Kill bad guys without penalties [murder count]

Bad guys:
-Bandits
-Marauders
-Conjurers
-Necromancers
-Vampires
-anybody else I didn't mention?

For some reason I always tend to get murder count for killing bad guys in two scenarios:

- one is when the player is in the sneak mode and kill a bad guy

-the other is when the player kills the bad guy who is escaping

You would think it be logical but those bad guys tend to run away when they are on low health and usually I only need one more swing to blow them kingdom come and so I get murder count.

Mods which handle the yield, surrender and fleeing: Vows and Covenants.esp, Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul.esp, LoversAdultYield.esp, kuerteeNPCsYield.esp.

Also Sneak Detected Rehabilitated has bonuses for each assassination which may be reason why killing bad guys in sneak mode gives me murder count.

From SDR.ini file:

; [[ *** Assassination Skillup *** ]]
; ------------------------------------------------------------------
; Gain skillup for successful undetected assassinations.
; There are three options:
; 0 = no skillups (default behavior)
; 1 = increases experience towards next sneak skill level (+ Nehrim EP if Nehrim version)
; 2 = uses Oblivion X.P. system (no xp towards sneak skill, awards Oblivion x.p. to be applied later. Requires Oblivoin X.P. to be installed.)

set sdrQ.pAssassinationSkillup to 1 ; SDR 1 / Obv: 0

; ------------------------------------------------------------------
; [ Experience Gains ]
; ------------------------------------------------------------------
; for sneak skill improvements

set sdrQ.pSkillupMelee to 1.00 ; SDR 1.00
set sdrQ.pSkillupBowStaff to 0.50 ; SDR 0.50

; for Nehrim EP advancement, if using Nehrim version

set sdrQ.pEPMelee to 50 ; SDR: 40
set sdrQ.pEPBowStaff to 25 ; SDR: 20

; for Oblivion X.P., you would get:

set sdrQ.pOXPmodAmountMelee to 40 ; SDR: 40
set sdrQ.pOXPmodAmountBowStaff to 20 ; SDR: 20
; ~
; ------------------------------------------------------------------
; [ Flat award vs. level scaled award ]
; ------------------------------------------------------------------
; A setting of 0 will mean a flat bonus for each successful assassination, regardles sof the level of the target. At higher levels it will become very easy to rise up in Stealth skill just by taking out lower level creatures.
; A setting of 1 will mean a scaled award, depending on the the level difference between the character and the target. For example, if your target is level 5 and you are level 4, you would get (1 * xpBase), where x.p. base is the amount (.75 default for archery) towards your next sneak skill level up.

set sdrQ.pSkillupScaled to 1 ; SDR 1

; With scaling, normally you would not get any points for assassinating anyone at your level or below. However, The following settings gives you an assassination "handicap" that stretches the level difference for which you can gain x.p. The bigger the number, the easier it will be to gain experience through assassinations. At 0 or lower, you can only gain x.p. by assassinating those that are higher levels than you.

set sdrQ.pSkillupHandicapMelee to 3 ; SDR 3
set sdrQ.pSkillupHandicapBowStaff to 1 ; SDR 1
; ~
; ------------------------------------------------------------------
; [ Assassinatin debug messages ]
; ------------------------------------------------------------------
; Show a message on the display when there is a successful assassination.

set sdrQ.msgShowAssasination to 1 ; SDR: 1, 0 disables

; This option will print a message to the console every time damage is dealt out by any character to another.

set sdrQ.dbgDamageDealt to 0 ; SDR: 0, 1 enables

; This option will print a message to the console every time a character is "assassinated" by another.

set sdrQ.dbgAssassination to 1 ; SDR: 0, 1 enables

I found a way for DR 6 and UV 3 to work together by scaling down uv3 damage and other stuff. :D

Probably no easy fix on that one.  Try using Tes4Edit to see what plugins may be messing with kills or bonuses for kills to see if you can hone in on the culprit.  You can also look at those with the CSE and see if there is anything in the scripting that may be forcing this.  Sadly this may be like finding a needle in a giant stack of hay.

Killing a bad guy without sneaking never increases murderer or assault count not unless the evil flagged one start to flee. Then it is a murder count if I killed them. But there should be some way around as I am too slow sometimes to stop whacking them. kuerteeNPCsYield.esp makes the enemies flee when they are losing health. Vows and Covenants.esp makes enemies surrender to you sometimes. The only problem is that if something interferes with them dropping the weapon before forcing me into dialogue mode in that scenario I sometimes whack them... yeah my game reflex is not that great.

I guess both kuerteenNPCsYield and Vows and Covenants unflagg evil faction from the surrendering enemies.

You get only a murder Count ? no bounty ? That is vanilla Oblivion. I remember the time as I played without Mods and played nice guys, never killed NPCs( not even fighting with guards or friendly NPCs ) , only fighting and killing bad NPCs like Bandits.

And I wondered why there are murder Counts in my diary/statistic.

If you sneak and the the Bandit  does not notice you, then you are the aggressor, and you murder him. If he notices you at the last moment and tries to pull his weapon, he is the Aggressor. ( And you get no sneak damage Bonus )

Yes, that's annoying, but a little bit realistic. How do you know the he is a Bandit or member of the MythicDawn ? Just because he looks so or because the display name? Perhaps he is friendly or just a disguised citizens/Spy of the Imperial Army or an Bandit in retirement. :D Perhaps he would have never attacked you. And you kill him just because you do not like his appearance. You  murderer !

Covered "that logic" in my story:

"Did he see us?"

"I don't think so", Wynna said. "He or her seemed relaxed. What kind of people usually wander around here?"

"Some hunt and collect here - like us right now. Bandits and marauders sometimes cross the lake, to prey on them."

I glanced left around the rock: "Back turned at us. Blue robe. Staff. Seems to be sitting."

Looking more closely, i added: "Doesn't look well to do. No hair care for a while. I think that's a bandit."

"Or someone rather poor", Wynna remarked.

I shrugged: "Well, i haven't ever seen a poor caster in IC waterfront. They're beggars, thieves, hunters, fighters, scavengers - often a mix of those."

Then later that day on another encounter:

"Okay, so this is one caster, one ranger, two fighters, and perhaps unknown people sleeping in the three tents. The camp is set up lazily and disorganized. All of their clothes are worn. Their discipline is quite... flexible. Haircuts? What's that? The patrols have obvious weak angles. What the heck are the caster and archer doing? They just sit there, chatting. Do you really want to play the 'they might just be poor'-game again?", i asked.

Wynna sighed: "I wouldn't have thought i'd say this but: I agree."

"Good, because four is a bit of a step up from that lone caster. I don't think we could just approach them, and keep the upper hand."

You see, its a plausible argument, IF this weren't a stereotypical game, in which people behave according to stereotypical memes. There are no "nice people" wandering in Cyrodiil, except of guards (well okay, with certain mods, there will be a handful of nice people wandering around, but even then, they will be a tiny minority".

TL:DR: You can't apply real-world arguments, to a world that isn't real-world at all. So yeah, technically it is murder, but technically the game also normally uses the term murder to imply "bad" and "repercussions".... so, the term "kill count" really would have been more consistent. But then it would have to log ALL kills, including monsters, and regardless of sneaking - because otherwise, it again would make no sense.
