RedHeadAngel Posted October 30, 2025 Posted October 30, 2025 Long story short, I can't start the first excavation mission. I have all the requirements for it (display count of 400, completed Avram's stupid quest, and all that), but Marassi won't give me the quest for Windcaller Pass. I ask him, but all he says is either that it's progressing or that he's trying to decide on Windcaller Pass or the other place. I've tried waiting in other places, loading older saves, and even using console commands, but nothing works. The console command (setstage dbm_excavation01 70) just puts the marker at the excavation site, but after waiting a week in-game (waiting 24 hours, going to the location, seeing nothing, then leaving, rinse and repeat), nothing happens. Everything else seems to be working fine (minus the ground still not appearing). There are also no conflicts that I can see. So, I don't know what the deal is.
NymphoElf Posted October 30, 2025 Posted October 30, 2025 I remember getting confused by this quest once or twice as well. My issue was goofing up something I forgot about or wasn't paying attention to. Make sure to read everything in the journal very carefully, and if you're sure you've fulfilled the requirements then just let the quest sit for a bit. LOTD can sometimes be slow to catch up with itself. There should be some guides out there to help you know if you did everything correctly. Since you used a console command, idk if it's recoverable if it's still broken or won't progress.

I just tried waiting 2 weeks in-game, but that did nothing. If I have to start over, I'm going to be unbelievably pissed. I have already put over 14 hours into this playthrough.
nilead Posted October 30, 2025 Posted October 30, 2025 (edited) Cant recall exact nature of of it, but wasnt there another requirement for expeditions for LoTD, beyond having established Explorer Sociery and display count? I might be confusing somthing, but i believe one had to do the dwemer ruins quest in Markarth for the old dwmer-nerd there. Wich would trigger him offering you some LoTD content i dont exactly remember, and allow for expeditions? Honestly, id check LoTD site. Asking on nexus page is a last resort, but your could also try that. Edit: LoTD for all its glory can be quite finnicky. It triggers stuff on display counts. If you display enough stuff for two triggers, it can get messy. Havent really done that in a long while, but at least it used to be a problem. Edited October 30, 2025 by nilead 1
belegost Posted October 30, 2025 Posted October 30, 2025 (edited) Don't you have to build the whole damn guild house first or something? I recall that being one of the many things that pisses me off in LOTD and why I decided that it will never again enter my load order. And if you are before doing whole Windcaller Pass, you have my deepest sympathy. The whole thing is just an annoying busywork, and you will see why as you progress through it. And it's only the first out of many. Also, fuck Avram and fuck you Auryen for not letting me fire his incompetent ass. Edited October 30, 2025 by belegost

The quests are triggered by collection count, depending on your MCM settings. The default is every 50 collection items. Also, if I recall correctly, not every story is directly back-to-back, but maybe I'm wrong. Are you absolutely sure you have all of the requirements to start the quest? 12 minutes ago, RedHeadAngel said: If I have to start over, I'm going to be unbelievably pissed. I have the ES fully established. In fact, I used the AS for it, because if I don't, the quest for the blimp doesn't work. As for what @nilead said, I believe you're talking about the Snow Elf thing for Calcelmo, which triggers at 300 displays, I believe. Either way, I did that. Also, both the Avram and excavation quests trigger at 400, but the latter requires the former to be completed, which it was. 1 hour ago, belegost said: I recall that being one of the many things that pisses me off in LOTD and why I decided that it will never again enter my load order. If I have to start completely over, that's when I'll be pissed. Right now, I'm just annoyed.

One minor inconvenience and you both lose your shit... If the mod's trash then either fix it yourself or shut up. One of you can barely be bothered to turn on your computer while the other only knows how to export body presets. You don't know jack about how anything else works. If the mod's trash then either fix it yourself or shut up. One of you can barely be bothered to turn on your computer while the other only knows how to export body presets. You don't know jack about how anything else works. First, this isn't the only issue I've had with LotD. I've had multiple problems with it. I wanted to try it because so many people said it was good. If the developers of the mod would fix the goddamn problems that have been around for years (like this shit), we wouldn't be here. Second, if you know so much about fixing it, then why don't you share your wealth of knowledge? No? OK then. Third, I've been wanting to learn how to make other mods, but unfortunately, I have a life that requires my attention, like my wedding that's coming up in a couple of months. Therefore, I can't spend all of my time modding this stupid fucking game that I've never really liked. I only mod it because mods actually make the fucking game moderately enjoyable. And if you don't like it, then you can go back to whatever the fuck you do with your life. Edited October 31, 2025 by RedHeadAngel
belegost Posted October 31, 2025 Posted October 31, 2025 (edited) LOTD is fine for exactly one, focused playthrough, where you specifically want to go along with being Auryen's errand boy/girl/Apache helicopter. It hijacks the whole playthrough, and it does not play well with more devious sex mods. May God have mercy on your soul if you have OCD, because you're going to spend IRL days trying to hunt down that one elusive relic that's missing for full collection of whatever. It has a bunch of ANNOYING busywork quests, where you have to clear THE SAME DAMN dungeon several times, because the whole damn thing resets as it progresses. So you do exactly the same shit, fight the same enemies, go through the same locations, only every single time it takes longer and longer to complete. And then there's Avram. Fuck you Avram, you fucking incompetent motherfucker. He gets the whole museum robbed, endangers the life and well-being of very single person working there, makes you have to go through YET ANOTHER LONG, ANNOYING DUNGEON to be able to have access to the place again and can't be killed or even fired because Auyren won't let you do it for some reason, even though he himself was assaulted and knocked unconscious because of this piece of garbage incompetence. LOTD has no replay value, unless you are fine with being a good doggy that likes fetching shit for your master. Edited October 31, 2025 by belegost
