Para Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I feel like backthere about male follower. There are just not enough of them. I tried some follower on Nexus but the most are not updated for a really long time or are simply kind of boring or ugly (like Valfar). And I couldn't find any male follower who can be romanced and married.
Gilibran Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Did'nt Alienslof have a male follower? I know she to dislikes all the female centered mods and and lack.of male oriented ones. She exclusively makes male stuff ( and animal retextures)slofshive.co.uk or something? ( on my way home on my phone and wifi in train sucks. I 'll look up the correct link when i'm home.) Edit: http://www.slofslair.co.uk/news
Para Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Slof has some interesting stuff but it isn't compatible with SoS-body. I still hope that one day someone will convert this: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/21709/? and http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/23850/? and there is even more oblivion stuff for male I would love to have...

Swiftstep Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 To be honest, I'm not sure on that front. I would think it depends on whether the copyright has lapsed on that intellectual property or not. Given video games aren't very old, I doubt any of them would have lapsed yet. But don't quote me on that. It may be more up to the hosting site for the mod if they'd allow a derelict game's assets to be used or not, like Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Thanks again for your reply, even if its bad news. Would be a cool way of avoiding studio recording. Anyhow, what does the community think: would a mod a la "FNIS sexy moves" help with the immersion of a male follower? It seems that this would be far more realistic than a fully voiced NPC.

Problem is: there needs to be a reasonable number of different male walk animations.
Swiftstep Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Nah, it was just an idea on how to achieve something great with much less effort. It wasn't meant to have men shaking their buttocks like crazy. But the idea is kind of... "funny".But, since you're the expert: animations like scratching the butt, coughing, stepping from one foot to the other... gestures. Small things. Like "male idles". Is it generally a big deal to create / add? The very idea is: how to let NPCs make more complex by adding small things. Cause trying to give them more depth by voice recording is far to much effort.Ah, I'm sure an expert modder like yourself will get the idea. I'm being far to vague due to my limited knowledge of the subject.
Vykroft Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Forget my English.Ok woman, I heard you... I actually made a custom male follower based on myself (it took a some of time, because of my very limited Blender skills), but I didn't release it for a very good reason...You see... I'm decently pretty (according to some ladies) 5'10'' muscular 210lbs etc...... but, I'm straight and I will hate to see me (or I should say, the follower that have my face) in awkward situations in every single screenshots here in Loverslab. I't will like, "hey, that's me the one being raped by a troll, nice screenshot buddy", or "I'm the the one sucking that horse dick, look at the quality of that picture, what enb are you using mate?" HELL NOOOOOSo, I didn't release my follower mod because I don't want to became the new gay sex toy of loverslab... no no no. Sorry girl, but no, the fear is to strong... Ok: the resemblance is not so perfect, but you catch my point, no?

