Crashes on loading areas

I've tried searching for the answer here, and I've read more threads than I can count, but so far no luck on the answer.


Oblivion crashes when I try to enter certain areas, such as Deepscorn bastion or Crowhaven.


I've tried disabling all mods except for the DLC stuff, game loads fine still but trying to enter those areas is an immediate crash. Newer characters have no issue entering the same areas. I have disabled autosaves. The thing these two areas have in common is I've left 2 slaves waiting in each of them. I've posted my load order here, but I doubt that is the issue because these crashes occur even without mods running. What could be missing?

Earlier saves allow me to enter, but I would prefer not to lose all of my progress on this character. Additionally, this issue will likely come up again, so I'd like to have the ability to just "fix" my most recent saves, and be able to enter the areas.

Slaves you say? What sort of slaves? Actual existing NPC's that have been enslaved, or clones? If they are of a race that comes from a mod, and the race mod is no longer in its original position, they might have lost their race info (missing heads and all other sorts of bad stuff). Also, if they're clones, getting them out of your save might not be possible. If they're NPC's added by a particular mod, disabling that mod might clear them out and make the place accessible.

NPC slaves as part of LoversSlaveTrader.esp


No race info has been changed since I enslaved them and made them wait there. Both of them are standard NPC's, one is a pair of vampires and the other is a bandit and some town guard girl who's name I can't recall. Also, I tried disabling just about every mod I can think of and still no luck.


If rollback is all I can do, oh well not the end of the world!

While making the below changes may not salvage your latest saved game they will aid you for the future. :)


1. If you are using Win7 and have at least 3GB of RAM grab the 4GB memory patch:


2. Grab Streamline and Oblivion Stutter Remover. They will help with memory management and memory purging (both available at the Nexus).

3. When you disabled down to the core mods, did you start oblivion then hit escape and make a new save then exit oblivion, then restart oblivion and load your now "clean" save and then try to go into these areas. If you don't use the clean save method stuff gets hung up in your save games even if the mod is disabled.

4. Try reordering your load order to match the below. Once you finish reordering then leave all the lovers mods disabled and load oblivion and make a new save (to clear your save game) and then enable the lovers mods in their new positions.

Sorry for the late bump, just wanted to say thanks to you two, especially gregathit for the new load order. I made a clean save but the areas with the NPC slaves are still off limits.


I read in the SlaveTrader thread that enslaving respawning NPC's such as bandits and vampires and changing the load number of the SlaveTrader mod would cause these crashes, and I suspect that's what happened.
