TQWorld Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Hey all,  I'm getting some really low FPS while playing a heavily modded Skyrim (I believe mine is classified as 'heavy' but maybe not). I'm sometimes dropping down to 11-18fps at times and going nowhere near 30 (depending on the ENB I'm using). In areas not so busy, I will average around 24-27fps. I know there has to be something I could be doing better to get my FPS cranked up but as of now that solution eludes me.  My load order seems to be very stable and I'm confident with the order in which things are placed (could always do better with another set of eyes on it though, right?). I do not have any CTD or infinite loading screens and I encounter no apparent issues in-game with any mods not working or interfering with other mods.  I know that my preferred resolution is going to be a major hit against the FPS, but the crispness of images at 2560x1600 is delicious. I do fear that I'm going to have to release some of that crispy deliciousness to gain back some FPS. I also realize that having 7 followers with me doesn't help. But really, even with all of that. I'm fairly certain that I should be getting a lot more FPS than I currently get. I've seen videos of others running similar mods and they are showing 60-80fps and these were using much older hardware than what we have today which makes me think I'm doing something wrong somewhere in this endeavor.  My rig: AMD 8350 4.0GHz 256GB SSD 16GB DDR3 1866 MSI GeForce GTX 760 4GB (factory OC) PSU 850w Resolution: 2560x1600 My load order: Skyrim.esm Update.esm Dawnguard.esm Dragonborn.esm HearthFires.esm Unofficial Dawnguard Patch.esp Unofficial Dragonborn Patch.esp Unofficial Hearthfire Patch.esp Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp ApachiiHair.esm ApachiiHairFemales.esm ApachiiHairMales.esm hdtHighHeel.esm RaceCompatibility.esm Falskaar.esm Wyrmstooth.esp Lanterns Of Skyrim - I sometimes use RealVision's Performance version and that really helps and I will jump to high 30/low 40fps but unfortunately it doesn't have the look that I am wanting for gameplay. The same thing can be said for ICBINE 2 - I can get high 40/low 50 fps but doesn't have the looks I want.  Additional things I've done to assist in performance: ENBoost Sheson's Memory Patch I've not tried overclocking either my CPU or my GPU yet.  Any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations? If I forgot to mention any important tidbits, please let me know and I will provide. Â
Guest Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I can suggest a couple of things:  1.) Make sure any form of vsync is shut off in your ENB or Skyrim.ini files and make sure it is handled exclusively by your card.  2.) Play on your resolution no upscaling that is insane for a heavily modded skyrim.  3.) you can change the amount of grass used with SFO by setting your iMinGrassSize = from 20 to 30/40  4.) Make sure you don't use 4k textures for the love of god lol if you have 2k for things such as mountains try 1k  5.) Your skin texture effects most all npcs you can try downscaling the text on that.  6.) ENB: Try turning off DOF and Ambient Occlusion see the difference and see if you like it.  7.) Unpark cpu if you haven't already.  try some of those if I think of anything else i'll let you know by the way I have a GTX 780 TI, Intel i5 3570k

TQWorld Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Hi folks,  Thanks a ton for the responses. My vsync is off in my ini's and I am using the hardware for managing vsync. I'm running 1920x1200 at the moment. I turned off AO. CPUS aren't parked. Set grass to 40. Matched the FadeDist as suggested. Ran texture optimiser (thanks for the extra tip on backing up - did that prior to running even tho it appears to have a built-in backup) Yes, all of my followers are custom. Of the suggestions, DoF and my followers are 2 items I am willing to eat fps over.  All in all with everything together...I gained roughly 8fps.  When I disabled my ENB ingame, I gained back a solid 20-30fps immediately but it was pretty ugly, haha. It got as high as 65fps but wow was that an eye sore.  I think my only options left here are:  1. Do without my ENB and stick with default 2. Drop some of my graphics enhancements 3. Leave my followers  or  4. Deal with it as-is.  I think I'll roll with option 4 and disable the ENB briefly as needed....unless anyone has any other suggestions.  I really do appreciate you guys' time on this.  Here's a screenie from the Performance Monitor.   Â
Guest Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 DOF honestly takes alot of power to run even on my 780 I get noticeable lag, it looks great but its too much with all the script mods I have going my system can't handle it and it is overclocked.
Aydoo Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 In your ENB settings, turn off these lines  EnableSubSurfaceScattering=false EnableAmbientOcclusion=false EnableReflection=false  EnableSupersampling=false  I find disabling these gives the most FPS back for the least removal of effect.  Optimally with an ENB and a heavy setup on you want to be between 30-45 FPS. Don't expect more.
JRCosta Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Since you use a GeForce, maybe you can give a go to NVidia Inspector. I was having some problems with fps drop in some locations and this program really smooth my game play. Read this guide in the STEP forum, make sure you have the latest drivers installed and run the program once, following carefully the instructions.  Good luck!

I did leave one of them because removing it made the characters appear pale.  Since you use a GeForce, maybe you can give a go to NVidia Inspector. yatol Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015   You also stated 'some things are mess up in your game' - can you expand on that more or are you referring to the items you posted afterwards?  dawnguard add things to vampires if there was an error somewhere, it's in the unof skyrim patch and yours remove those things as you load it after dawnguard  dawnguard replace some scripts too, if one need those things to work, it won't work
gvman3670 Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 With custom followers be sure to replace their skeletons if you're using HDT for them. Having the newest skeleton and appropriate body mesh will reduce issues.
TQWorld Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 Thanks for clarifying. Fortunately, I'm running error-free at this point...just wanting to gain back some FPS.
DarkSide744 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I've tried many ENB presets to find the best one, since they can be real computer killers, even though mine isn't the "worst" (FX-6300 processor, Radeon R9 270X, 12 Gb ram). After a lot of trial and error, I found/made the perfect settings, meaning I gained around 10-15 fps while maintaining the visual quality (it won't last long though because I'm a crazy idiot and still keep installing all the HD texture stuffs ). So my suggestion is that you should experiment with different ENBs, one of them will surely be "the one" for you
