Armbinder doesn't work on followers, only me.

I have some issues with the devious devices equipment.

Armbinder, cuffs and gags work perfectly on my player character, but not on npcs.

My issues are these:

1. NPCs and followers can wear armbinders. However, the bound animation plays only before npc makes a random idle animation and/or sprints.

The idle bound animation (hands behind back) gets overriden whenever the npc makes a random idle animation-

2. Armbinder-wearing npc will stop playing bound animation and their hands are invisible. (but they are still wearing the armbinder)

3. Npcs with armbinder are not actually bound. They can attack and do whatever they want (with their semi-invisible hands)

4. Gags dont gag npcs.

How do I fix this? Thanks in advance!

Am I assuming correct that you're running Zaz Animation Pack?

If so, none of that functionality is added. The point of Zap is to be lightweight and not disturb other mods (and players using the pose commands).

That is also why items are named silly things like "zbf Cuffs Rope". It makes it a lot easier to find from the console, but is of course completely dysfunctional if used in a mod.

It's becoming increasingly clear that I'll have to create some kind of mod to place these items in the world and make them work as expected. Not sure when/how I'll get time to do that, but I think I know at least part of what needs to be done .....

Thank you for response.

Yes, I have Zaz animation pack, devious devices (assets + integration), sexlab framework + aroused, FNIS generated and BOSS.

Just wanted to make sure if its normal that it doesn't work properly for npcs, only the player character.

Devious Devices Integration supports armbinders (and other effects) on npcs, but it is disabled by default and you will have to enable it in the menu. Even then, other mods that effect NPC animations can override this, leading to oddnesses.  (probably why is disabled)

I think this information would be very helpful if included in ZaZ Animation sticky.  I had the same problem as OP but found the answer after searching through ZaZ Animation support thread.  The problem is that thread is now over 100 pages and mods using ZaZ just assume people should know that ZaZ does not work on NPC.

Well, yes and no. Mods such as Slaverun, Hydragirls (can't recall the name, adds slave trains across Skyrim) do it, and Prison Overhaul work just fine with npcs. (PO does things slightly differently, though.)

The underlying problem is that you have to choose which one you want to do. For instance, try to equip a Devious Devices armbinder, then play animations through Zap Animation System (MCM). It will immediately clash, and try to revert to the armbinder animation. Ofc, you can turn that off, but ZAP can't turn it off without compiling against DD scripts....

Anyway, this is just a choice you have to make as a modder; do you constantly refresh animations, or do you just do it once? Zap can do both, but for the vanilla items that are meant to show-case the module, I opted for something that allowed posing and playing animations from the console (it was pretty clear that this was what people wanted back them).

So it has to be an integration mod to make Zap items available in Skyrim at large, I think. That will work just fine too, and I can add things like gagged dialogue and so on (that I want to do anyway, at some point).

Though my time is kind of limited at the moment, since I'm also adding new animations and stuff, as well as trying to push for adoption of the new animation system in ZAP. Let's put it this way: I can't promise any release date .....

That said, it's nice to hear that these are wanted features .... the best part of modding is when someone wants to use what you build, ... without that, there would be no incentive to continue. I'll do my best to get this up and running as fast as possible.

It would be nice to see ZaZ Animation be more integrated into the game play because the mod is way underutilized for people who are not screen shooters.  Hydragoron's slave patrol mod is a fun eye candy mod showcasing how ZaZ can improve the playing experience even using only a small portion of what the mod is capable of but it also bugs me that NPC slaves wearing arm cuffs running around free because the animation got interrupted somewhere.

PS: I am still confused on how DD and ZaZ co-exist.

They share keywords, animation data and similar things. DD uses animations from ZAP for instance, it also uses ZAP tags for SexLab animation and so on. Both mods add items and stuff to the game....

DD refreshes animations constantly, for nearby NPC's. The user in this post likely has the Number of Slotted NPC's set to 0.
