justinlee Posted March 4 Posted March 4 what do you all think of this https://www.dexerto.com/sims/the-sims-4-now-sells-fan-made-content-but-ea-pockets-70-of-profits-3328473/
DuoMaxwell003 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 This is already happening with the creator kits that they sell. The only thing that is new is selling it for digital currency (moola).
Oops19 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 If I get it right they get 70% and the creator 30% ... but with enough stupid kids who receive moola from their parents this should generate a good income. While I don't need no sfw cc or sims, there's already too much of it in the game. Kids may be the targets to beg their parents for moola ... 3

In the general creative world, a 30% haul for the creator is actually pretty solid. Not that I'm interested in buying any of this crap, but anyone who says EA is ripping the creators off has never talked to an author or screenwriter or musician or painter or... 2

Agree, Spotify gives less than 1%. 1
Oops19 Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Patreon or buymeadrug take less than 20% fees. For sure the TS4 creators which release CC on Spotify will like the EA store as long as they don't know about Patreon.
RayOhio Posted March 21 Posted March 21 I think we'll see a lot of artists, especially alpha jump on it even from TSR to make the 30%. Very few people want to pay for anything especially on Patreon and when they do they won't become members to pay 20 or so different artists.
MrGrey Posted March 23 Posted March 23 You could do like the author of WW, and keep 3 or 4 websites going, advertise by samples like Wonderful Whims and the free version., and stifle any competition. He puts a lot of work into it and rakes in the money like you wouldn't believe (just do the math on his Patreon page...) Not going to happen with these non-game content recolors and stuff that are on the "Market". Nothing with gameplay because if EA sells it, it has to meet its intended use, so they'd have to refund or fix the mods they sell. It's a business decision, really, for the author of the mod. Mod author's can't legitimately sell it because it's EA's ip. I looked at the products in the Market and the only thing I found that was worth the price was the Kitchen Kit... it's free. You know, if you don't like the Market, don't use it. I bought a ton of stuff from the Sims 3 Store... worlds, roller coasters, game play stuff... nothing like that in the Market. I don't get where folks are angry about it. If you don't like the deal, don't make the deal. Simple as. Life goes on.
