Massive CTD issues, help me! Load order / Papyrus included

I'm having very frequent CTDs when outside in Skyrim and can't figure out why - usually, when I quicksave shortly before one of these, that quicksave is completely broken as well and the game will crash as soon as the loading screen is done. 

 

I ran a papyrus log, and I can't for the life of me decipher it. It's massive, all for two minutes of nothing. Here it is, if you dare.

I'm seeing it complain about Submit, Dangerous Nights, and creature nude meshes a lot, but I can't figure out the exact problem. Most of the time this has happened has been before or after engaging in combat with bandits or Stormcloaks in the overworld, but I disabled the mods that added extra spawns (like ERSO plug-ins) and it didn't help.

First of all: What Mod manager are you using? If it's manual installation or NMM, it probably will be a massive challenge to retrace all the overwritten files.

 

- BOSS is outdated, stay with LOOT.

- "slnc" I would interpret as "SexLab Nasty Critters", so the More Nasty Critters mod. Did you forget a requirement, or have you overwritten some files?

- I don't know atm what "crde" stands for, seems to be a sexlab mod with this context. So the chance is quite high, that this mod actually produces the CTDs, but it's not totally sure, because normally the last few messages don't appear in the log anymore (they are cached and written as block in the log).

- doublecheck, that you have all the requirements (load all mods in Tes5Edit at once) AND that you've overwritten the important files in the correct order.

- try to run SaveGame Script Cleaner to clean orphaned scripts (if using MO, plug it in as executable)

- did you use the FNIS Generator and all other programs that potentially came with some of the mods (eg PatchusMaximus for Perkus Maximus, if you had it)?

 

 Normally, if the crash appears directly after the loading screen, it either is a memory issue (so you try to load too much data at once, Skyrim has a weird memory politics ;) ), use the SKSE memory patch

- or it's a script problem, then it's more complicated:

- - Maybe the script itself is bugged, try to update all of your mods

- - or you've uninstalled a mod, that left some scripts, use the Script Cleaner from above

- - or you've overwritten the wrong files. That  one is the most complicated problem source to solve, if you don't have MO, so I only can say, try to rearrange all of your mods so that the requirements get overwritten by the mods, that require them. That mod 1 gets overwritten by a patch of mod 2 (eg SMIM gets overwritten by Tamriel Reloaded's rope patch) ...

 

As last tipp, I only can say: Deactivate all mods (except the unofficial patches ;) ), then start a new game. Once your outside of Helgen (on the road to Riverwood!) start to activate one mod after another (of the ones you wan to use). Play some minutes, save, exit, check the log. If no errors, activate the next, load up the latest save, and so on. Just play anytime some minutes (at least 5), so potential scripts can settle.

I've had trouble with sound mods in the past, FSP is ok I think, but I've had crashes with ambient FX changes before. Its something about the way that Skyrim handles its sound files that makes its super picky.

Outdated, buggy, and bloated. EFF is much better IMO. Violens is better as well.

I use these myself and TBH I think they're the main cause of some of my own CTD. What they do is spawn in x npcs on cell load. Sometimes the game can't handle it and just poops itself.

In short I see about 10 mods that alter leveled lists and no Bashed patch, as well as lots of mods that add scripts, that combined with Sexlab is explosive.

This is highly likely, to be honest. I have several beast-related plugins (Creature Framework, Nasty Critters, BestialityAnimationPack, and BestialityExtras) and I didn't know the proper order to install them in or what to overwrite and what not to. Some help in that regard would be appreciated.

I checked my mods, and I'm not sure what that is either - I am guessing it's either Deviously Helpless or Deviously Enslaved. I got rid of the latter, but maybe there's still traces of it in the save file?

Immersive Sounds isn't on, it needed Dragonborn which I don't have. Could Sounds of Skyrim be causing similar issues?

Considering these issues most often occur around enemy NPCs added by these mods, you're likely right, things just didn't seem conclusive. Is there anything similar that's more stable? I don't like the world being so empty.
 
I'm also a bit clueless when it comes to making a bashed patch...

- Ok, so try to always check the update date. Normally, you can say (with smaller mods), if there was no update for one year, it's definitely outdated and unstable
- So, normally it's best to stay with the least possible amount of mods. While skimming your modlist, I've seen around ten different mods for sound, that is too much.
- So, for sure, it's also your personal taste, but here is a more compact list:
- - For sound, I would say Audio Overhaul for Skyrim overwritten by the Sounds Of Skyrim Mod Series should be enough
- - for scenery, SMIM overwritten by Tamriel Reloaded HD
- - For environment, CoT + Realistic Water 2 (WATER works, too, if you want to stay with that) + Enhanced Lights and FX. Doublecheck the patches!
- - Killmoves, like mentioned by Aydoo, VioLens
- - I don't know much about the NPC mods, But 3dNPC is very populate (but don't use too many, I would suggest you just stay with one mod, that adds NPCs, max. 2)
- - Followers: EFF v4
- - Now, bodies: MNC for creatures (and ONLY that, it already includes anything needed, so remove Nude Creatures, or Creature Features!), SOS or SAM for males, for females, there so many, eg CBBE, UNP, UNPB, CHSBHC
These are some of the better and not that bloated alternatives of your mods.

Still, always doublecheck, that you've got ALL requirements every single mod. And the requirements of the requirements. You got me :D
 
So, for SexLab mds: RP tweaked is relatively unstable, there are TDF or Working Girl as alternatives, though they don't have the passive search. Or you just use the Solicitation plugin of DD Cursed Loot, which hasn't any follower support, but a bit more variety of outcomes.
Helpless and Dangerous Nights are also outdated, I would suggest to remove them.
 
I recognize many scenery overhauls, NPC adds, custom armors and so on in your load order. All of this has impact on your memory, so this also just could be a reason for CTDs. Especially (like Aydoo said), NPC adds build up a lot of memory impact, what can lead to CTDs. Skyrim just can't handle too much load at startup.
Use the SKSE.ini, that I've linked to above, and build a Bashed Patch (the guide is for MO, but the generation and placement is the same, put the bashed patch.esp in your Data folder). And go to a small and not that crowded cell (eg Breezehome) before you save and quit to Desktop. These saves normally can be loaded easier and don't have that many CTDs.
 
After all these these wipes and rearrangements, I would suggest you just start a new game. Or, if you want to be very rigorous, reinstall your whole Skyrim and then build up a base with S.T.E.P..

Thanks a ton, you guys. I'm starting all over - I ditched NMM and I'm completely reinstalling Skyrim - and I'm going to try again with Mod Organizer. I'll get rid of the mods you told me to and get the suggested replacements, and try a bashed patch after, then report back. 

 

Make sure you read up on how to use some of MO's features.  It took some work to pry me away from NMM, but once I figured out how to use it to sort my load order using its tie to LOOT, create profiles,  install/uninstall mods and check for conflicts I will probably never use anything else.

 

I'm having my own issues again at the moment, but they're script related.  I have a base profile that runs without SexLab and it functions flawlessly.  MO lets me set up multiple profiles for different lineups of mods, and without that I'd never be able to untangle this mess :)  Right now, SexLab is kicking my butt but I've gotten it to work in the past so I know I can do it.

Yeah, MO was one of the biggest inventions since the wheel :)

Right now, I have something about 200 mods, 100 for look (so textures, weather, lighting, ...) and bugfixes and 100 for game perversion improvement :D.

So, massive scriptload by all of those SexLab and DD mods, but it works fluently (most of the time). If I have the time, I can play 5 hours at once without a single CTD ;)

 

But it only works, because of MO showing what gets overwritten, so I can rearrange anything simply.
