Guest Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 That outfit is wonderful. When I designed my current character Rish, that whole native American vibe was uppermost in my mind as it's always seemed quite an appropriate fit for bosmeri to me. Unfortunately I could never put together a consistent wardrobe that suited it. I really like the look of that body too, you say it's customised UNP? I'm currently using UNPCM as it has a meaty butt and shapelier thighs than UNP but perky and quite petite breast shape. I like the look of this more though, the breast shape is good. Going on a tangent, wouldn't it be awesome if we could literally put outfits together that had this sor of look but exclusively using the bones, tusks and skins harvested from our kills, something like Hunterborn allows us to do with weapons and arrows. I could genuinely play Rish how I imagine her to be.
Resident999 Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 that would be awesome if the crafting required bones from certain animals, leather and leather strips, fangs, tusks. Sadly I lack the skill to make mods. I have all this envisioned armor in my head and no way to express it. If I could, there would be a lot of native American themed male and female armor from my brain to your computer

So neck, wrist, ankle adornments made from shells, bones or leather, feathered head pieces, outfits essentially consisting of stitched leather or bone panels in lots of different configurations. I'd like it to retain the appearance of the look of the source material too, so panels made from deer skin would look appropriately different from those made from cave bear skins, thus adding hugely to customisation potential from mixing and matching different materials. That would be a wonderous mod for us wilderness survival rp types.

Imagine making a necklace where you could change its look based on what type of fangs you put on a string. Imagine for example the middle fan that of perhaps a dragon tooth. then bear, sabre, wolf. so large in the middle to smaller towards the edges. Or bear, wolf bear wolf bear wolf type order. maybe mix in a few feathers. I'm sure something like this would be nearly impossible to create with a mod.
Vaelorian Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 I think it is possible, and there might even be a simple way to do it. For example... You'll need an obscenely large number of nif files (one for each possible combination you want included) and the patience of your average MMO gold-spammer. And someone who can model, texture and weight-paint those things, of course. The simplest way to go about the menus would be a ... What would you like to make? ...... <OBJECT>, of which the first adornment is... ......... Bone ............ <OPTIONS> ......... Tooth ............ <OPTIONS> ......... Shell ............ <OPTIONS> ......... Feather ............ <OPTIONS> Then the second adornment, then third and so on. Coding this should not be very challenging (it's a bunch of message prompts with a few buttons each that link to each other, and in the end have a few removeitem lines and a single additem line). Creating the models will be slightly more difficult; first you need someone to make the base of each ornament (sabre tooth, dragon tooth etc) then move them into each possible position on the equipment piece. Weight-paint as required. Finally, you'll need to compile all of the possible combinations and save them each as a separate mesh. Finally, give each of them a meaningful name, create the item records in the CK, and link the scripts to them. Be sure to have some way to trigger the menu script. There could be a faster and more complex way of achieving this (if you have a function that allows you to create a temporary nif which contains all the chosen options). This would vastly cut down on the amount of tedious work required. But I don't know of such a function for Skyrim. That said, I believe there is a way to have multiple textures available for a single nif. This means that having an item made from the skin of a deer differ from that same item which was made from the skin of a bear should be possible without creating extra nifs for it. I'm not entirely sure, but I think separate item records are still required. Another way of cutting down on the time required is to make only the symmetric models (so wolf bear wolf will be included, but wolf wolf bear will not). This will probably be enough for most people, and will still require a massive amount of time (though significantly less). Yet another way of cutting down on the time required would be to have all the different combinations have the same model, and simply play around with the textures. This will require someone who is incredibly skilled and willing to create absolutely flawless textures for it to look even halfway decent, and even then it wouldn't look as good as 3d models. Note that this way will also have the best performance. Just figured I'll contribute a bit, since I actually like your screenshots. -V
Resident999 Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 I know next to nothing about making mods. But what you say makes it seem easier then I thought it might be for those with the skills. Now to find someone with the skills and the desire to take on the challenge.
