darkevilhum Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick run through on how I do a nif edit to a femalehead.nif. I can do edits to other areas just fine (femalebody/hands/feet etc). As an example, I have piercings in the femalebody_0/1.nifs (nose ring) which work as intended. But obviously when you equip armor they disappear, so I placed the ring trishape in the head.nif aswell, name is set, partition is set to SBP_30_HEAD (I've tried hair also), but nothing ever shows up in game. What am I missing? Any help/suggestions appreciated.
myuhinny Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 SBP_30_HEAD for the item has to be set in both nifs plus any item listings for it in the CK (creation kit) have to be set to the same slot. **But** You never want to use the head slot if it is not a full helmet or your players head will be invisible in game. You need to set it to a different slot like the amulet or tail slot in both the nifs and any spots it's at in the CK.

That makes sense but as it's not part of a mod (no ck listing) and I seem to only have 1 femalehead.nif (I thought that was normal?). I will try setting it to some other slot as you mentioned, I was using the head slot because of how my usual 'additions' for the body get the sbp_body slot same as the body.
Levionte Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I'm not sure you can get this to work without making a CK plugin. I wouldn't mess around with the femalehead.nif in the character assets folder, as it has to go through all the .TRI files for facial expression and racial morphs and all that. If you're talking about adding a nose ring to an NPC, you could try adding it to their NIF in the Facegen folder. If you're talking about adding it to your player character, I'm not sure that approach would work. If it were me, I would save the nose ring as an individual NIF, use it to make an Armor Addon, and attach the Armor Addon to the Skin "Armor Set" for the [Player Race] to use. The Women Of Middle Earth mod on nexus uses this technique to add the Elf Ears to an otherwise normal head if you want an example. I also think it's the same way you add a tail to a beast race. I've attached a screenshot to show what I mean. Or, I suppose you could just make it a piece of armor/jewlery you (un)equip instead of a Skin Set. Or you may prefer to add it as an Extra Head Part attached to the [Race]Head. In any case though, I think your best bet would be through the CK. If you were really hell-bent on not touching the CK, you could always download a mod that adds some equipment (preferably jewlery for slot compatibility) and replace the NIF with your nose ring. And make sure your replacement uses the same slot.
