Weird Skyrim Decapitation Bug / Player Death = CTD

So I was playing around with Puppeteer Master mod yesterday seeing what it could do and I accidentally killed myself with a decapitation animation. As soon as the decapitation was supposed to occur however, the game decided to CTD. CTD's are extremely rare for me even on my heavily modded game. While this is by no means game breaking, I would like to fix it now that I have noticed it (Cant have any bugs in my game ). I tested decapitations on other npcs, both male and female and it only CTD's when it happens to me, regardless of gender, race, etc. Any ideas on where I should start looking?

nioverride.dll from Racemenu is known to cause crashes with decapitations.

That would be it right there. Removed NiOverride.dll and it no more crashes. That is really weird because I have never noticed that before, but then again I rarely ever die in skyrim.

After checking : it seems to apply multiple overlays (warpaints/tattoos). So, by removing it (i don't have this problem of CTD on death), you'll loose this ability.

One possible work around, without removing the dll, is to install the Dance of Death mod. It has a toggle in the MCM to make the player immune to killmoves.

I've had the same problem before and also fixed it by removing nioverride.dll. But now I've noticed that removing it disables weapon placement via racemenu (daggers on back hip) so if anyone knows if there is a way to change something in nioverride.ini that might also fix the problem that would be great

in nioverride.ini you can change:

iNumOverlays=3

iSpellOverlays=1

 

to

 

[Overlays/Face]

iNumOverlays=0

iSpellOverlays=0

 

I'm not sure if just one of those needs to be changed or both, I'm lazy when it comes to testing
