Could Models Resource work with Oblivion?

Short answer: yes, but it probably won't happen for most of the models there.

Long answer: literally anything is possible if you spend the time to create it. The issue is that every single object you wish to port over will require converting to the Oblivion NetImmerse (nif) format, then rigging\adding collision depending on what it is.

That takes a large amount of time.

Now, I've looked at the first few pages and the quality of the models didn't impress me too much; the models appear low poly and low tex to the point where they'd simply look out of place in a highly modded Oblivion game (with 4K resolution textures and all).

If you have a few specific ones in mind, you are still free to ask for them, but keep in mind that unless they're reasonably well made folks might decline simply on the grounds that they won't fit in with the rest of the game.

So, unless you wish to learn how to convert the models yourself, or can talk an experienced modder into doing it for you, I doubt that they'll be ported over.

One thing to note is that, should you wish to learn yourself, Gerra6's rigging tool might be extremely useful to you.

Yes, I've converted a few things from it for XCV (monster hunter series and Alice I think). You'll have to convert the mesh into a format Blender can read so eventually it can be saved as a nif. You'll have to weight paint, convert the texture to dds, assign bone groups/maybe create them for rigging and of course use some oblivion skeleton to make life easy. Bit of work first few meshes then it should come easier.

I haven't tried any static meshes yet, think that's easier.

If you can import the files into it, and if you can export it as a version of NetImmerse that Oblivion will recognize then yes.

I don't use 3dsmax, but I imagine there's some kind of export script lying around. And if not, you can always export it to a format Blender recognizes and export it as nif from there.

You would have to search for tutorials on how to use them for what you need to do. Check youtube there maybe some videos on there that can help and search the internet.

Start with getting the files you want into the 3d program of your choice. That means downloading them, and looking for an import script for their file type (if it's not already built into the program itself).

If you can't find an import script, look for another 3d program that can import the file type, and also export as a file type your 3d program can recognize.
