Cheyenne is an Error...?

Hi there! So I was playing New Vegas today a bit and returned to GoodSprings only to find Cheyenne is an error. The big red triangle with the exclamation point type of error. I did the "verify integrity of cache" and it came up with two missing files, 78.0KB total I think. Relaunched but still an error. I tried disabling my last two recent mods, still didn't work. Just for the record, I tried disabling ALL my mods (except FalloutNV.esm) and that didn't do anything. I searched on Google and came upon ONE topic ever who had this problem, and that didn't help me at all either. I don't know, my guess is something replaced the file Cheyenne is from? No idea which one it is though, I thought I could've tried replacing that file and seeing which mod it messes with. Load order is below in case something is spotted wrong. Thanks in advance!

I think that its likely you did install a mod that has changed Dogs.

If you tried reinstalling Willow and it didn't fix the issue,

Something you installed has changed the mesh of the dogs in your game.

@Gameplayer

Reinstalling Willow wouldn't do nothing since willow is a follower mod and has nothing to do with Cheyenne which is a vanilla game dog located in the goodsprings bar. Other then her dialog talking about her dead dog and your player being able to get the big guys dog from him there is nothing else dealing with any dogs.

I would say that it might be one of the sexout mods causing it or maybe even the SunnyCompanion mod that caused it. Not sure what all the SunnyCompanion mod changes.

If they try a new game with the mods turned off and if it's not there in a new game then they will know that it is something in that save file that might of gotten broken/corrupted but if it is still there in a new game then they will know that something changed some of the vanilla assets for the game.

When you turned off all the mods did you try starting a new game to see if it was still there or if it was fixed?

It's still there with the new game.

Willow is a human follower, it shouldn't have anything to do with animals.

SunnyCompanion is just a script that allows me to have Sunny as a follower. It's been there for a very long time and didn't break anything, so it's not that. The majority of the mods I've had for a while and the problem happened just today. I'm thinking it's the Katie script since it happened after that, but Katie is also a follower, it wouldn't affect anything. At least it shouldn't.

Well its been a while I thought you meant the dog in Willow mod.

Simply just go here

Fallout New Vegas\Data\meshes\creatures\dog\ The MESH THAT ALTERED YOUR DOG IS HERE.

I get that you must think I don't know what I'm talking about but I do know what I'm talking about.

Here's the dog mesh right from the FNV.BSA

The only thing that will prevent this from working now is if you have a mod that points to another mesh.  Which is very likely if this doesn't work.

If that's the case then your going to want to look at every mod you decided to download that altered, added creatures.  Might have to pop open some ESP's with FNVedit

No I assume everyone replying knows something because they've either had the problem or seen it be fixed somewhere. I just took the responses as a bit aggressive.

Replaced file, same size at 441KB, still the same so I'm assuming a mod points the dog to another mesh file. Any tips on tracking it down or is there an easy way? Since the problem appeared literally out of nowhere, I can't point it at any mods either.

So with all the mods just unchecked the dog is still an error sign.  < This led me to think it was a mesh, now if these are off then it cant be an esp file so we don't need to check those.

There was a dog mesh but you've just replaced it with a default dog.

The mesh paths textures to, textures\creatures\dog\ HERE

Dog.dds and Dog_n.dds

Those are the normal textures that will be in the BSA.

However files unpacked into the Game Folder that follow the correct structure paths will overwrite these on game load.

So lets see if there is a texture replacer for dogs.

And you'll just put them into a backup folder and go see the dog I hope.

Its been a while for me but here's one.

Did you by chance force activate archive invalidation  Off and then On?

After you swapped the mesh and find remove textures added?

I just did, and redoing an archive invalidation seems to have fixed it. Thanks so much!!
