Skyrim laggy after hardware update please help!

My old system was a laptop amd quad core 1.6ghz with a built in radeon hd 6620 card.

 

I now have an intel 3 4150 4th gen dual core 3.50ghz with a nvidia geforce gtx 730 2gb vram and 8gb system ram. I still have all the same mods i did from my laptop pulled them off of it. And let skyrim detect the new hardware set my stuff to medium and i have 10-15 fps at all times for some reason ky laptop ran at 20-30fps at all time and it was muuuch worse. Should i simply copy my mods to a text and round them back up for an entirely fresh install?

 

Granted my laptop was on win7 and this desktop is on win8 which i found out has its own mouse in game lag and so forth. Still im hoping its something easy to fix.

There is something not right going on then. My desktop is close to your new laptop specs and I ran everything on high and hit 60fps steady all the time.

OP: are you using ENB? If so, what version you have there? I'm going to check out the ENB forums, after I heard that 0.265 had some issues.

Well if other games are having issues then it is a computer issue. What version of windows 8 do you have? Have you checked to make sure windows is seeing your video card and full ram?

i have run dxdiag and it is showing the full vram and system memory there and it is windows 8.1 wish i could just downgrade to win7 but keep all my game data stuff 400~ish gb is hard to transfer from the old laptop to new system.

You updated your graphic card so you need to run the games launcher and open the options (from the launcher) to make sure that the game detects the new hardware, sets it up and saves it to the config.

if you use MO, start the launcher from inside MO.

I did that then launched Skyrim with SKSE but still I lag. Trying both clean no mod files and otherwise.

 

And for some reason enbhost opens up windows of it perhaps this is the issue at hand? since it spams me so badly it unclicks off of everything but itself every 3 seconds for the new window it has opened. should I attempt a clean install of ENB then seasons of skyrim?

What mods do you use? i dont think 9 fps at char creation has anything to do with the computer. heres some really recousrce demanding mods that i use and pull of +60 fps with

im running about 20 more smaller mods. and im pulling of at 60 fps with minor frezze lag (i got too little RAM)

 

My specs are:

• AMD FX 8300 Octa core 3,9 GHz
• AMD Radeon HD 8760 2 GB Virtual Random Acces Memmory (VRAM)
• 8 GB Random acces memory (RAM) DD3R
• DirectX10
• Windows 8,1 64 Bit 

I Know i got more juice then you... but i can promise you that im pulling 4 times the load your game takes... and my stuff aint 4 times faster. so? cheack the directX version. 9 or 10 works best. copy the savegame to a backup folder (anywhere on the pc). then u must do a freash install... if you just moved everything it gives alot less stability. do a fresh intsall. and always install files that have a FOMOD folder with a mod manager. it helps alot. L.O.O.T after every mod you add. otherwise expect some instabillity. L.O.O-T have fixed CMD or whatever its called when it crashes on startup in 92% of the cases ive had. also make shure u gave the ENB the correct amount of VRAM. othervise it couses severe game instabillity.also check for hardware errors. but though it may just be a poor card... that thing aint made to play skyrim. at least not on medium. it will pull of low, not higher. also why did you buy a 730? it needs to be atleast 760 for gaming... why didnt you get a Geforce GTX 660 2 GB? they cost about the same though the 660 will pull of modern games like BF4.

 

Note: you don't have to say that your processor is 4:th gen. you can tell anyways.... the 4 in 4115 means fourth gen.

AH no see I run 189 mods on skyrim. My worse off laptop was running skyrim with 238 mods with constant 25-30 fps even in intense graphic moments.

 

And I'm not seeing your system specs being 4x better than mine.. so 8 cores does not make it have 8*3.9 that 3.9 is what you have in total my system isn't stressed at all by skyrim in the least or by any games now actually. The uh gtx 730 I have has more power than the 660 since it's a lower card on power same amount of vram but less power. Near as I can tell at least. eh it matters little it is leagues better than the laptops built in card that is the main point. I hate shopping at stores and staying in one full of people wanting to kill me over something is not fun. holiday shopping.

 

However last night after playing with some files I noticed that enbhost will start up continuously and not stop launching new enbhost procs I had around 200 of them open before I simply reset the computer to stop that issue I have deleted all of enb and then reinstalled it and made the necessary edits but am iffy on trying it I hate to be disappointed with just more lag from skyrim.

i l know my CPU aint 4 times more powerfull... i even said so... meaning the problem couldnt be Hardware... wich you just confirmed... 200 ENBhosts? you know why this happned? it might help to remove the source. also witch enb are you using?

 

BTW you sure its GTX? i only seem to find a Gt version of it. and that one is a tier lower then the 660. i was only curious becouse they cost about the same and the 660 does take more power but has better specs...its not only a power diffrence. however it is a desktop. if a worse laptop could pull over over 200 mods then i seriously wonder if it was mini mods or if you use huge ones like me

Techincally the laptop has a GT 730M since all laptop video cards have a M after it. A GTX 660 card ranges from 50% more cuda cores to about 20% better in clock speed. But a GT 730M should run Skyrim a lot better than it is.

 

It sounds like you are having issues with your ENB. I would suggest removing your ENB completely and trying the game out. If you see a massive improvement then you have your answer to the problem.

 

But OP I thought you said you was having issues with other games as well. If more than one game is having issues that sounds like a driver, software or hardware issue.

Ah yeah I never said this new rig was a desktop or laptop it is not a laptop it is a desktop. it is a regular 730 but anyways the 660 is roughly 90 more dollars. 169 whereas the 730 was only 69.  and if it makes any difference to you it is a Zotac nvidia gt 730 card not sure if that even makes a difference but the way it is advertised makes it seem that way. 

