just to update    LOOT  is  normaly   a BOSS  new version   from  bossV3 to LOOT   but it seams that BOSS is more efficient with Oblivion   and LOOT more with Skyrim .

Changes since BOSSv3 beta 14:
•Name changed from BOSS to LOOT, and version from 3.0.0 to 0.5.0.

i do not use either than i can not give my opignon.

LOOT v0.6.0

WrinklyNinja released this on Jul 5, 2014 · 62 commits to master since this release

Requires Windows Vista or later, Windows XP is no longer supported. The manual install requires 7-zip, to extract the archive.

Just out of curiosity, since I use BOSS for both Oblivion and FNV (but it may be useful information for other players) : are you sure version LOOT v0.6.0 works with Windows XP, or is it me that reads something wrong (either your or WrinklyNinja's instructions) ? Maybe is it "not supported" as "it works but don't count on us" if you have troubles ?

i suupose they do not have any PC with XP anymore !!!

i can not confirme  as i do not have xp .

the probleme is if you install Loot  it will change your Load Order   (means you have to start a new game as it might be buggy after.  You need to concider this possibilitie).

second you need to concider that some people experienced a bad effect with oblivion and loot.

third  you need to concider that you might not get the help needed if there is a installation probleme.

and last   why the hell would you install something that might be a headache  when you have already Boss running and working.

LOOT and BOSS sort differently and that is why every load order help list is done using it because not many use LOOT. I have seen many times where someone was having problems with their game and they said that they used LOOT and after telling them to stop using it and use BOSS instead their problems disappeared. So if a person wants to use LOOT then they are basically on their own as not many are going to have any knowledge on using LOOT just like the people that have problems trying to get a game other then skyrim to work in MO (mod organizer) instead of using the mod manager made for the game.

No worries, just wanted the confirmation that LOOT isn't supported for Windows XP. It never has been to my knowledge.

I do not use LOOT, even if I could. I have to use something similar to LOOT for Morrowind, a tool called <mlox>. I am glad and grateful that it exists, but I much prefer how BOSS handles ordering load orders for Oblivion and FNV. I hear that LOOT reigns without contest over Skyrim, so I'll see when I get to modding that game.

I realize it's just a matter of using different algorithms sorting at different levels, and both should work, but I like to find my mods in the same slots whenever I change my mod list.

Maybe is it just a habit that has grown on me, but I dread to imagine the mess LOOT could create among mods that strongly depend on indexes, like Tamago/Hyioko and probably others, if the user adds/removes mods during a game session.

PS : I also will never use MO.

I use LOOT on XP (version 0.6.1.0) and it works really well, I am running about 60 mods and it gets the load order pretty spot on, other than I have to shift Xeo to the bottom of the load order to avoid the 'googly' eye effect, but everything else runs fine.

Thank you, mizdarby.

So LOOT (version 0.6.1.0) actually works on XP (at least for you), even if it isn't officially supported.

That's good to know for people who may be interested in trying it out.
