FauxFurry Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 Mod data does not rot so anything that does not require a specific version of the executable will always function. that includes supposedly abandoned mods like Sexlab Leveling.
Count Chocula Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 Mods that depend on dlls, and a lot of mods depend on the script extended dll, "break" when a new version of Skyrim is released because many existing dlls (including the script extender) generally do not work with a new version. It doesn't matter if you don't know what a dll is. Mods that just use scripting probably survive a new version (I'm not a mod author so I'm just guessing). Mods that do nothing but alter some aspect of the game's cosmetics are probably gonna be fine with a new version (again, guessing). Perhaps that answer aligns with what you were driving at with your question.
fejeena Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 There are probably over 1,000 modders for Skyrim, and each one decides for themselves whether and when to update their mod. And many mods never require an update (a texture replacer). Some mods are in their final version. Quests are completed, all bugs are fixed. And some mods will never receive an update because the modder is no longer active. But of course they all work... Or maybe not. If a mod has a requirement that has been updated, the mod may no longer work. e.g. Mod-A requires Mod-B version 1.0, but Mod-B is now 2.5, maybe Mod-A doesn't work anymore. On the download page, you can see the version of the mod, when it was uploaded, and when the last change was made.
