ZepD Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Because of how terrible the main story is set up in skyrim I really feel left out if I am not playing a nord. The whole dragonborn thing is really killer on non-norn play through. And even a female nord seems off as I really doubt a female would be a "dragon born". As all the users of the voice in game/lore are male? Â I really wish RPG's would cut this "YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE WHO WILL DEFEAT AN ANCIENT EVIL" crap. Â What made the atmosphere in morrowind so good was that no one cared who you were, you felt like you were a part of a large world that did not revolve around you. Which in turn allowed you to make any kind of character and you still fit into that world.
Serithi Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Because of how terrible the main story is set up in skyrim I really feel left out if I am not playing a nord. The whole dragonborn thing is really killer on non-norn play through. And even a female nord seems off as I really doubt a female would be a "dragon born". As all the users of the voice in game/lore are male? You're incorrect about a couple things. Saint Alessia was a Dragonborn, and was of course part of the creation of the Amulet of Kings, a pact with Akatosh no less important than Akatosh's gift of the Dragonborn. Not to mention the LDB can be a woman, and while i absolutely agree the game seems to be somewhat biased towards a male nord, i think if there was meant to be any real issues with a female Dovahkiin then something would've been put in. Â In addition, there's a distinction between someone being able to Shout, and someone being a Dragonborn. Anyone can learn to Shout. The known non-Dragonborn Tongues are male, yes, but literally nothing says women can't learn as well, it's more likely just the male warriors would've been the ones with actual need of it. Especially considering it's a gift from Kyne/Kynareth, who of course is portrayed as a woman. Â Finally, the Septim dynasty of Emperors (and Empresses, yes indeed), despite its bloodlines having wildly diverged by the time the games are set, was still Dragonborn. The very same kind of Dragonborn you are in Skyrim, they just never needed to learn to Shout as the Dragons were keeping a low profile for the most part, it's not until Alduin pops out and rallies them that they start causing issues again and the Voice was needed once more. Â Â I do agree the "YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE" thing is kind of played out in general, though. Having the world exist as its own thing with you just making your way is far better, and far more rewarding, because if you're getting somewhere it's because you're legitimately that good. Look at Dark Souls for example, at first glance it goes with the "Chosen Undead" thing, but as you play and pay attention to stuff you come to realize it's actually a pyramid scheme to weed out all but the one stubborn-ass mofo that gets strong enough to "fufill the prophecy". You're not some special "Chosen Undead", you're just more persistent than the others, and got to where you are because you really are that skilled.
itt1968 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I'd be more inclined to take a Breton because I love short, smart females... Nord's and Orc's seem to be too brutish and unintelligent for all but the simplest conversations, though the Nord's tend to be the most beautiful and I do love a tall blonde, the elves are just butt ugly! the WImperials... well, since I'm mostly a Stormcloak type of guy, they would make good slaves ;P and I don't do scales or fur. Of course their are exceptions to all the races and if you add mods (which we all do), anything can be made beautiful!!!
CovertDemon Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Imperial. Because I'm a romanophile and the VoTE.
phoenixstorm99 Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 For males argonian and altmer For females breton and nord
GodSmack Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 I usually use nord female since its around my playstyle and is the most pleasing to the eye(my opinion) Â 2nd would be Khajit female(male when i want to create a huge Warrior) Â 3rd would be breton female for anything related to magic
KumamonTheWorshiper Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 All vanilla human/elf races, with nord's head shape. Â For custom races, there's only two that i like: Kasumi race from Dead or Alive and PsychoMachina's Elin race.
XJ347 Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 1st Orcimer - Male fighter - Neutral faction (wish I had sexlab back then...)  2nd Altmer - Female spellcaster - Pro Aldamari Dominion thus helped Stormcloaks as part of the master plan!  3rd Redguard - Female sword and board - Pro Empire   I plan to do a non-Dragonborn run eventually, a female breton mage, have never done thieves quests yet surprising, nor the dark brotherhood...
Vintovka98 Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 You can get any skin colour and any head shape for the races so I think all of the humanoid ones are interchangeable (disregarding all lore). For my serious save I choose an Argonian male, and I would call that my preferred race, for SD+/tests I have an Imperial lady. For even wackier/sex-filled playthroughs I have custom race females: a blue ningheim, a purple drow, an extreme pale non-vampire temptress, and a imp red succubus.
