fizzybutt Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 This game. (Steam link here) I have no words, it's unbelievably beautiful and the story is so well done. I'm stuck in the escape sequence of the Ginso Tree. I had to stop for the night because I was so upset at myself that my reflexes weren't quick enough. (Not gonna give away spoilers!) But holy shit it's awesome. One of the most beautiful games I've seen in a long, long time and more frustrating than anything I've come across in a long, long time. The art style and playstyle remind me of this little browser game I played sometime last year, that had a fox learning things for advantages and puzzles to work out. Can't remember the name and that saddens me. I keep forgetting to take screenshots, but here's a couple. These are little shots of a cinematic sequence, but the entire game looks this beautiful. Using this one as my desktop currently. Anyone else playing it?
Vivi Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Already on my whislist ^^ but the soundtrack is like 10/10 for me.
fizzybutt Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Yus! The soundtrack is absolutely amazing.
germanicus Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 and more frustrating than anything I've come across in a long, long time. Looks good. Thanks for sharing. About the quote: you obviously didn't play any version of football game called PES. Try it first and then we can talk about frustrations.
Killing Joke Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Put it in my wishlist as soon as it was released (sadly not enough time to play it now). Technically speaking, probably the most gorgeous 2D game ever made, it beats Dragon's Crown in this department. The only grudge people I know playing it have is sometimes the lack of visibility of the action, but nothing game breaking.

About the quote: you obviously didn't play any version of football game called PES. Try it first and then we can talk about frustrations. I'm not interested in football, so anything related to that I'd probably find frustrating. But the necessary perfection this game requires for executing moves is brutal. I've only been playing for 3 game hours and my poor little Ori has respawned over 184 times! Thankfully, and infuriatingly, it's very quick so if you need a breather you have to hit the menu or map button if you're in a really tough spot. Like this frickin' escape sequence. I've played games that have difficult mechanics before, but this one kind of sucked you in with the beauty of it, then bashed you over the head and laughed at your tears. I love it. Put it in my wishlist as soon as it was released (sadly not enough time to play it now). Technically speaking, probably the most gorgeous 2D game ever made, it beats Dragon's Crown in this department. The only grudge people I know playing it have is sometimes the lack of visibility of the action, but nothing game breaking. I looked through the negative reviews and the majority of the gripe is how difficult the game is. But I think that's part of the fun. (For the most part) But I can see how a type of person might hate this game simply because of the perfection mechanic. I've seen a couple of complaints about bugs but they aren't consistent and I haven't experienced any. I'm using keyboard and mouse and I don't think it's clunky in the slightest. I feel it's meant to mimic the difficulty of this little guy climbing walls and bouncing over very, very deadly terrain. I do wish that Ori was a little more resilient but maybe that will change with future patches. I find I lag a bit when it gets heavy on the 'things killing you instantly'; but I'm wondering if that's the game purposely slowing down for more allowance because I'm not getting fps lag. Reason behind this thought is sometimes the game makes your character slow down when you get close to a video sequence or when something important needs to be pointed out. When you need to pay attention to which direction something is going so you know what to do next, is a pretty good example. As for visibility, it feels immersive to me. Every now and again you're walking 'behind' something and I find myself tilting in my chair in an attempt to peek around the brush to see if anything is hiding. And sometimes you have a moment of panic when a glowey blob of things is streaking towards you and you don't know if there's a projectile of corruption with your power ups/life cells.
SquallPT Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 My brother is playing at the moment and he has the same opinion, very beautiful but frustrating as hell

Yep this is what I was talking about, projectiles are - once again according to what I've been told - sometimes hard to distinguish from the game background, sorry, my previous statement wasn't accurate. A friend of mine who just finished it told me he died hundreds of times. But he never found Ori... infuriating because the game is not unfair especially if you manage well your save points (apparently one of the game's keys). Like you he got a couple of slowdowns. Thanks for your feedback, definitely confirmed I must get this gem when I can. I just love the kinda Ghibli feeling emanating from this game. First time I saw screenshots, some of them reminded me Mononoke hime and grave of the fireflies...

First time I saw screenshots, some of them reminded me Mononoke hime and grave of the fireflies... Strategic saving is most definitely the key. I'm at the point where I want to save but I still only have 3 cells with which to use so I try to figure out if that particular difficult spot is worth using the save on or not. Admittedly I haven't played today so I still have to get through that first major escape sequence. Someone was actually complaining about how jarringly different the antagonists were from the rest of the game, the sharper, darker colors; and I instead thought it added to the feeling that those things didn't belong there and it was Ori's purpose to bring balance back to the forest. Sort of like the differences of Fern Gully and its antagonist, Hexxus. I thought of the artists that did Secret of Kells. xD Studio Ghibli gives me a different fantastical vibe (but you're right, it's right up there with that magnificent artwork). I'm glad I could help with your decision, just don't blame me when you try to decide between curling up in a ball crying or hunching over your computer in the dark trying to get through some of these obstacles.
...0... Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Is this bit like Trine/Trine 2 played those and liked it had not played side scrollers for very long time but Trine was fun. Every god damn PC game these days need to be played with fucking controller which i hate. I'm not happy about steam either. But with the way it's all going. Not much you can do about it except walk. I've considered it many, many times. And this game doesn't have to be played with controller. I do just fine with keyboard and mouse. From what I understand, the keyboard controls were much more clunky at launch, but they quickly remedied that by switching action controls to mouse. I don't like not having keybinds though. The feels in this one T_T All those feels punch you right in the opening sequence.
artisticc Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Omg, I love this game. For a platform game it gives suprisingly much feels. :< The difficulty curve does go up rapidly, but that is just what makes it fun.

I used to play Fifa a lot when I was younger, and friend of mine made me try PES and wow, it was so hard to play..lol
SweetLittleSister Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 The feels in this one T_T *VERY* Mononoke / Spirited Away. Poor, dear, old No Face apparently didn't make it.
