What Are Some Must Have Mods for SKYRIM?

Respectful Lydia. Removes that stupid "I am sworn to carry your burdens" line

I love that line, and especially her delivery of it.

Most of the suggestions are really opinions, of course. You'll have to play around with things to see what you really like. NMM is fine, so don't be afraid to use it.

You absolutely do need SKSE and SKYUI, and I recommend the unofficial patches for Skyrim and all of the DLC's - they each have one. I don't use a lighting mod - they don't really add that much, imho, but clearly others disagree (see the previous paragraph). Point is, I wouldn't consider one a requirement.

No matter what mods you choose, you will always experience a few CTDs. It's just part of modded Skyrim. Hell, it's part of unmodded Skyrim. Just save often.

Yep I saw Gophers Begginers Guide for Modders. I already DL NMM & since I just got my Skrym LE today I'm planning on getting SKSE & FNIS as well as what Ghopher suggested about the HD DLC & unofficial patches & of course SKYui. I actually meant what are ur guy's Favorite mods lol.

But (1) do I download MCM from nexus (2) do I download LoversLab mods with NMM (3) is it okay to rely dependent on BOSS for my load

orders?

~ Thank you stranger(s) (:

You already have mcm capability - there isn't a specific mod called mcm. It's part of skyui.

You will have to download loverslab mods to your computer (I just put them on the desktop) and then import them into your mod manager from there. Both nmm and mo have easy to use functions for doing just that.

Thank you so much, always helpful (:

LOOT also comes packaged with Mod Organizer (which you should be using). On the right pane of MO directly under the "Plugins" tab, just hit "Sort".

Be aware, though, LOOT is NOT infallible. I used it a couple of days ago and my list got three times of screwed up. CTD city. Usually it works well but everybody's load order is different, with different dependencies and different priorities. LOOT's a valuable tool but it does not negate the importance of being educated about what you're loading into your game.

PSA: loot load order is fucked up 90% of times as sarathir explained

so use Loot 1st and then use the EYE-o-meter(manual sorting) to fix it

a good thing is Keeping all if your personal NPC edits on the bottom of the list like seranaholic, bijin warmaidens, beans, EEO, companions by netherwalk and etc., and TURN DEM OFF if you are going to use a skyproc installer, Skyproc installers ends up picking them and ruining your save since they end up recording the npc appearance like if is a overhaul, and you can't edit it sometimes(The infamous, Un-editable and black faced Aela bug comes from there mostly)

if you are good with lydia and not treat her like a pack Brahmin, that line will be replaced with "How can i serve you my thane" line

Just doing a recap:

If you are new to modding - know that there are resources like STEP, MO and so on (Apollodown offers a good read on mod functionality on his nexus page, The makers of Sands of Time link you to their forums with video tutorials on TES5edit, basic and advanced modding...).

Well, know that this stuff is there, but ignore it.

Load up on mods that look nice to you and break your game with them. We all did.

Do this for a while and then start reading up on things. Not too much in one go.

When you think you know what you are doing, load up on mods again and break your game. Again.

From here on out you are in an endless spiral - and rest assured, the guys you are learning from are in that same spiral still.

There are guys out there who know the engine better than anyone at Bethesda and they are still breaking their game.

And never, ever believe a single word on the internet, Especially not from guys who say that they know what's what.

Check things for yourself. Especially what I am writing.

It is part of the love, that these games inspire - you can do anything to them, but nothing will ever work perfectly.

Happy modding

Good lesson right there.

Experience is the best teacher. Having your game constantly CTD will make you scream-at-the-walls furious but wanting to get your mods to work right is what forces you to learn about them. It's fine to get aggravated when your game won't work so long as you keep on trying to figure out how to fix it. Mod authors will tell you in their Installation instructions and Requirements how and where to put their mod. There's a reason for it and you'll learn a lot by asking yourself exactly why they want their mod placed in a certain order.

We learn by doing. Get to know your mods and why they do what they do.

Just for myself, but after years of playing Skyrim:

1) Learn how to use Mod Organizer early. It's tougher than NMM, and less powerful in some ways than Wryebash, but when you're trading a bunch of mods in and out (and you will be at first) it makes fixing broken load orders a breeze. Speaking of which,

2) Learn and love LOOT and Wryebash. Just these three tools will make almost any load order easy to handle once you understand them. You'll probably end up using a few more tools in time (especially TES5Edit), but those will give you a solid base no matter what mods you choose.

3) Google for the STEP Wiki. It looks daunting, but the STEP builds will give you a first rate experience very quickly.

4) Personally, I won't play without Interesting NPCs. There are a bunch of other mods that always stay in my load order as well, but Interesting NPCs adds more and better written and voiced companions and quests than any other single mod. It's a work of genius. Really. STEP will give you ideas of other mods you might want in your build, and so will looking through the Sexlab stuff (Amorous Adventures, Alicia the Pain Slut, and Sexlab Sex Slaves are incredible mods), but Interesting NPCs and top mods in the Quests category on the Nexus will give you the most fun stuff to do.

Oh, and watch Gopher's Skyrim videos. Just the stuff he's reviewed and let's-played will keep you entertained for months.

It's been a while since I played Skyrim, but one obscure mod comes to mind that I will never again play without.

Blocksteal. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/61605/

Having to press the button twice to actually steal items is amazing and makes Skyrim towns so much more enjoyable. No more being attacked by the entire town because you picked up an apple while trying to talk to someone.

Other than that the advice here is excellent. As Old Book said above, I would recommend the STEP Project too. Putting together their mod build will give you invaluable experience in how this all works, there's a forum there that will give you quick feedback if you don't understand anything in the guide, and you can easily put whatever mods you like on top of their build (and you'll be in a much better position to understand what mods you want and what you're doing.)

Odd that no one suggested sex mods when it's what this site is mostly known for. Even fnis is missing.

"MUST HAVE"

Being the keyword here lol, but honestly I can bring up some personal ones I consider on the list but none of them are must have to be able to have a good skyrim experience.

FNIS is pretty necessary.

I'll make sure to add that :)
