Feels like I'm losing my mind here. Spent most of the afternoon trying to get this working without success. Started with regular Framework. Actors would stand inside each other and not move while audio played. Started a new save, installed Framework+ according to installation steps, removed animloader, and used SLALs with the update packs. Same problem. Uninstalled both frameworks, installed regular framework on a new save. NOW IT'S WORSE! When I start an animation, nothing happens. No "use the bed" request, and I can immediately move around again. Doesn't matter which SLAL pack or individual animation it is, or if I use the animation editor test or magic spell to start. Currently using FrameworkSE 1.63 along with Pandora.

Got error messages from Framework's debugging mode, but I can't make sense of them and looking the lines up got no useful results. Any help would be appreciated, even just a direction to start looking. It's getting the the point where I might have to reinstall EVERYTHING....

"Unable to find valid default animations" comes from ssThreadModel.FilterAnimations when it is not able to find any animations that match the given filters. Test again with something simple like SexLab MatchMaker v9 (20210927).

You also still have something that's overwriting SexLab's files; I do not recognize this "SLAS" that's in these debug messages.

What does Pandora say?

What does your mod manager say?

This is most likely refering to P+ requiring a different animation loader. SLAL as far as I know doesn't work on P+.

Thanks. Here's one for you:

SLAS

I was using SLAS instead of SLAL when I tried P+. I forgot to turn it off after, but did that now and no bueno.

I use matchmaker and animstarter for quick testing.

Pandora is showing no errors. Just the list of animpacks and loading them. MO2 is showing no errors.

I'm not too sure what could be overwiting sexlab. I have the framework dead last in the left pane.

And the SLAS debug messages are gone from the Papyrus log?

This is not a behaviour file issue so whether that works or not is technically irrelevant. For future reference though, Pandora doesn't show issues with FNIS mods, so if you do suspect you have a broken FNIS mod, you need to run FNIS itself to have it pointed out.

The overwrite folder is always last, and technically the "physical" Data directory is last-er still. Load order of files:

  1. Data directory.
  2. Overwrite folder.
  3. Last (bottom) mod in MO2.
  4. ...
  5. First (top) mod in MO2.
  6. BSA archives in plugin load order.

List goes from winner (top) to loser (bottom).

Anyhow, how about some sanity checks then:

  1. What's the Papyrus log looking like from a session where you register animations with SLAL for the first time?
  2. What's the animation count in SL's MCM looking like?

Double-click on it and the info window will pop up and show you the winners and losers.

In the course of getting papyrus going started an automatic update that can't be cancelled, which removed the game EXE and broke MO2. Thanks bethesda. Just giving up and starting over.

Don't scare us like that. You made it sound like another Skyrim update had been pushed out. For those freaking out: the depots haven't been touched since 1170, 17th of January 2024. There's no fire, everything is fine.

I'm guessing you're using the usual method of blocking Steam updates, i.e. setting it to only update on launch. That is unfortunately not enough to block them. Hasn't been for several years in fact.

You can get your previous version back using SteamCMD.

Yeah, that's what happened. I found another way that involves making a certain file read-only. I got the files back using the console, took some time to get past the "cannot find source" bullshit.

At this point I'm just downloading updates versions of everything and starting over.

Making the acf file read-only hasn't worked for years either. The Steam client creates a new file, removes the read-only file and renames the temporary file to get around this.

I'll answer your next questions as well:

Q: "So if you know all this why don't you just tell me which method works so I don't have to keep guessing?"

A: "Every single time I've done that in the past, a patch has been released for Steam a few weeks or a month later with a workaround for my protection. Call me paranoid, but when I started hanging on to my methods, I've not been attacked by Steam."

Q: "That's nice. Thanks for nothing."

A: "Keep a local backup of vanilla Skyrim files and use the protection methods publicly available, like only update on launch and keeping Steam in offline mode. You'll get hit with a random update every now and then, but your backup can restore it. A LZMA2 compressed 1170 is about 11.5 GiB, not too bad by today's standards."

You must be psychic to already know my first question.

Second question would actually be "what are tonight's winning lottery numbers". You helped as best you could, thank you.
