Nepro Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I recently bought Skyrim on the steam summer sale. I dunno anything about the patches, unofficial patches etc. What should I get? I mean mods & patches that make gameplay easier and more enjoyable. I don't want mods that add new content or alter vanilla content. Mods which enhance interface, add hotkeys, improve maps, make inventory easier, fix clipping and etc. would be appreciated. For example in the Oblivion; Dynamic Map, Map Marker Overhaul, Enhanced Hotkeys would be kinds of mods I would be looking in for Skyrim.
myuhinny Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Precache killer is a must if you plan on using hair mods or you will lag/CTD when in character creation when the game tries to load all the hairs up. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/33526/?
DeepBlueFrog Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Your first stop should be to: - install SKSE - get SkyUI and possibly RaceMenu - immersive HUD is a must for me - there are also many maps with roads visible
kevt121 Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 SKSE has become essential for most advanced mods nowadays so that should be installed first. Nexus Mod Manager is essential for me, even if your not using a lot of mods it's good to have easy management over them. BOSS rearranges your load order so no real conflicts happen when mods are trying to load when you open Skyrim. The Unofficial Patches add a TON of bug fixes and is a must have. SkyUI has become one of the more essential mods due to its new Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) which is accessed in game. A lot of mods utilize this menu for the player to configure their mods to their taste. Anything else like lighting mods, armor mods, body mods, or any of the game overhauls like Reqiuem or SkyRe come down to your personal preference.
nutluck Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 My first suggestion is watch Gopher great beginners guide video series. Once you are done watching them you will have a firm grasp of basic modding. If you have any questions after that feel free to ask. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE7DlYarj-DdhDG41roBVJfNCqvO5MmKP
myuhinny Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Almost forgot if you have any of the DLC's or plan on getting any of them you will have to do to them just like you did for oblivion and that is to clean them with TES5Edit as they contain many dirty edits.
