Is it ok to make mod compilations?

I have a lot of followers on my blog and I keep getting asked to do compilations. Basically it would just be passing on the mods in a neat package - I would ofc list them all and give credit. I do also see the other side of it, not getting the right deserved recognition for making the mod and being degraded to a mix tape rly. The reason I am asking this is cos many just find modding too intimidating, and wont even consider doing it.

So, is it enough to get credit or do modders want the load statistic on LL and/or Nexus? Are there other concerns? I am not saying I am going to do it, just exploring if it would be possible.

I think a problem may be if one of the mods gets updated. You would have to redo the whole compilation or be stuck on an outdated version.

I guess it depends what you mean by compilation? I assume you mean having a download package which has, for example, 10 mods in it? And the user downloads the file (like a rar) and still has to install all the mods individually? Or do you mean combine them into one data folder the user can install?

I will be honest I can't see a strong positive but that might be I don't understand what you are suggesting. As what IAmTheOneWhoKnocks says, updates can cause an issue. Managing multiple mods in one pack can get messy and upgrading can be messy. Plus how can you support users who have issues? Each mod has its own support thread. How do you support someone who downloaded 10 mods in one pack?

I might not fully understand your suggestion. All I would say is your followers should talk to us. We are happy to help people as long as they are open to that help and read the instructions before hand and make an attempt instead of blindly posting in the threads that something doesn't work. :D

I'm sure some authors would give explicit permission, but for others who don't, it would just be like theft.

Obviously there's no legal way to stop people from distributing others' mods in their name, since they were published for free in the first place - and the copyright system only works for the industry that invented it.

But TBH you should rather spend some time writing a modding guide. Mod authors have invested hundreds or thousands of hours of their lives into making their mods, for no other reward than a "thank you" and the respect for their work. And simply putting their name in a .txt file certainly won't be enough for many of them.

Thanks for the advice guys. Ive written three short guides now and I still get PMs saying "u crap guide nawt work u stupid" and for some reason some ppl just wont believe fnis is required, no matter how bold and big the letters are. It is infuriating :D
