Hopefully this is a "hey stupid, it is right there" but, I need to add an action to one of my scenes, but.........when I right click, there is no way to add a scene, worse, i can;t find a way to cut and paste a duplicate scene.     Can FO4edit do this kind of additive editing?  What else could I use besides CK (because I am not going to update to AE until all the mod authors update, including the ones that have been silent since 2017.    I am going to tag some experts like @JB., @dav42, @izzyknows and @lee3310.

I find the Creation Kit more convenient for editing scenes. I've never used Fo4edit for that.

No expert here!!!!!!!!

Right click on a scene, the top left pane and the menu will give you options to New, Duplicate, Delete and Use info. If you want to add a new scene, click on the scene you want to add "after" it and click duplicate and edit the info or click on New for a blank (start from scratch) scene. Then you can change the ID and Index (position in the quest)

In the scene window you can right click on different parts and get different options like insert new.... yada yada. LOL

I really don't recommend using xEdit to edit scenes or dialogue. It has a tendency to mess up the dialogue and you end up with GENERIC RESPONSE (or something like that) in the subtitles.  Always seems to be on the exit dialogue. Still works, but also still broken.

In your Fallout4 folder you should see EditorTips.txt which has a few keyboard shortcuts for dialogue/scenes.

Spoiler

In Scene View, Ctrl-P adds a new PC Response.
^
In Scene View, Ctrl-D adds a new Dialog Action.
^
In Scene View, Ctrl-R adds a new NPC Response Action.

If you're not in the scene view, if you hold down shift and double left click you can immediately begin editing dialog.

You could just use CK 1.10.162.0 (oldgen CK) and make mods with that for oldgen? Theres also https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/51165?tab=description (the HISTORICAL, NO LONGER SUPPORTED, FORGOTTEN version) to make it a little better (I don't actually know the difference, I had to update my CK with that to get x-cells face-generator thingy to work and started modding after that).

It's a lot better to use the right tool for the job. xEdit to me is just for ease in finding formIDs and getting a basic overview on what the mod has, plus a way to edit basic details like value or weight or damage a little easier due to how it displays things, the thought of using it alone to create any larger mod seems like a challenge-mode for the sake of making it more difficult for yourself.
