Nun Wimple port from Oblivion

This is a port of the free to use Oblivion nun wimple modder resource released by Titipoko: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/22388/?

I removed the original cross amulet so players can use whatever religious or secular amulet for lore or cosmetic rationale.

This was the best I could do with my first try at 3ds Max. An expert modder can probably do what I did in ten minutes but it took me almost two weeks.

Note: After version 1.1 default nif is now a more feminine version without the big shoulder pads. This is the one I use personally and why I wanted to do the port in the first place. If you want the wimple for an authority figure the original nif file is still there. Just rename it to nun.nif and you should be good to go. In fact you can use both to create a religious order but you will need to make your own esp and perhaps add new textures.

Issues:

  • There is clipping with outfits and amulet chains but it's a compromise I had to make for amulet compatibility. I guess it is possible to fit a layer of cloth between outfit and amulet without any clipping but I am not going to try.
  • If you look very closely there are some small gaps from some angles but if you are really bothered by it I'd suggest you turn off the computer and go outside smell the roses. Actually, do it now.

Where: It can only be obtained using console: help wimple, and player.additem. No, I am not going to make it craftable because I don't like crafting. It's free to use so do whatever you want with it.

Permission: I am repeating myself but do whatever you want with it, just remember to give credit to original author Titipoko.

Hi!

Good work, thanks for sharing.

To remove the invisible bug, just check this option as the image shows, both _0 and _1 nifs, on each of the 3 NiTriShapes:

Man.. why have you done this...

Now i would have to start convincing Fishburger to make a nun NPC which you would turn into sexslave

Thanks!  Fixed and uploaded the new version.

BTW, I removed the _0 and _01 nifs because I read that hood and helmet only need a single nif.

I actually went looking for a nun outfit for Skyrimll's Dibella Sisters but found none.  Also Lostdaywalker made a Greek/Roman style priestess dress for that mod already.  I stumbled onto Titipoko's modder resource but no one has ported it to Skyrim yet so I figured this is as good a time to learn cloth/armor conversion as ever.  Took me almost two weeks what a experienced modder can probably do in 5 minutes.  Now I can play as Nyte Blayde (I wish Skyrim has a kill move of kicking someone's nuts like in SR3).

Glad you fixed it. :)

About the _0 and _1 nifs, that is true if it covers ONLY the head. If covers the shoulders, could need a bodyslide, but this is more noticeable in the male versions as there is a big difference between the _0 and _1 morph. For the female body, could be less noticeable, just by testing in game you can check the need of _0 and _1.

Keep the good work!

The EASIEST way to fix the clipping on the shoulders for both sexes is to import the wimple nifs and delete the skeletons, clear the parents, delete all of the weights, and then rig it to something similar; like the monk/warlock hoods or the mage college hoods.  For the weights, give the entire mesh a value of one and you could probably do a simple bone weight copy with the same value.

And keep copies of the exported 11/34 user versions.  That way if there is still some clipping you can import the _0 and _1 bodies, delete the skeletons/parents/weights and then import your wimple to do the needed adjustments.  When that is done just delete the body and export the wimple as usual.  It will keep all of the info from your first rig if you don't do anything other than push and pull vertices around.

The problem with my port as I learn is that it needs more than fixing the clipping.  The original has 3 overlapping pieces and the white piece needs to wrap to the shoulders and drape to the front and back like cloth.  It currently does not and why it looks like crap as soon as the wearer is in motion.  The black piece also needs to smooth out as well.  I thought I can do a helmet and got my feet wet by dealing with just the head but this needs much more work of moving lots of stuff around and proper weight painting to do it justice which is way beyond me at this point.

EDIT:

The effects should really be similar to this FO3 mod here:

Both black and white pieces appear like soft cloth here instead of the big rigid block like mine

If you rig it to the skeleton in one of the hood nifs I mentioned and do a straight bone weight copy with the vertice weight as one and bone weight copy value as one that SHOULD make it behave like cloth.

I am barely literate in 3dsMax so most likely I don't know what I talking about below.  I made so many mistakes in my port:

I did the skin wrap using only female head so there was only two bone: head and spine.  The weight however is 1 when I check.  The nun wimple has a white piece that wraps and drapes around the shoulders.  Looking at the import of a hood mod with shoulder wraps, it has several body bones in addition to head and spine.  This explains why mine has problem when shoulders and arms move.  Should I just add female head AND body when I do skin wrap?  This adds a ton of bones and the hood mod has far less.  I know nothing about how to use skeleton properly.

The biggest mistake was something much more fundamental.  When I imported the original mesh, I compensated clipping by enlarging scale instead of carefully moving the vertices to wrap the white piece like a thin piece of cloth formfitting the body.  This is why my nun wimple looks like a block because well, I made it into a big block instead of a thin piece of cloth.  I have been struggling to fit the mesh properly for two days now but every attempt just make the mesh fit worse than before.  I am not making any progress either.

This piece really deserves someone with the proper skills instead of the hack job I did.  Just look at the FO3 pic of a properly fitted nun mesh and look at mine.

Updated to 1.0.  I think this version is good enough as a public release.

Updated to 1.1.  Added a feminine version as default.  See OP for more details.

Updated to 1.2.  Re-draped black veil for a more natural appearance.  Reduced amulet clipping from 1.1.

1.2b - Slightly lower veils.  I like this one better.
