Bodybuilding is for people who live in their body. I do Bodyforging.

Genetics play heavily in how you look.

Don't you dare. Don't you FUCKING dare say that the wrong sense.

Yes, the color of your eyes, the shape of your face, your pilosity, the length of your bones and your height are greatly influenced by genetics.

But there is SO MUCH more you can do something about. There is so much, in the human body, that is only subject to adaptation. Human is all about adaptation, changing to survive, changing to improve. Bodysmithing is all about this. About teaching one's body to improve in a certain way, to make it better.

You just gotta work for it.

And that is why I like being human.

Because nonetheless I can evolve and improve, change so my body will follow my mind and get better. But I also have the will for that. Human is the only species I've seen TRYING to improve. I have never seen an animal drastically lose weight intentionally. I've never seen a fatass cat trying to get better, voluntarily. I've never seen a weak puppy running more than the others to become stronger.

But I've seen humans realize they can be much better, and achieve it.

Anyway, I drifted. My point: You're right in a sense. But only to a certain extent.

Genetics play heavily in how you look. And swimming is the best sport ever.

I disagree kinda.

MMA training is the best cardio workout I've ever gotten, far better than swimming, and because it's high-impact and utilizes all of your muscles it is great for building more functional strength overall as opposed to swimming which I felt primarily built up lat and shoulder strength.

Now obviously it isn't for everyone, whereas swimming is kinda a thing we are born able to do so swimming is going to be the best for people in-general but for those who are capable of it I find a good sparring session to be far more effective.

Granted I am turning into somewhat of a meathead so XD

Personally, I never liked the idea of hitting. Of course, it's effective. A good elbow blow will end more or less every boring conversation. But today, you rarely get to fight. When I was a kid, I wanted to know how to defend myself. But honestly, the only fights I got in, I started them because I wasn't patient, and a bit sensible on certain subjects.

I prefer brawling. That's a sport you can do with you friends, without injuring each other. You can spar in trousers if you want, as soon as you have a somewhat comfortable soil under your feet.

And I gotta admit, I'm pretty good at it. :>

Story time !

When the warm days come, I like spending evenings on the banks of the lake with a friends. And a kind of tradition, with a friend, is brawling in the sand. We do enjoy it, and even if we often hurt each other a bit, we always end up doing 4-5 matches of 2-4 rounds.

Another guy (sort of, it used to be a she, not long ago) wanted to try, once, insisting on competing with me. It lasted 15 seconds and he ended up telling me I was nuts. Didn't like the armlock, I guess.

But like every other domains I'm sorta good in, it's compared to the average. I'm kinda good against that one friend who did Krav Maga for a few years, I'm really better than the other potheads, but when I still did Judo, I really needed a blue belt of my category to be any trouble.

o.o Am I the only one here not in a cutting phase?

I'm forever bulking lol. Gallon of milk a day + meals I am in the 5K calorie range daily and bust ass in the gym. All that intake and I still have nice abs, so I don't see any point in a cut lol.

lol SS+GOMAD

Hell no. 3-day split and I occasionally miss the rest day(s) leading to 6 or 7 day a week lifting. The GOMAD is great because (1) I love milk/chocolate milk and it's a way to make excuses for chugging it (2) all dat proteins and cals (3) it's extremely cheap here because our local UDF, a gas station/convenience store, has it on sale really cheap. Beats any mass gainer powder, and it's 150g protein alone so I can save on protein powders. Mind you, my weight has tapered off at about 185-190 depending on how much is in my tummy at this point so I'm no longer seeing progressive weight gains from the intake but it is clearly still giving me great muscle building gains and strength gains, and I'm busting ass so I have not turned into a fat sack of shit :P

Personally I think SS should be just that- STARTING strength. I began lifting on full body's 7 days a week, which everyone swore was overtraining but I call bullshit on that, and quickly progressed to a split Chest/Tri, Back/Bi, Legs/Shoulders which I've modified the exercises of but mostly stuck with for 2 years or so now, because I hate the idea of hitting things once a week (Fuck that shit).

TL/DR: No, not SS + GOMAD.... 3-Day split + GOMAD lol. Dem abs tho. If they ever start to disappear I might go into a cut lol.

Hey, if it works for you, by all means. I just don't want to deal with constant bloating and sleepines gomad brings to the table. High protein bulk with eggs and meat every day is more than enough to keep my gains alive and kicking.

Also, overdoing SS is discouraged for a reason. I've seen quite a few newbs take bad advice(usually their own) and push themselves too hard, ending up with back problems as a result. Fitness is a marathon, not a sprint.

It doesn't give me either of those side effects O.o Maybe you're somewhat lactose intolerant?

I never did SS because the volume was shit in my opinion. I like my 12 rep range on iso's and any arm movement, and 5-10 on the big 4 compounds, 4 sets for everything and a warmup usually.

If you train your body disproportionately you can essentially tell your genetics to fuck off.

If a guy spends a few months ignoring some areas and only hits his arms, he is going to have some disproportionately big arms and people may think he has genetically bigger arms- incorrect, he just found the workaround.

Synthol and the various anabolic steroid's available also help to effectively shape your body the way you actually want it to look, and in ways that were naturally and genetically impossible.

Thank you Slath, I didn't think of an Exercise Bike or even just a regular Push Bike, I guess put off by the Peddles, but I do know I can get those 'slip your foot in' kinda peddles, which shouldn't put pressure on the ball of my feet...I think I will be investing in a Bike :)...Punching Bags, did those at my last Martial Arts until they closed down, I wouldn't stick, always really hated the Punching Bags lol :)

"Abefore starting to work out, I spent about 6 months doing cardio every day. My mom stumbled upon an exercise bike, so I basically spent 40mins a day on it (just enough time for a Supernatural episode :P). Otherwise, lightly boxing a punching ball can be a good cardio exercise, but you won't get the same stamina out of it."
