Papyrus Logs Got Heavier...

... and some NPCs got god mode on with SMPC installed ?!

So I've got this SMPC thing I've installed to fix the 'A Night To Remember' Quest bug I had, and it worked, but recently I've spotted my Papyrus logs got heavier (> 12 MB today) and I'm not really sure it's related but it could be as it is the last mod I installed, now I've uninstalled it and my latest Papyrus logs is still > 2 MB, is it normal for a log ? I mean how much would it be on a not-so-buggy game ?

I still have the log if interested.

EDIT - I also have installed Improved Fish BASIC and Fishing In Skyrim recently but it is not supposed to modify anything about NPCs and I'm not sure it would bloat my logs... but maybe it could.

How do I investigate this, please ?

You probably have something causing errors if it is that big. My last log for an hour of playing was 278kb even with some errors and all the debugging info in it. It may be from SMPC as probably changed some properties on scripts to a different object and they won't update and cause errors.

Thanks ! Yeah, I knew it.

How would I know it's because of SMPC and not some other mod ?

When it happened to me I saw a lot of broken properties and errors referencing SMPC, Skyrim and the DLC's. It may be that these properties were no longer needed or were wrong to begin with and scripts / quests were changed to reference the proper things. If they actually changed what a property references then it will cause problems as once a property is set you can't change it.

You may be able to fix these with a program to clean saves of errant script, not really sure as I have not used them before.

Thanks, Veladarius ! This is really helpful ! Well, not that much but at least I do understand why my log is full of crap and what I will have to do to clean this mess.

In /data/SKSE/ you should have a SKSE.ini folder (and if you don't just make one). In it should be these lines....

[General]

ClearInvalidRegistrations=1

Copy and paste these into that SKSE.ini file. It's a rogue script killer from the SKSE team and it should, over a period of time, make the papyrus logs shrink in size as it clears out rogue/orphaned scripts. It doesn't work immediately, though, since it seems to need these to come up before it kills them. This means it could take several hours (many in game days) before it gets everything done. So add it then just continue playing. In a day or two you should see a significant decrease in log size.

I'm using MO, and I installed SKSE with MO, I don't find this file in INI Editor, how am I supposed to do that with MO ?

I use MO, too. SKSE is manually installed and I made a SKSE folder in /data/ then added the SKSE.ini file to that. But in MO's data tab I can still see it (since it reads the Skyrim directory).

How did you add SKSE with MO anyway? It needs to be in the root Skyrim directory to function, doesn't it?

Hah! My bad ! It IS installed manually BUT as it only needs files in the root Skyrim directory to run, there is absolutely nothing related so SKSE in the Data folder. That's why I thought it was installed with MO.

Thanks for the explanations, gvman ! I will try it and give some feedback.

Also, TESedit works wonders, if you learn how to use that you should be able to get rid of some errors. Along with the skse thing mentioned. There is a guide on this forum on getting clean papyrus logs but I dont remember where it is. Well clean for papyrus that is. If I find it I will link it.
