Installing FO3 & TTW on Windows 8.1 Info

I'm currently installing TTW and while it's grinding along just thought I'd put down my experience for any others pondering the idea. It's not a quick thing to install by the looks

 

Running Windows 8.1 with Steam versions FO3 GOTY and NV Ultimate Edition, 1yo Mid level Intel/Nvidia Games Spec PC.

 

First issue was with getting FO3 to run under Windows 8, though from what I've heard unless you want to play FO3 by itself it may not be necessary to have it working, just that the files are there for TTW.

Downloaded the RAR file from TTW site and ran it reading & following the instructions:

First thing I missed was when running the EXE I didn't right click & Run As Administrator

This lead me to a popup screen telling me my NET 4.5 configuration was wrong and I had the choice to ignore & contimue or exit.

 

For some reason I chose exit then went on a merry hour long goose chase trying to find the Microsoft .NET configuration tool to adjust my Administrator settings before working out no such thing exists since before Windows 7.

 

So I searched the TTW forums & reread the instructions and then used the RUN As Administrator and all was good.

 

It takes a while, probably 20 DOS windows popping up as it checks & copies & checks the files in groups such as Meshes, Misc, Sound, Textures, Menu Voices, Voices etc, it's been a hour so far and it's just started doing the FO3 DLC's.

1 hour 20minutes but it probably sat waiting for me to hit enter for a while a few times.

 

Now I see if it works or you never hear from me again

When I try to activate Tale of Two Wastelands in FOMM I get this error:

Ok after some great help from Prideslayer & Jaam I got past this point by creating a new file with Notepad++ (Windows Note should also work) called FOMM.exe.config and dropping it into the same directory as FOMM.exe (GeMM directory)

FOMM seemed to hang for a while instead of the error message but it seems it did the job ok, next step is to try Launching NV now fingers crossed

I usually just recommend dropping TTW files directly into FNV data folder. It's mostly just BSA files, and some others that do no harm even if you uninstall TTW.

Yeah, I could have done that but at least now I know and hopefully someone else will learn.

 

The good news is the Game launched fine on old saves, I did a FNVEdit check and it seems happy too, just need to put a few hours of playtime in to see if everything is cool. I didn't add the optional stuff yet, after some more testing I will.
