Is there a lighting mod to improve outdoor/global lighting?

Unfortunately my computer isn't powerful enough to handle any ENB so to get a half-decent screenshot of my characters I have to stand in front of a light source. If I'm outside and not near a light source my characters, well, they just look like video game characters. I can barely see any texture on them at all.

So is there a mod to improve this outdoor lighting so my characters don't look so pale and ugly?

That looks like an interesting mod but I don't know if it's quite what I was thinking of. My computer was an extreme budget build over 5 years ago, specs are 4GB DDR2 ram, GeForce 9600 GT, Pentium dual core E5200, Win8. I suspect the CPU is the biggest bottleneck.

I'm using a combination of Project Reality and ELFX. My rig's a bit better than yours, but I got no FPS hit whatsoever, and the game looks much more nicer.

Yes i think i know what you mean and yes i was a bit brief in my first reply.
But the subject of performance in -any- game with any kind of specs is endless.
The trouble with "old" machines is, as you said bottleneck between every sub-system disk>memory>cpu>gpu.
But don't worry you can still play  with pretty nice fps -i was playing skyrim in almost same set up like yours when it first got out .
So you can do a "few" things towards expanding your performance first, then add some goods that seem impossible with your set up.
I believe that you're system is a desktop so here we go.

1)Defrag you're disk also you can install steam in a second disk if you have one(in a sdd mayde a 40gd is not that expensive)

2)Unofficial Skyrim Patch a must .

3)Skyrim Project Optimization or hialgo.

4)Colorful Lights - No Shadows - More FPS and Skyrim Performance PLUS

5)Interior and Dungeon Fog Remover

6)Then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeWHUy2osQ8 choose one of this

7)Dynavision

8)Post you're results her on LL

I'm using those plus Dynavision and Imaginator. Those 4 things combined seem to do most of what ENBs do without the big performance hit.

These mods are awesome, thanks guys! I installed everything plus IMAGINATOR and it makes such a massive improvement over vanilla. Not sure if I like the shadow remover mod though. It still leaves blocky shadows on characters in sunlight and removes some shadows that actually look good, like shadows cast on the ground from characters and other objects. Overall though I'm very satisfied with this, so thanks again!

Imaginator even lets you choose the color pallette, saturation, bloom, brightness and some other cool stuff, all on the fly no less.

There is an "I Can't Believe it's NOT and ENB" sweet.fx file on Nexus you could try out. It's made to work in conjunction with those other mods.

Oh yeah, the problem I'm having now is that I can't stop tweaking imaginator. I'll give that a looksee.

I ran across these things myself because my machine is far from powerful and ENBs just sap my performance, sometimes to the point that it looks like a slideshow! :o I don't see any performance loss with these mods, though. At least nothing that would make me remove them because they just make Skyrim look so much better.

And it is kinda' fun to tweak Imaginator to see what you come up with. I use a little Pop Photo Shoot and Nice Overall Enhancement, plus add a little bloom, increase contrast, decrease saturation and turn up the sunlight and sky a little. Those adjustments along with the better lighting and shadows looks really good without going bright and cartoonish.

You should use this Facelight mod or this mod to place artifical light bulbs

Alternatively Claralux is nice. Its maybe not a outdoor lighting but improves vanilla lighting and fixes some too.

Don't use Claralux, unless you want some save bloating ... Use Lanterns of Skyrim instead.

I think what influences outdoor lighting the most is weather, so you should look for weather mods like:

Climates of Tamriel - covers a lot of things but i don't like it; seems bland plus the nights are dim, not dark (like you have sunglasses on)

Realistic Lighting Overhaul - covers indoors and outdoors, has a weather module but its in alpha; mod is stagnating

RCRN - looks amazing, haven't tried the newest version yet though

ELFX is mostly for indoors (meaning it doesn't touch weathers) so you can use it with the mods above, but you should really read the descriptions for the mods you're installing and any incompatibilities.

Avoid old mods, for gods sake don't use claralux. Look when the mod was last updated and read the comments.
