New to Fallout, quick ques:

Recommended Posts

I haven't played a Fallout game before, but I've played a ton of Skyrim. I can see that Fallout 4 has many similar mods, like cbbe and whatnot, but I'm interested in how the more naughty mods compare? I got a fair bit of use out of SexLab and Ostim. I see that Fallout has it's own adult animation mods, are they generally better or worse than Skyrims in terms of versatility, jankiness, all that jazz?

Oh, and if someone has the relevant knowledge, how does New Vegas and Fallout 3's adult modding scenes look? I want to play all three.

I'll speak as someone who has put years of their life into playing Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4. The sex mods for the fallout games are not nearly as good as the ones for Skyrim. Now, don't get me wrong, the Fallout games are still fun as all else.

Fallout 4 is absolutely crippled by it's its geriatric engine. It's engine can barely run the vanilla game with minimal janky-ness. Expect janky-ness to increase as you mod Fallout 4. Now, that isn't to say it isn't worth it but, going back to the sexy stuff, the animations just aren't the greatest. To me at least the biggest difference is that they don't feel as smooth as the ones in skyrim. Also, there are far, far fewer positions and animations in general.

To add to an already complicated matter, you have the Next Gen update to Fallout 4 which shattered much of the modding scene for that game. To get the most out of the sexy side of the modding scene for that game you will probably want to end up downgrading the game to the version right before the Next Gen update. The obvious issue with this is that you will need to work with outdated mods that may or may not be receiving support. It also will mean that you won't have access to the newer mods that are build exclusively for the Next Gen update. However, many of the newer mods I have seen do have versions that support the last version of the game pre-next-gen update.

The modding scene for Fallout 3 and New Vegas appear to near all but dead at this point. The most I really have seen as of late is support for some of the already existing older mods.

Now if you do want to end up playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas then you might want to check out the Tale of Two Wastelands mod. The authors of that mod basically ported the entire Fallout 3 game into the New Vegas game. There is a way you can 'transport' between the two games but I don't want to spoil it. What benefits are there to this? Right off the bat the New Vegas engine was a lot better than the Fallout 3 engine and was much more stable. Probably the second greatest benefit is that it means you would be able to play through Fallout 3 while using mods made for New Vegas. Now some of that can get a bit janky if you're using a New Vegas mod for clothes, armor, and/or guns that require you to acquire them somewhere in the New Vegas world. In that case you would have to play the Fallout 3 campaign until you had the ability to transport to New Vegas where you could get the items and then travel back to Fallout 3 and play out the rest of the game with your new items.

That said, I do believe the sex animations and mods for New Vegas would be compatible with the Tale of Two Wastelands mod as well which means you could have that sexy fun time in the Fallout 3 world where normally you would not.

TLDR: It has been over a decade and a half since I played Fallout 3 probably half that since I have played New Vegas. Some of my information may be a bit out of date. You may simply want to browse the Fallout 3/New Vegas sections of the forums here and sort the listings by 'start date'. That may give you a better idea of how recent some of the mods are or how active the mod scenes are for those games. In the end, the Fallout games really are very fun but if all you're looking for is sexy fun time and loads of mods devoted to that, well..., probably best to stick to Skyrim.

Why this link?

It leads to a mod that demonstrates what's actually possible with the Fallout engine... which the game studio's professional programmers apparently couldn't achieve - but the "amateurs" of the modding scene have managed to do.

Where are the worst frame drops? -> Downtown Boston... which is essentially due to the fact that the graphics are very poorly programmed.

Keyword: Animations:

- a mod author needs tools to be able to create something like this.

- a mod author needs interest in the game and the corresponding motivation to even begin working on it.

- the game must be modifiable to include erotic animations.

And the latter point is a key difference from Skyrim -> in the vanilla Fallout 4 game, there's only one common skeleton for both genders.

So, mod authors had to create a separate "female" skeleton in the first place – along with the corresponding "body" -> "Fusion-girl" aka "fg"

And "fusion-girl" is different from the "cbbe" body... "normal" mod authors create their works (armor, clothing, etc.) for use with the "cbbe" body, and other mod authors then have to convert them to "fg"

All of this ensures – among other reasons – that the "erotic" modding scene is much smaller than Skyrim's!

--

Would I install erotic mods on Fallout NV the first time I play? -> Absolutely NEVER!

The game itself is far too good for that – it's the only Fallout game that has a high replay value for me even without mods.

Skyrim:  More animations, technically better facial expressions, number of adult mods higher than FO4

             Too dependent on Devious Devices

             Better physics & collision implementation

             Better animation alignment control (in-game)

Fallout 4: Mods with much better storylines, immersion

                Less dependent on Devious Devices

               Mods that work well together

               Poor physics & collision implementation

Animation alignment control via XML editing (trial & error)

Additionally to all the well written, but more techinal-focussed posts before, the Fallout series feels more gritty and suitable for kinky mods than Skyrim, if I dare say. Skyrim simply is too clean. I guess it's fair to say that it only became so heavily modded because it had the right combination of available modders, a stable enough engine with looks and sounds - plus the simple fact that modders were able to add more advanced techniques into the game. How would play kinky Skyrim if modders weren't able to add HDT, and SMP later?

In short, if you like the feel of the Fallout universe, you wont miss the Skyrim modding world not as much.
