Editing armor

First off, I have Nifskope and know very little about it, but just enough to remove tiny bits of armor as long as they are not connected to the entire thing. What I'd like to do, is take this armor from http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/34160/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D34160%26preview%3D&pUp=1 and remove some of the bear cloak on the back. I use the standalone version so its craftable and not replacer.

I opened the cloak in nifskope to see if I can remove it, but the entire armor is one giant piece and I don't know enough about the program to see if theres a way to cut various pieces out. If the entire cloak can be removed thats fine, tho I'd like to keep the bear claws over the shoulder and turn the cloak into a fur lined collar.

This pic here is about where I'd like to cut the cloak off and have it for a furred collar.

Now bear in mind (no pun was intended for that :P) I have zero clue how to use nifskope, I've managed so far with some armor by clicking on a piece I didn't want and hitting remove block to remove it, so if it can be done in nifskope I would kind of need a guide on how to cut it. So mostly, can it be done? I am assuming so because someone took the Stormcloak generals armor and sexied it up.

Oh and heres a front view of the armor. I love it, kinda barbarian like to me.

As far as I know, you can't do something like this with nifskope. You'll have to use a proper 3D editing software such as 3ds Max or blender. This requires you to delete vertices and/or polygons on the cloak, then weld the resulting "stump" seams together to avoid having it look hollow. Unfortunately, this is something you can't do with nifskope alone. :( However, there is option B; you can edit the texture of the mesh and delete the portion of the alpha channel you want to remove. Of course, this requires a bit of GIMP/Paint.Net/Photoshop knowledge, as well as knowing how alpha channel blending works within meshes.

right click on the mesh, node, attach property, nialphaproperty

flag 4844 threshold 128

then you open the texture in paint, remove what you don't want, suppr

and you are done

I was able to follow up to the Flag and threshold part, where abouts are those?

Edit: also I checked the folder for his textures, he has 3 of them, so not sure if he uses the original textures for the stormcloak armor or not. So I don't know >_<
