Starfield Nude Body Mod Frustrations

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

After the recent Free Lanes/Terran Armada update, I figured it's about time to come back to Starfield (once I finish my current playthrough of Fallout 4).  I had about 400 hours in the game before and never even made it through Unity even once, and Shattered Space hadn't even been released yet when I last played.

To that end, I've spent the last week taking a break from the Commonwealth and looking at Starfield mods.  It seems like there's no set of dominant body replacers yet, so I've done a lot of trial and error (mostly error) trying to find a setup that I like.  Maybe this will help summarize choices for other people in the same situation of returning to, or just starting, the game.

Female Bodies

VBB - no morphs, no data for outfits, seems discontinued

ZBB - based on VBB but with some morphs.  I actually really like the shape of this one, but while it does have the morphs, it doesn't have any extra sliders to customize individuals.  Also no morphs for the vanilla clothes.  Not sure if it's still being supported by the author or not???

Milky Way Vixens - just got another update, but the shape of this body is just not for me.  Unfortunate, because it supports a lot of the vanilla and DLC clothing.  Also uses its own skeleton and will require a quick and easy filepath adjustment if using the SF Skeleton mod for a male body

SFF - another with recent updates, but it needs a patch for everything - any mod added clothing or NPC.  Looks like it has a lot of customization, and some of the user photos look spectacular.  Maybe/hopefully once Bodyslide and Outfit Studio are released, or SFF does some space magic,  it will be easy to make this play nice with all content without multiple patches.  This is one I'm tracking

BBL - uses the vanilla body and adds sliders for individual character customization.  Seems to work with all outfits since the bodies are still vanilla.  Works with individual NPCs too if you have something like the NPC Enhancer Gun mod (here or Nexus).  Because it seems to work with everything, this is probably what I'm going to stick with once I start a game for real, unless SFF gets more compatible with stuff (or BS releases and makes it more compatible)

Starqueen Textures - some body mods have their own textures, some don't.  Since I'll likely be using BBL, I'll also be using Starqueen to actually have a nude female body

Male Bodies

Roberts - probably the most widely known, does have morphs and limited support for some vanilla clothing, but has been discontinued by the author.  For me, it's a choice of this one or SlimFit

NovaForm - another discontinued option, not sure if this has any vanilla clothing support or not but the author did make a few clothing options of his own

SlimFit - has morphs and further customization available if you use Chargen.  Has some support for vanilla clothes (I think).  Will be using this or Roberts (probably SlimFit since I like the customization).

EDITED TO ADD:  WELL IT LOOKS LIKE SEX MODS REQUIRE ROBERTS BODY AND WON'T WORK WITH SLIMFIT.  SOMETHING ABOUT HOW THE MORPHS WORK DIFFERENTLY FOR THE TWO OF THEM.  NO DOUBT THAT WILL INFLUENCE SOME PEOPLE'S CHOICES

Even More Frustration

So while I was playing around testing stuff, I had a load order of about 55 plugins.  A lot of that is multiple plugins for the official content, and then a few Creations like Watchtower, Trackers Alliance and the Lyria Companion mods.  On top of that a limited number of mods that I wanted to test out, mainly some NPC customizers.

After I had settled on body mods and started the game, I found that nobody would actually get naked when unequipping their streetwear and spacesuits.  Everyone would be wearing the one piece grey "onesie" bodysuit.  I spent way too many days trying to track that one down, making ini edits, copying texture files from MO2 directly into MyDocuments/MyGames/Starfield/Date/Textures and all sorts of other unnecessary nonsense.  It turned out to be the Star Wars Alien - Player mod, which is a requirement for some NPC replacers I was testing.  At least once I found the problem I discovered a patch to fix that issue available on Nexus.  I just wish I didn't spend almost a week on it.

Anyway, enough of this rant.  Maybe someone will find this summary useful...

So my big pet peeve is flat nipples, i.e. the nipples don't protrude from the breast at all and look as if they're painted on. The only body mods I've found that don't have this issue are SFF and MWV. I actually like the shape of MWV better, as I think it looks more natural, and has less noticeable neck seams, but the downside is there's only one outfit mod (celestial wardrobe) that is compatible with it. SFF has more compatibility with outfit mods (although still limited) but there's an annoying neck seam and it requires an additional FaceGen mod that causes an even more annoying "crinkled face" bug with some NPCs. I'm currently using SFF but there's really no perfect option.

well i am helping ousinus with SF support for Bodyslide and Outfit Studio...

hopefully that should help these modders out with an actually useful body...

That's funny...  I was going through the Clothing category last night and just downloaded all 3 of those - the two jiggle mods and KZ Scraps.  Best part is author recommends BBL and says it needs the SF Skeleton, both of which I already had anyways.

Unfortunately, the mod author of Roberts male body for starfield has deleted it from the Nexus and from what I understand won't be updating it.

That's unfortunate, since it's the only male body that is reported to work with SnuSnuField or Gergei Ebanex because of the morphs.

One of those two, can't remember which now, includes some of the assets from Roberts, but not everything, so it might cause issues, at least visual issues, when animations aren't running.

you just gotta love modders... instead of letting people have their mods to update themselves, instead just hide them and give their users the middle finger xD

Since SnuSnu never worked in my game, I still use an older version of Roberts Male Body, version 0.3, which has the great advantage of having no requirements.

I'm just waiting for things to stabilize a bit more (and for me to have the time!) to go down the path of moding Starfield with adult animations. I think we're much further from the dark days of peak hatred for Starfield, where, as the cherry on top, we learned that the Sex Framework for Starfield would be delayed indefinitely.

The only thing I truly regret is that the VBB mod is abandoned. It would be very convenient if, in addition to some improvements, it also had morphs, so that it could work with KryoZet mods.
