Can't equip types of headgear from mods.

So I don't know how this happened, but eventually I found myself unable to equip the veiled Alik'r hoods from Bob's Armory or the helmet-wigs (the wigs you equp when using headgear with a modded hairstyle that keeps your character from looking like they magically turn bald when they put on a hat) from Apachii Skyhair to my character. I can give them to my followers and they will equip them, but I cannot equip them on my own character.

 

I checked to see if an item-slot was occupied by putting all my items in a chest then using the console command: "player.removeallitems" but I still could not equp the wigs or the veiled hoods after doing this. Can anyone tell me what is doing this to my game?

Might be due to Devious Devices, DD items don't work exactly the same way as normal items.

 

Try creating a fresh character and spawn the intended headgear with the console. If it works then, you'll know there's an hidden item your old character has equipped that's causing your issues. I can't recall the name exactly, but there's a console command to check what hidden items are still present on your character after a RemoveAllItems command.

Okay, so I tried that out: Started a new game and consoled up the veiled alik'r hood in the AS:LAL prison room with the Mara statue. Actually managed to put on the hood, then saved the game. Reloaded the save (because when starting a new game some mods require a save to be loaded to finish installing) and got the message that the latest versions of Estrus Chaurus and Devious Devices had intilaized, then the veiled hood automatically unequipped itself and I could no longer equip it.

 

I think it might be one of those two mods causing the problem. I was planning on doing a clean install of the latest Estrus Chaurus update, so I'll find out which one it was when I do that.

 

EDIT: It turns out it was Devious Devices. Apparently the latest version automatically equips something invisible and indetectable in the slot normally used for  the apachii skyhair helmet-wigs when the mod initializes. I'm going to head to DDI's "support topic"-thread to let them know. Thank's for the help.

I've opened Devious Devices mod menu, and under Devious Underneath changed Hidden Slot from "Device Hider+Long Hair" (41) to "Slot 61", than i tried to put Gas Mask from Shiny Catsuits mod and it actually worked! I thnik my char was unable to put mask, because this slot was reserved to DD. I don't now ATM if i broke smth or not. Try this at your own risk. 

Anyway, will be good if it helps someone.

Setting it to slot 61 make it to hide shlongs, men will play sex scenes with their undrpants on. Better disable Devious Underneath completely. Unless of course you know what you're doing.

I tried both disabling Devious Underneath and moving "Device Hider+Long Hair" (41) to "Slot 61" and in both cases got a CTD  save game death. I had been saving a lot so no worries but I seem to have no choice but to consider removing DD and all dependent mods if I want to use modded hats hoods or helmets.

I moved "Device Hider+Long Hair" (41) to "Slot 61 and it fixed my hood problem, also shlongs work fine. I necro this just in case somebody was looking for fix for this problem like i was, currently in april 2nd, 2016, seems to work fine.

If you have DD, just set the device hider to 61, it works.

Do I really need this item hider ? Slot 61 will block my goggles, slot 60 blocks the dwemer exoskeleton and slot 57 blocks my belt pouches. If i need that then i'll have to sacrifice a slot use by something else.

You don't strictly need it, no. What the device hider does is make certain items invisible (like piercings, chastity bras/belts, etc) when you equip armor/clothing that should cover them, in order to avoid devious devices clipping through armor. Since the effect is purely aesthetic, disabling the hider does not break DDi in any way.

  I discovered the same problem with not only the head gear added by a mod, but with some of the vanilla head gear. i tryed switching the objects in slot 41 to 61 as was suggested, but it did not help. so after reviewing my SL mods i discovered i really didn't need DD so just uninstalled it,  Might not be an option for you, but i understand your frustration

problem is between the chair and the screen, as usual

don't use dd, but that something hider in the mcm menu they are talking about, it's probably an armor with sbp 50 (or another, that isn't 32,33 or 37 to not be unequipped by whatever there is in your inventory), that have an armor addon with sbp 32 (to hide body), 33 (to hide glove), 34 (to hide whatever use 34)

 

bet that stuff is for when mod x armor isn't sbp 32, so it doesn't unequipped when you equip dd whatever, that clip with mod x armor, so you mess randomly with sbp in the mcm menu, until you get the one of mod x (to not keep when you equip dd whatever)

also bet that's in the mod page they don't bother reading

Oh that, I solved the issue.

Go to your MCM menu then Devious Devices under Devices Underneath (1). At the first line "Item Hider Slot" change to whatever it is to None (Disabled).
