarring.

So this is like a new tool, and it can be present at the flick of a button for when you decide you need it.

I'd say that makes it pretty bad ass.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/15123/?

If using ENB Boost use Enb binaries .236

To get it set up with ENB, you just need that note that if your FPS can still get quite high as is very likely to happen with computers with a high end CPU and also considering Interiors.

You will need to make some further edits to your ENB settings.  Such as clamping your FPS to 60, as it is Skyrim Game Engine cannot handle more than 60 without some issues cropping up.

Hialgo Boost is an awesome tool, but it's a PITA to get working with ENB properly. I'd cover that, too, if I were you :)

Actually its not even a hassle anymore.

It literally is plug and play.

But

With an ENB uh there is something that has to be done.

See if your FPS shoots too much over 60FPS with the Skyrim Engine you will get some visual errors and this is using ENB Boost in conjunction.

For now I took the lazy ass route which is actually costing me about 2 FPS, I used the Clamp FPS option in ENBlocal.ini cause it was just too easy.

There are some specific tweaks that will totally end the visual issue for these two working together it involves editing some visual lines, I haven't spent enough time looking at it.

But yes you can have it running immediately with like no extra hook ups required.

I will probably look at how to make the min drop in Screen Resolution like 1/4 of the max cause I really don't need 600 FPS when I turn ><

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also I was going to cover another modification that Im testing out in conjunction with this.

I cant believe its not ENB.

Its a SweetFX package that is not an ENB.

Literally it gives some nice graphic accents but it does come at a slight FPS hit, of about 1-5 FPS.....Easy to install and doesn't hit as hard as an ENB....Good option for people that are not packing a High End graphics card but really want to tweak out the scenes.

Still though Im really liking Vanilla with Texture Packs and COT which is certainly possible to have running nicely.

More on that later.

More than likely this sort of mod will help on a computer that has quite a good gaming processor but not a very good gaming card.

For the time being it would be best to have a look at it yourself because the author explains it very well.

Note this mod will work on other games there is even a warning about using it in online gaming.  haha I can only imagine how much of an advantage it would be to suddenly have higher FPS when doing online tournaments.

Alright so using Hialgo Boost, I have found that I don't always need it.

Thing is that it does do some really interesting things that do tend to help.

For instance when starting a game or loading a game :D it loads much faster, when you have forced 50% screen resolution!

Then I can just shut it off after the loading screen.

I use a lot of mods that add numerous amounts of monsters and more spawn points, add to that I have ASIS running which randomly applies a multiplier to each spawn point.

Throw in some known problem areas scattered around the game and having this tool sitting on standby well its certainly nice to have an accelerate button.

I have been trying to figure out how to adjust the amount of resolution that this will drop but so far I've only managed to get forward movement resolution to only drop down to 75% and only when the FPS dips below 30.  I've also found a pre-rendered frames setting and this sorta bothers me, see Pre-rendered frames is actually work that is allotted to your CPU to render as much as 8 frames before passing those frames off to the Vcard for final processing....In other words its a FPS boost for fast CPUs.

There is quite a dip in actual FPS due to the way resources are reserved for responsiveness.  I don't mind it much I can just turn this off and on in game as the need arises.

----------------------------------------------------------------

When forcing the frame rate limiter in ENBlocal I have noticed a significant drop in FPS, I had done this originally to keep from having issues in interior locations were FPS could shoot well over 60 frames and cause game glitch behaviors like under water sounds and sudden white screen flash.

After having shut off the forced limiter in ENBlocal stable frame rates increased by about 10, and I saw numbers pushing well over 60 again in interior locations.

Going to try to force a limit somewhere while still keeping a high FPS, just haven't found which setting to apply this too if its possible.

Forcing the game to load saves and transition areas Fast!

Alright so I've read around and I've seen people report that their game can take several minutes to load a save or transition to another zone.

This is mostly caused by adding mods that increase textures, polygon counts, and add more objects/actors to a space.  Of course Ugrids increase is also going to hurt here as well and with available mods I highly suggest never changing Ugrids there are just too many better options.

So lets start with something really simple.

If you have already installed Hialgo Boost.

You can Force your screen resolution to 50% this will significantly reduce the time spent on loading screens by itself.

The default key is the middle mouse button, I have changed mine to <

My first time load is effectively finished in under 10 seconds while using this method.

I have some more tricks up my sleeve.

Force fast loads Part 2

This is an extremely easy to add tweak I got off the Nexus, trouble is the guy wants you to download and install an ESP...which no you don't want more ESP's

HOW?

Add this line to your Skyrim.ini File

[interface]

uTicksToWait=64

Presently I'm not sure if there are downsides to doing this and having used it myself I'm certain that it does in fact work.

------------------------------------------------------

The use of this Tweak is however isn't needed when using the above mentioned Hialgi Boost and I'm not certain if it effects gameplay which is something to consider if you apply this.

I have some more tricks up my sleeve so stay tuned.
