[1.6] RimСinema

TL;DR: RimFlix, but with actual video playback and no multi-minute loading hit from your show library.

RimCinema lets you play your own video files and image-sequence "shows" on every Tube, Flatscreen, and Megascreen television in the game.

Key features:
- Play real video files (MP4, WebM, OGV, MOV, AVI, WMV, ASF) directly on in-game TV screens
- Turn folders of images into animated slideshow "shows"
- Everything loads at runtime; point it at a folder with gigabytes of content and it won't add a second to your game's loading time
- Distance-based audio falloff, so the sound fades out as your colonists (or you) walk away from the screen
- Take manual control of any TV with the "Allow Pawn" toggle: pick shows, scrub through videos, pause/play from a player dialog, just like a real remote
- Per-TV-type screen calibration (scale/offset) for Tube, Flatscreen, and Megascreen, so content actually lines up with the screen
- Configurable playback speed cap, volume, power draw, and rotation timing
- Enable/disable individual shows right from the mod settings menu
- Compatible with the classic RimFlix show folder layout; drop in your existing show folders and they just work

How it works:
Point the mod at a folder of videos and/or image-sequence subfolders in the mod settings.
RimCinema scans it recursively; every video file becomes a "video show," every folder of images becomes a "slideshow."
These become available on every TV in your colony automatically.

By default, pawns pick a random show when they sit down to watch TV, and shows rotate automatically.
Want more control? Flip "Allow Pawn" off on a specific TV and a Player button appears; open it to browse, preview, and control playback yourself.

Requirements: Core only, though Ideology and/or Royalty are recommended for full TV compatibility (they add the Flatscreen/Megascreen TV types).

Not getting it to work, recognizes the videos in the folder but doesn't start the actual video and does not progress the slide show beyond the first image.  Did I miss something in the instructions?

Oh, I think I figured out the problem. But still - even when the game isn't paused? Send a screenshot of the player window pls

Thanks, I sent a few screen shots.  And yes,  when not paused, it does not actually play even though it says "now playing" in manual control.

Same problem on my end. It recognizes the files and even gets the length right when previewing them through the player button on the TV, but nothing actually ever plays at all.

It took me a bit to find this forum... but I'd like to say that for me anyways with videos... It won't play them at all, gives an error that it can't play the videos for whatever reason. If it helps any, I am on Arch Linux(Specifically Garuda) so... (Running Native Steam though, so shouldn't be any permissions issues.)

Furthermore, the image slideshow seems to at least work as intended... so that's good at least.image.png.54be9130c51010e19850cd23787694f7.png

^ But yea, that's the error... why it doesn't wanna play I dunno.

Bruh, I'm on arch linux (pure arch) and have the same error, I think that's just linux issue as usual

Yeah... that'd explain why it can't load mp4s on linux... which between that and mov i wanna say, are the most common of the video file types to be used- with webm being close, though not quite as common. If only it weren't for Unity being Unity...

Hey so I got it to work by putting RimFlix in the mod list, loaded right after RimCinema.

It shows controls for both mods, so I think of Flix as a screensaver and Cinema as the actual tv.

is it possible this would work, if the folder with the videos/images is mounted inside the Rimworld or Mods folder, so the game is allowed to access them properly?

Can confirm that actually solved the issue for me as well

Is it possible to allow pawn and player to exist simultaneously? Once I enable Allow Pawn, the playback automatically switches to a RimFlix slideshow.

it switches to a random show

How is it gonna look?
