calranthe Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Hello, I installed all the mods I wanted to use with the game, added all the requirements I believe but I may have missed something. Tried my old games (some used with mods others from as far back as 2011) the problems were all the same Sometimes it would load an area and get stuck on the load screen no freeze music still playing but no further rarely freeze while doing normal things like walking total screen freeze. If it runs no problems everything works from sexlab to frostfall, no problems with sex or animations but if saved 75% of time will not reload that save No CTD's Checked the load order, ran boss, used Tesedit to test loading. Fnis used between mods Assumed it was because of old saves so created a new game. Kalilies Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Did boss show any warning for any dirty edits? In case of freezes I'd recommend to clean your master files (except Skyrim.esm of course) and any dirty mods.
calranthe Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 I cleaned the masters or as much as I could figure out how to and then loaded my save game which CTD as before. (no ctd's while playing make it clear) only a CTD 75% of the time I try to load a save game. Papyrus.01.zip

calranthe Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 Did another Tesedit clean now I understand it better and my game loaded, I also downloaded that file will test it in the morning and if no issues will mark this as solved thank you. One thought before I go to bed and this may seem really niave or clueless, why didn't bethesday clean the masters ? or is it due to patch and development cycles

calranthe Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 I get it now, the dirty edits in the masters do not really affect the vanilla game but with each mod you add it can compound the chance of an issue okay woke up time to give my new game a few tests and my older games.
CGi Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 The dirty edits even affect the vanilla game, the impact is just not this bad.But cleaning the masters gives you a little FPS boost (~5FPS in my case), raise stability and i had the feeling the cleanup even removed some quest stoppers. if you played the game as-is before, try with cleaned masters, the latest USKP + DLC patches (see USKP description) and with Bashed Patch (Wrye Bash) and you'll surely notice the difference.

The advice up to now has made the game more stable I went two hours of mountain travel (frostfall is amazing) then a CTD the only thing I haven't done is a wrye bash patch. Will try that later and if not it is time to try discover if any of my mods are just not happy playing together. Thank you

But there are guides all over the net, regarding the Merged Patch from TES5Edit.

calranthe Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 Okay I believe one or more of my mods are not playing nice, I have gone through Boss + tesedit cleaning + finis+wrybash patch. My load order and mods are above. My new game today with all the above on started fine but after a while I got a crash and then the saves would not load they would just go back to desktop. Now if I load up an old save game from my original play through of skyrim (I did my first full playthrough without any mods) it loads fine and plays fine for a couple of hours then begins to crash and become unstable. Here is a log from my 11 hour long newest play though new character when I try to load the save game it CTD 100% of the time. Something is going wrong but I can not see what it is, bed time for me, if anyone can take a look it would be much appreciated. Papyrus03.zip
cornbreadtm Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 You to need explain the exact locations that it CTDs. We can easily find out what the problem is based on your load order and the situations that you crash. Examples; If you crash entering an interior cell or on an exterior cell load entering a village, it's probably SMIM it takes a lot of memory to run those textures and meshes. Those are two situations that the textures and meshes load all at once. Since you also have Interesting NPCs adding more characters per cell it can get heavy for actual play. People who just turn the game on for screenshots don't have to worry about this. I can tell that you are using a lot of texture packs as is. Skyrim has a 3.1gb thresh hold once you use that much memory you instantly CTD. Hi res texture packs speed up that crash a lot! Also It could be because mods you use are not up to date. You have a few mods with a Zaz dependency and you have this in you load order :ZaZAnimationPackConfig.esp Active. This esp is only found in older versions of Zaz. Mods like WetandCold.esp, dd - enhanced blood main.esp, and Chesko_Frostfall.esp are very script heavy but deadly when all used together with other scripted mods. Normally script lag doesn't hurt anything, but when it gets bad enough that it effects quests you run into problems like CTDs.
calranthe Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 My pc seems to be able to handle the script load fine, I may be wrong but when the game is running it is running with no weirdness. For example yesterdays save game, played for 11 hours from creation till I logged off to cook, first 8 hours were completely stable after doing all the various things like boss, tesedit, fnis and had two crashes as I came down from highrothgar into the little village at the base, did a wryebash patch and that final crash disapeared. At hour 11 I got back to whiterun (loving the no fast travel) entered breezehome after selling everything I needed to, slept and saved, logged off the game. Tried 5 times to reload that game and no go. Something messed up that save and it could be a one shot coincidence after all saves do die sometimes but I think that I am justifiably concerned. I am guessing nothing "alarm bells" is showing up in the papyrus log
cornbreadtm Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I didn't say that your PC couldn't handle it, I said that Skyrim can't. Your PC could be Skynet tech and Skyrim would only be able to handle 3.1gbs of memory before a crash or half the scripts that Oblivion could take. Papyrus isn't a crash log. It wont tell you what your problem is for this. It's normal to be able to play for a long time when you first start a new game. It's when you try to reload that save that your problems pop up. Game kind of looses momentum and has to load up any nonsense that was going on in that save while it was running. Like I said script lag won't cause problems till it gets to be too much to fix. Then you get CTDs.

Removed some steam mods that were loading including ones that are taken care of by the real vision setup. Removed some mods I was not using really.
calranthe Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Okay time to shoot myself in the foot, yeah reason my save games decided not to load was erm well you know when you make a bash patch and it says "this mod and this mod need turning off so I can do my thing" well those esp it turned off were part of the amour redo for cbbe. I never turned them back on so the mod was only partially running, no errors were coming up in boss or anything and thus when it tried to reload boom.
calranthe Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 As far as I can tell my game is kinda healthy now, looks like the patching, cleaning, bashing and streamlining has done a good job, the last issue the saves no longer working was my own damn fault for not checking two esp's were re-ticked.
