Upon trying to install the Skykids mod posted by en_hawk I have ran into a major issue I tried to get the skykids mods runnings, with all the addons and patches and optional stuff working as well, minus the followers stuff (which I might add on anyway, but its not on now) and I tried my hardest to get it working, from running Boss, to making sure things were in its proper folders. I Might have messed up some where, cause now the game wont even run, I start it up on steam and it gets to the loader and then to the opening movie of the skyrim symble then.....it just huts down very fast. I've realyl tried to get the mods in question to work, but to not avail. From the Boss program it seemed I was missing a few things, like the SK armor swapper, which was not linked at all in en_hawks skykids, page, nor a proper step by step means to get the mods to work. I am not techie genius, but I read the "how to install" thing En posted, but it made no sense to me, cause again I am not really good at this. With ALL that said, I WANT to be at least able to download future mods for skyrim with out bugging my friends about it, and do so in a reletive easier state. I hope some one can help me out
myuhinny Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 1.) One mistake that you are doing is relying on BOSS only! BOSS is not 100% fail safe you can not rely on only it or it will screw your shit up. BOSS only sorts your load order if it knows the mods if there are mods that it doesn't know it will throw them wherever it wants to throw them in your load order. You also need something like wyre bash or TES4Edit by ElminsterAU http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/11536/? Download TES4Edit unzip it run it when it hits a error in your load order it will stop and show you why it stopped fix it close it and repeat running TES4Edit till it no longer hits any errors. CTD (crash to desktop) at logo means you are missing a master needed for one of your mods to run correctly without it you will CTD.

I hope some one can help me out Some required mod is missing maybe. Try running TES5Edit and let it load all your checked mods, it'll probably stop somewhere and display an error, maybe that'll help you find out what happened.

You get it, you extract it in a folder, you run the .exe, it displays a list with all your mods with the ones you're using checked, you press ok, you wait, if it stops at an error message, look at the error message and check which mod is it. More or less. It's either a missing dependency or a dependency that's at the wrong place in your load order (like under the mod that depends on it).

Ya Nexus flat out removed the securty question hint and box. So unless there is an alt download site I cannot get that program
gvman3670 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I checked for permissions and couldn't find anything saying TESVEdit couldn't be uploaded anywhere besides the Nexus so it should be OK to help you out there. And here's a vid showing how to use it and clean your master files (this alone generally helps get a more stable game).... TES5Edit_3_0_31_EXPERIMENTAL-25859-3-0-31EXP.7z

Well, if you check in the Skykids thread, it says the armor is required. Not sure but you're supposed to run some patcher or something? I'm waiting till the vanilla children are done before using it so my experience with it is limited. You might want to check in the Skykids thread for the installation instructions.

If you read the install directions carefully you'll see that you need to run the patcher that comes with the download. That patcher is what actually generates the necessary .esp file (you can't just download it somewhere). I just installed it a couple days ago to get the vanilla children replaced. That means I installed the [core] skykids base, the [core] armorpack, the [addon] vanilla child replacer and a day or two later installed [addon] child replacer (extra kids). I installed it without a hitch. You just have to follow the instructions to the letter. So just go back and re-re-re-read the instructions very carefully and follow them without deviation. It really isn't too bad.

I managed to clean the thing with the variosu things mentioned I got the armor swapper patcher working, and it seems to load every thing just fine...then..it still crashes after I try to start it up. So I am missing something. Still would love easier directions to get this working...cause so far picking what parts I need to read and what parts I need to download...a sort of hunt is kind of annoying. Ok, I got some progress...I think. Skyrim still crashes but it seems the patcher is looking for the Racecompatibilty esp which..is in the data folder... Again, the person who made the mod mentioned nothing about this, nor what I should do with the unmentioned thing. all in all I did every thing the modder told me to, and...nothing
JerWA Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Are you using a mod manager? Nexus Mod Manager? Wrye Bash? How are you installing mods and managing load order? Are you using the vanilla launcher for the game? Skykids does not require "racecompatibility.esp" and it is not a part of the race compatibility mod we require and link to. Are you also trying to use CoTS or RCoTS?
