Strange Loading Saved Game/Starting new game behaviour

So for a while now, I haven't been able to load a saved game after a while of playing through it without CTDing immediately. However, if I start a new game and then load the saved game, it loads successfully. My current playthrough was working as it should have for a while, but now it's doing this too. Anyone have any idea why my game would be behaving this way? As long as I can still access my saved games, this is only an annoyance, but I'd still prefer for things to work normally. If you figure it out, let us know.  Once I started heavily modding skyrim, I've had to do the same.  I'm guessing it has to do with trying to load too many resources at once,  (textures, meshes, scripts, quests completed/in progress, inventory, spawned npcs, cell changes (picked plants, dead creatures, items default positions being changed and having had the physics engine kick on for said items...), followers, etc), resources that don't have to be loaded for a new game or a very early save.  Once the new game is loaded, there's that much less for the game to load when opening a saved game.  My level 55 save is easily 2x+ as big as a new-game save.

 

Granted, this is pure conjecture as I have nothing to base it on.  Seems plausible though.

I upgraded to the newest NMM and I'm not having this issue for now on my current playthrough. I was thinking the same as you dashipper, but if this actually fixed the problem for the long term, I'm really confused as to how it did. Do you use NMM by any chance?

I do and I always have.  I use NMM for my core mods and just started using mod organizer to tailor profiles for character-specific mods.  I still have the same issue with loading saves.  While I don't CTD immediately upon trying to load saves that have more than about an hour of play time, I do CTD before the save actually loads.  I've gotten used to and am content just loading an unplayed save before I load the one I want to play. *shrug*

Could be a weird NMM thing that somehow affected saves, who knows. I'll post back here if this playthrough starts crashing again. If your NMM isn't up to date, maybe updating it would fix the problem for you too. I'll let you know if my saves start going back to being stupid either way if you want. Either way, not a big deal for either of us it seems, just a minor annoying problem.

Nmm has nothing to do with it common issue with mod heavy saves as was allready mentioned. Unless someone does know better its just that's what I've allready been told.

This problem hits me from time to time.

 

I think this is just an overload of resources. Reduce some of your heavy mods, I never use Besesda HighResTexture Pack.

 

Not sure if this is related to the built in memory blocks in the SKSE Alpha, I just got used to loading a new game when that error pops up.

It is a common issue with script heavy / skse mods.

 

Always create a minimal game and load it first to prime the game engine for your actual save game.