Ok: the resemblance is not so perfect, but you catch my point, no? LL is an open-minded place for modders and mod-users to congregate, exchange ideas, and collaborate. As such, there are people here of either gender, various backgrounds and sexualities; this is what distinguishes LL from other modding communities. I think the most important thing to keep in mind when reading the OP is that you have to take everything with a grain of salt. The OP isn't attacking anyone, just simply venting a bit of frustration and that's understandable. Perhaps it was a bit too sarcastic, but I think there's a worthwhile message underneath it all. Also... no offense, but if you didn't have a plan to distribute or share this follower mod of yours, then why bother bring it up?
Vykroft Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 C'mon everyone have at least something to share and something not too. In every single game I play I tried to make the character similar to myself, is doesn't matter if is a RPG, an MMO or wherever, I just want to think that the hero (or the villain) of the history is me. That is probably the reason why this kind of game usually have a character creation option, because you decide what to play, or what do you want to be in this hypothetical world. Is not a crime to make a toon like you, and is not a crime to keep it from yourself. No offence. Have peace... And I understand de sarcasm, that maybe the reason why I respond the post with a joke about myself...
blueballbob Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Someone should make a Nazeem follower for the ladies. Am I right?
allfather123 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I would like to support this argument as well. Sure I preffer the ladies following me, but you know, it gets tiresome sometimes. Skyrim, sometimes, should be more 'vikingish'. You know, manly, sexist, mead drinkers, barbaric dudes. More drunk brawling and boasting. Cute followers are great, Sofia is great, Vilja was great, Arissa is great, even that Dunmer baker that loved sweet rolls was great. But meh. I grew tired of them all. As a gamer, I regret almost everyday that I made a different career choice other than working with programming, 3d modeling, animating and so on. But unfortunately I work lots and lots, and I barely have time to play games in my routine. Learning how to do those stuff would be even worse. So sadly I can't do modding on my own, and that being said, I never complain about any effort modders have to make my gaming experience better. I actually have to thank you all lots and lots. That being said, all I can do is feedback you guys.
backthere Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 I think rather than argue with people who don't seem to understand my choice of verbiage as an expression of frustration instead of an outright demand I'll simply say that its nice that modders do so many things. See I can mod, I just can't make a male follower with a personality....I have "man meat" they're very pretty boys, don't get me wrong, but I think you can only hear "I'm still here..." and "We've stopped..." so many times before you just want to leave them in a ditch somewhere. The issue is really that we have so many talented men in the modding community, just so few outstanding male followers. Even when it comes to basic male companions, if you search the Nexus follower section you'll be lucky to find one male per page. Inigo and Atvir Dres are the only two stand out characters amongst a whole sea of veritable beauties with all the digital booty a man (or woman) could ever want. Inigo is good, but also very purple and, extremely furry. Not a horrible thing but not LTR material. Atvir Dres kind of strikes me as all the things about the Dunmer that make the Dunmer unattractive as a TES race entirely. I don't know, perhaps I'll do this myself, I'll just have to find a voice modulator that doesn't sound like a robot or something. Anyways its just sad, whether you like girls or boys, quality should always be important and the value of a well designed male companion like Niner from FONV would be kind of amazing right now. At least in my opinion.
Vykroft Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Well is simple, making a character with a custom boy, very polished in ECE or showracemenu is pretty easy. But to create the custom dialogues and of course to record de voice is not an easy task, as others already said before. Look at the females, only Sofia, Vilja (and Selen Kate in the future) have custom voices, and for the modders it took lot of time to achieve that. So is not only a problem with man, woman characters leak personality in most of the cases, with a few exceptions, and they are just pretty faces and "meat" for SexLab. I can make a few male characters if you want, but besides of the baby face, mature or macho looking, that's is the only thing I can do for now. And also, think that, unlike females, we don't have the same availability of male bodies, textures and animations. Basically, we don't have the same tools, only the woman characters are "blessed" with so many options. I don't have time for recording voices and advance scripting, sorry, currently I'm modding in CryEngine, and I don't think that I'll spend much more time in Creation Engine, but well... I'll see what I can do
Swiftstep Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 This subject of "boring followers" really keeps me thinking. What shall we do to make a heap of pixels more lifelike. We already spoke about voice recording and it's difficulties. Motion capture and new animations created from scratch also mean a large effort for a modification that might not be worth it because it may result in just another follower (that get's boring after x hours of playing). Then I remembered a moment from TES: Oblivion that really was a brand new experience for me (as "veteran gamer"). If you don't mind, then let me put in spoilers. The thieves guild and the secret of the gray fox -> Nocturnals cursed mask. The mask let's everyone forget who is wearing it - the wearer will always been unknown to every one else. So when the NPC gray fox explains the hero / player the concept of the mask by saying "nobody will remember you once you wear the mask; I just told you my name three times but you already forgot" the game fools the player by taking him his true advantage over any NPC: knowledge of what is most likely to happen. In short, without spoiling your gaming adventure: the immersive follower needs to act different from what the player is expecting. It doesn't need a big mod to achieve that. There is much voice recording already in the game that most follower-mods don't use.If you ask me, a follower and its relationship to the player shouldn't be calculated by a equation, but by quest progress and / or shared experience. If you just hired a mercenary, why would he follow you blindly into death. Give followers their own personality: give them a choice. There are mods like "when vampires attack" etc. - why not let a follower surprise the player by fleeing from battle. Or refusing to do something (or stealing, cheating, lying.. etc.). That would be completely new to the follower concept of the game. It also could use large parts of features already implemented in the vanilla game. Of course, there are limits to everything. But in my humble opinion there is only one realistic way to expand the follower-system. And that is by giving them features they never had. Yes, that would take a large amount of creativity and ideas. But those things only cost time. And since we are talking about a game, time shouldn't be the limiting factor. Unfortunately I seem to fail in expressing what I am trying to tell you in a short and meaningful way, dear reader. Please forgive me; I'm doing my best here. Please take the time to think about what I am trying to say. This idea is tickling my nerves and I can't wait to share it with this forum.
throwawayaccountz Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) Interesting NPC's is alright but they lack the depth of say Sofia. I mean seriously guys, this is your chance to be Romeo/Batman....why no interesting men? That's not true, I'd say Rumarin and Valgus from Interesting NPCs have more lines/depth/content than Sofia atm, and are involved in a few quests, including the 7-part main questline. Valgus is more of a suave, ladykiller type. Rumarin is the comic, dude is so popular he is fan art in Japan. Edited August 23, 2014 by throwawayaccountz
Para Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Never tried interesting NPC because it adds so many NPCs. Maybe I should try... There was a mod follower for oblivion where pc wakes up with a hangover one day and finds out that she had sex with him while drunken. Something like this would be great, some interesting quests, a follower that follows you not because of being payed but because he want something from you.