 

No mod profiles and i use textures and weapon addons, some quest mods. Small improvements here and there I do skyrim for some RP stuff.

 

I have the regular mouse stutter issue on FO3 (which I found out win8.1 causes this to be more... flagrant) and FONV just doesn't want to run outside of the normall launcher and starter so no NVSE for it. I've had alot of issues with FONV and am thinking of just removing and redoing it. 

 

Skyrim is different with it's setup I don't remember how I got alot of mods to play so well with each other and I will undoubtedly forget many of them and I like the mods I keep trying to merge or remove some but blegh.

 

I will edit this here soon as to whether removing enb worked or not, First I'll check if reinstalling it has done anything for it.

Ah you mentioned a laptop in your OP and most people that have laptops get new ones when they get one. So I assumed, either way a GT 730 or GT 730M is the same card. It should run your Skyrim better than you are getting from it.

 

Also FONV should run very well, unless it is a windows 8 issue. I know FO3 has problems with Windows 7 and 8. FONV works fine on Windows 7 but it might have issues on Windows 8, I honestly don't know.

 

But it does sound like your ENB might be the issue, as I said. Trying completely removing every trace of it and then running skyrim and seeing what your FPS is. That will tell us a lot if this is a ENB issue or not.

Well win 8.1 has game issues I wanted to reinstall win7 but I don't think I can do it without removing ALL files from the computer which I don't want to lose the games since I have a data allowance of 6gb since I moved. this card can handle DAI on Ultra with no lag save for its lock on 30fps cutscenes so I was getting pissed seeing the games run badly win8 is a likely issue tbh does windows format the harddrive or can it replace an OS without burning down all other games and files?

 

EDIT: Actually ENB is fine after doing a reinstall although it locks up on loading screens and well in general. fps is up to 17 but that is between 12-17 I think win8 doesn't actually support the card I have looking at the nvidia sites stats it seems it only supports on winxp, vista and win7

I know windows can run a repair and reinstall parts of it's self with out losing data, but I have no idea if you can downgrade. Never tried it before so no clue.

 

Yeah like I said your system is plenty good to run modded Skyrim and FONV so any issues you are having if the other games work well is either windows 8 for FONV or I am leaning towards you ENB being screwed up on Skyrim.

Well from how the games have pretty much all lost some fps (Save DAI) I don't think win8 really supports much in the way of games or graphics cards. (a very microsoft thing to do. drop support make people pay more money for less.)

 

I could maybe use compatibility modes  but those have never made a real difference when I've used windows. But it does run a format on the drive i believe, I was thinking I could just make a new partition but with 400gb of data to move and only a 1 tb hdd hrm.

 

But I will try removing enb entirely first.

 

EDIT: Ok I removed ENB and my FPS jumped to 20+ I found an enb removal tool I'll use to make sure it's all gone.

 

EDIT2: Yeah all gone and it keeps at 28-30 fps, haven't stress tested beyond the alduin attack on Helgen but its better than it was. I want to hit 60 at all times. I have the ssme so memory isn't a real issue.

Ok that helped but still that seems low for your PC. What kinds of graphic mods are you using? I mean I use to run Skyrim with some graphic mods on a GTX 260 812mb video card and got 30+ fps.

 

You have all the exact same mods? Cause your new card is about twice as good as your old one it should be running Skyrim a lot better than it is, even after you turned off the ENB.

 

A question does your new computer run at a higher resolution? That could be part of the issue, depending on your old resolution and your new one.

It runs on 1600x900 its the same screen i hooked up to my laptop. ah I increased it some by using firestorm to increase my gpu to 850 any higher and it seems to have issues.

 

Honestly win8 doesn't support this card as well so I assume that has some issue.

 

I've managed to get a dead 30 and it goes as low as 28 but never lower, stress tested it fighting a group of vamps with dawnbreaker blowing up most of them. 

 

I use the book of silence, unp, armonizer, ultimate fire hd with its medium setting, ah immersive armors, weapons from them as well, I run parrallax, static mesh improvement. Oh i use the texture optimizer for 2048.

 

ah and oddly enough oblivion runs at 15fps constant which is even weirder less mods performance enb but it is an old game.

Yeah Oblivion should run a lot better than that. Are you sure you got the latest driver for the card? You might want to google this, cause there is something going on. I really know nothing about windows 8 so I don't really have advice on that. Only thing I can say is that PC should be running Skyrim a lot better than it is.

If you have new hardware , skyrim will auto detect settings.. propably setting everything to ultra in the normal game launcher , i'd suggest you to check those out?

I do not have the latest driver for my graphics card and am downloading it now. It looks like it will take several hours to download. I believe my wifi built in card is terrible and causes lag issues. ah geez maybe i should buy one for this damn thing.

 

akyrim and other games have already detected my card and I have changed all of their settings to medium, at least the ones with mods.

Ok if you don't have the latest driver then that could be the issue, hopefully it is the issue. Several hours to DL a driver? Wow what is your internet speed?

what version of DirectX are you running? If its 11 then skyrim can run bad couse its not build for it. its built for directX 9 but they added compatabillity for 10 later

 

Edit: Did you say several HOURS? what is 10 GB?

 

Edit: 1600x900? is it a projector? you might need to check if its from the projector itself in that case. they are usually capped at 30. and dont shoot me if im wrong but does the GT 730 even have support for that a big screen? im not shure but i belive not
